Steve Mills Mini-Interview about Madison Square GardenBy InsideHoops.com
Steve Mills is the President of Sports Team Operations of Madison Square Garden. InsideHoops met with Mills, not to conduct a hard-hitting interview but to rave together about how great an arena it is.
InsideHoops.com: Lets talk about Madison Square Garden, the building, why it just feels so great to be here for basketball games.
Steve Mills: It's just a great, great building, with a tremendous amount of history. And people realize it every time they step into the Garden, that it's a special place. And the fans are special, because of the history of the team and the history of the building. And it becomes just a great place to watch basketball.
InsideHoops.com: And the sound system, the color schemes, they've been developed to be just perfect, everything just feels right...
Steve Mills: Well we have a lot of people who work on things like that, but we spend a lot of time working on the sound, the lighting in the building, we just installed a new sound system, and we think actually the lighting is very special in this building, because it's one of the few buildings that you still have, the court is lit, but the arena area is still a little darker than the floor, so it creates sort of an ambiance where the focal point is the players on the court, and we think that's special and unique to the Garden, and also the fact that it's an arena that's in the middle of downtown, the middle of a city, so there are a lot of special things about it, but I think one thing that's consistent about it is, you listen to players who play in the Garden and they know this is a special place and a great place to play.
