HAHA, great piece...Newark Hawk!

No doubt about it... the current roster is filled with players who are overpaid...5.4 mill for a 34 year old 3rd string center? (Jerome James) or 5.2 million for an injury prone backup small forward? (Jared Jeffries) OR... 17 mill for a u guy who spends more time in strip clubs than the practice floor and constantly refers to himself in third person during interviews (marbury). And to exercise some financial conservatism...Isiah decides to take another adventure into 8 digit salary land to land the King Jail Blazer and shell out 12 mill for Zach Randolph...

Sorry J. Will, Houston isn't the end of it, Knicks fans have more to worry about than where allan ends up

Houston DID NOT retire "on his own terms" in '05. He has repeatedly
said so in recent interviews. He actually did the Knicks a $40million
favor by agreeing to "retire". This allowed the Knicks to pass the
rest of his contract on to the insurance company.
Houston, however, paid a significant price for his "retirement". The
terms of the insurance policy forbode Houston from unretiring
without FORFEITING remaining insurance payments. In other
words, had Houston unretired last summer, neither the Knicks or the
insurance company would have owed him the final year's contract
amount. And he obviously wasn't about to recoup that $20million
with a new contract elsewhere.
Had Houston never "retired", he may have begun his comeback
last season with the Knicks, or with some other team had the Knicks
waived him. And it would not have cost him a dime to do so, although
it would have cost the Knicks the extra 40 big ones.
No one's going to cry over the 'sacrifice' that Houston made, but
the same goes for a Knick organization that dug it's own grave by
bidding against themselves and overpaying Houston by about
$50million. Of course, it wasn't the first time the Knicks had paid
way over market for a player (see Ewings' $64million contact at age 34), and certainly not the last time (see current roster)!

mr. williams i think you only wrote this article because you are a knick fan and you'd hate to see allan houston on the hated rival across the river. we all know what houston accomplished as a knick but don't think he owes them anything just because they gave him that huge contract. it is what it is and he is entitled to join a team that is best suited for him.

Go over it. This is a business and the guy should go where he can contribute, enjoy himself and compete for a championship. The Knicks envirornment is a zoo and winning is not realistic.
