I am really liking the show thus far. Some really deep themes being explored and interesting takes on what had become a stale, recycled topic (vampires).

As for your question, she did throw that chain around dude's neck, but I don't think that necessarily denoted any kind of superpower. As for her throwing the guy... that is what I thought at first, too. After closer inspection, the moment she grabs the guy's leg, he is blind-sided by Bill.

I think she is just telepathic.

is the Bartender the dog???

she has never tried to read his mind, and he is always looking after her. Bill said that some vampires are able to shape-shift. I am thinking that the Bartender is a vampire who changes into that dog when he wants to look out for Sookie...???

also I think there is a picture in his office of a dog protecting a girl...

Yep... I was thinking the same thing. I do think that Sam (the Bartender) is both a vampire and the dog...

He owns a bar and only seems to work at night. When they were in his office discussing her telepathic ability, he said that if she tried to read his mind, 'she might be surprised at what she finds.'

Another thing... in the first episode, Bill orders some synthetic blood at the bar and Sookie tells him that Sam had ordered some, but they didn't get any vampires, so it went bad and Sam got rid of it. I'm thinking that order was for him.

Definitely some intriguing subplots. That bald vampire with the tattoos is one freaky mofo.

I thought I remembered that, too. Wasn't there a bunch of people around at the time and she was getting telepathy from all directions?

Again, though... I think the series is trying to portray all vampires as uniquely different... not all the same. Some can change forms... some can't. Some are evil... some aren't.

Just because she can't read Bill's mind doesn't necessarily mean that this applies to all vampires.

I watched the first two shows...I like the concept....I'm not crazy about the setting in the Deep South setting, but I guess that plays up the fear factor of the vampires......it might easier and cheaper to film in that type of location, a small town setting, as opposed to an L.A. or N.Y.....

The concept is dependent on the location, though. No offense to those living in the rural south, but prejudice, racism, and bigotry is more prevalent down there. The whole tie in with the Civil Rights movement is a key theme. It wouldn't have worked in LA or NYC as powerfully as it does down south.

Also, in the 2nd episode, when she returns to her car after Bill saves her, she says, "Bill is still up" or something like that. And it showed that the light was on in his trailer.

She read the bartender and her best friend mind after she saved the vampire i believe... Something like this "He was saying how she had soft skin and how he cared about her..." Her best friend was saying "they only trying to take care of her then she was saying how her brothers eyes and her eyes were the same...."

I dont think she can read any vampires minds because she would have never put herself in the position she's in going to dudes house...

My wife loves the show... I watched it but I am still waiting to make a judgment. This is the type of show that starts good and get really ridiculous as it progresses....

I actually like True Blood so far. It's a very nice concept show. Sookie actually read The Bartender's mind in the firsr epsiode. I do think he's a vampire but not the pure vampire. He was a human til he got bite by some random vampire, could be a female vampire that had sex with him. Sookie always can read human thought.

I was a big Six Feet Under Fan and I enjoyed American Beauty, so when i heard Alan Ball was doing a vampire show for HBO i was thrilled. My buddy worked on the pilot and he had good things to say.

The dialouge is unbelievably corny/bad- it's like watching Our Town with vampires. Despite this, I still have enjoyed the first two episodes and will give it a watch this season (helps that it follows entourage, another bad dialouge guilty pleasure)

You might be right, but if this was true, why would she have put herself into the position to get jumped by that white trash couple outside of the bar? I don't think she can read minds, long-range. She needs to be close to a person... maybe looking into their eyes or something.

Maybe the bartender isn't a vampire, but there is definitely SOMETHING going on with him and the dog. That painting in his office of the same exact dog standing over the little girl isn't there for no reason... and the dog is always showing up at crucial times.

It's been well done so far, I really don't think they are going to get out-of-control with the plots. Plus, this is the same team that did Six Feet Under (which was an excellent series). I highly doubt they are going to go too crazy.

Also, they are already shooting the second season. If HBO is that certain that this show is going to succeed, I'm thinking it will be solid. They have a pretty good track record.

