Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West has signed a multi-year contract with the team, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Now all they need is a big man.

I wonder how much they paid and for how long.

Smart signing. West can be relied on for point duties and plays defense, the two things you need when you take a risk on Williams.

He should get some time at both the 1/2 spots. He played shooting guard at St. Joe with Jameer Nelson, so he has some experience there. I'm glad we got him back. He's a nice outside shooter, has good ball handling skills, and is young and still has room to get even better.

I love this move for the Cavs. NOw they just have to find a big that can score. I know its a risk but right now if I was the GM I'd take a flyer on Z Bo. Maybe see if you can get the Knicks to give him up for trash (ie not Wally his expirer is too valuable, maybe something like Eric Snow's expirer and Sasha Pavlovic).

West's options must have been dwindling. The Cavs got him a fair price
and didn't over pay. Any details?

No thanks. An overweight, overpaid dude who cares more about McDonalds than a ring isn't the key to a championship.

Go big or go home, especially when the time is coming for Bron to decide if he wants to stay in Cleveland or leave. If I was the GM I'd say the risk is worth it if they can keep Varjeo (a perfect compliment for Z Bo to play the 5 beside him), Hickson, and Wally's expiring deal. That way you still have the flexibiliy to try to make another deal to complete the team while having the talent on paper at least to win a title.

And If Randolph doesn't fit in Cleveland, who cares just cut you're losses and buy him out. At least it shows LeBron you're trying.

The guy can't handle being a leader but i could see him working under someones shadow. I doubt that he'd go crazy and pull stupid **** off knowing that someone would get on him. Losing does that to you and he has always been in a position where people expected him to lead.

They could get him for trash, wallace or snow/pavlovic would get it done.

Delonte is a great locker room guy to have. Nice move by the Cavs. They're deep at the 1. I think they still need to find a scorer off the bench

Why did he resign? He would have made much more money if he had chosen to re-sign!

I'd start Delonte at the 2, and have Wally come off the bench. Wally can't play long minutes anymore.

Cavs may have to gamble to be a real contender so it wouldnt surprise me if they snagged him. Problem I see with him is that they would now have 3 guys who need to dominate the ball to be effective. Lebron needs the rock in his hands, along with Mo and Zbo. Defensively, they are not strong with that trio. If this deal does happen, I dont see a happy ending. But they need to something so its possible it happens.

Mo Williams not Macrus..he went to GS

And to answer your question theres a possibility Mo starts at the 1 and West and the 2..

That would be the smallest back court in the east. And it would also be the weakest defensive backcourt in the East. They will have their stints together on the court but to start both would be a disaster.

Delonte is actually a strong defender. I think Mo/Delonte/Bron/Ben/Z is a nice starting 5.

He is not bad, but theres no way he can defend opposing teams shooting guards with consistency and effectiveness. He can guard points but for him to have to defend the Kobe's, T-Macs of the NBA is too much to ask of him

I agree, Delonte can shoot as well as Wally and his defense, scrappiness, passing ability, etc. are all better than Wally.

Hes better than you think, he plays long and is very quick. He contests shots, gets quite a few blocks for a combo guard, and against real big sgs like tmac, Lebron will have to help out at times.

Mo Williams is 6'1"

D West is 6'3" with 6'6" wingspan

they are a little small, but quickness helps and having some capable help shotblockers like Ben Wallace and Lebron can allow them to play tight on the perimeter and harrass some guys.

Im surprised he signed, I was expecting a qualifying offer. Wow, Ferry has had a pretty good offseason, I wonder what he's going to do with Wally's contract this year, and Ben's contract next year.

Excellent move by Danny Ferry, and this will make the Cavaliers a deeper team in the 2008-09 NBA Season. West is a good PG after witnessing him played his best series againts the Wizards last year, and he's actually a versatile defender because he can guard taller SG, and quicker PG because of his longer wingspan.

Just last year we had the worst Frontcourt in the NBA, but now we arguably have the deepest PG rotation in the league.

Mo+West+Boobie

All three contribute in different ways.

I like our chances of Beating the Celtics in the Opening Game of the Season, and West is arguably the Cavaliers 3rd best player in the playoffs, what i like about him is his great Basketball IQ, and Delonte is also a very good rebounder for a 6'3" PG.

So what's his fit on the team now?

PG: Williams/Gibson/West
SG: Szcerebiak/West

Not sure. Maybe move Sasha will be back up to James and whenever Wally and Sasha in Wally will play SF and Sasha SG...not sure who's going to get the minutes here and be placed here.

Yahoo are reporting it as a two year contract with a team option for a third year. Doesn't say how much per though. Sounds like it may be in the range of what J.R. Smith got though.

The Cavs signed guard Delonte West to a three-year deal worth $12.5 million.

The Cavaliers hold a team option on the third year.

Great news. I was afraid we were going to overpay for Boobie and West when I saw guys like Duhon or Udrih sign for the MLE but Ferry really did a nice job :pimp:
