Lets say Bynum and the Lakers can't agree on an extension. Next off season, he becomes a RFA.

Hypothetically, what would the Lakers do if the Trailblazers offered $100 million/5 years (which they can do if they renounce Martell webster, and Miles stays off the books)? Portland is the only team with $20 million+ in cap space next summer I believe... perhaps the Lakers simply think no one will out bid them on Bynum's contract?

I thought about this, and if he does well I can't imagine them not matching, but at the same time, Kobe and Bynum alone would combine for about $46 million in cap space.

Why would the Blazers want two starting centers?

Yeah the Blazers are already stacked at center, which made me scratch my head at this question, unless it is simply a matter of getting a potential threat off of one of your divisional foes.:lol

If the Blazers do that only to screw the Lakers, despite screwing themselves in the process... well that would be a heroic, heart warming -and dumb- antiLaker act.

I think the Lakers would gladly match any offer because that'd be considerably less than the max deal Bynum could request from the Lakers.

not that Blazers could offer 20m under the current CBA anyway.

first of all it wont happen. the blazers are gonna need that money for their core.

second, if it did happen, the lakers wont match.

That will be bad for the future of the NBA because Oden is the most hype player since LeBron James, and he's too good to follow in the footsteps of Sam Bowie.