Remember John from Cincinnati? I actually enjoyed the show (although a lot of it didn't make sense), but it got too ridiculous. They never picked it up for a second season.

I actually agree with you that Bartender might not be vampire because Sookie read his thought. And, The bartender got pissed @ Sookie for go near a vampire that she likes. Vampire can't turn into dog but wolf. His dog might know that bartender likes Sookie and he might told his dog go after Sookie instead himself, etc. I don't know.

I have actually given up on Entourage...

during bad economic times like this it kind of upsets me to see show after show about these kids bitching over millions $$$ and how much amazing women they pull....they are living like kings, while most of us are starting to feel the struggle of the stock market draining our savings and actually careing about gas prices.

Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold is the ONLY thing that makes that show worth a damn IMO...he is awesome...the rest of it is just watching a bunch of dudes that aren't very good actors IMO run around partying thier asses off.

Maybe she had her telepathic powers turned off when she went outside to meet dude....

Here's a reach by me...
I was thinking if their are vampires their are some other supernatural beings there too. Sookie being one and more obvious.

Its possible that the bartender could be a vampire... They each have special abilities and the vamp mentioned their are some with shape shifting abilities. But maybe she can read some vampires minds and others she can't.

The brother powers is his superpeni5! :oldlol:

I am really curious to know if they ever explain how she got those powers it seems the grandmother knows something...

My complaints? The gayness can be a bit overboard. But I give props to the homo cook who OWNED the white dudes. "Bytch u gonna eat wtf i cook *mashes in face*". That whole dyck thing made me uncomfortable. Got damn 2 needles dude? Jason is by far a moron.

And yes I'd bone Tera, Sookie and Dawn (before she was killed).

Question....Vampires have been killin folks or just biting them in this movie. The only time I've seen someone turned into one was ole boy (lead vampire character, name escapes me). So to be turned into a Vampire you must be forced to drink thier blood? Sookie drank dude blood but she aint a Vampire. I'm lost on how one becomes it. And also do the current Vampires want to remain as is meaning no more new recruited or is there a process? Just wondering what is decided to say "I wont kill this one rather make them like us"

Maybe this gets answered as the show goes on because we havent seen anyone turned into a Vampire that was normal just yet. Why would Jason take v again after what he went thru? Oh yeah i said he was a dumbass lol

this may sound gay but I am glad they didn't cast a chick THAT HOT in this show....it would take away from the authentic Louisiana feel they are going for.

I hate it when Hollywood screws over movies by making every actor a damn super model...that isn't real life. (not that this show is, but you know what I mean)

Actually the acting is close to as realistic as it gets. If you have ever been to the bayou nothing on the show aside from the vampires would be out of place. People tend to converse in that manner and the air is humming with sex. It could have something to do with the humidity.

obviously anyone that downs entire bottles of liquer everyday for years and years would go through serious withdraw....but this is a fantasy type show, so I guess I have to let go of anything realistic...

If Tara decides to pay her to cure her problems is her entire "b*tch" type attidude suddenly going to disappear???....that would be really strange, she would be a whole new character.

i think they are getting really close to revealing whatever the hell Sam is...

Bill is a vampire. Sam is the guy that owns the bar. Is anyone buying the 'nudist' angle? That is obviously just a cover. He has some kind of connection with dogs... dude even looks a little like a dog with the shaggy hair and goatee. I doubt that is an accident.

I felt bad for the vampire that Lafayette was exploiting to get his blood... then that nasty b!tch bust in and threw the silver thing over his head. She is going to end up getting killed.

oh I ment Sam...my bad

and at the end of the last episode the police called the only nudist colony there was in texas and they said they never had anyone under sam's last name ever live there...

so it has already been exposed as a lie...

I don't understand why he would lie to one person and act like he had no idea what they were talking about and then tell the police he used to be a nudist and likes to run around in the woods naked...

The last episode actually made want Sam to not die. He finally became interesting. Jason engaging is crackhead type behavior is kinda of funny. Then again not only are they messing up Lafayette's hustle, they may end up killing a nice fellow. That vampire seems like a nice guy, and even though he is a TV character I feel a bit sorry for him; in a Bill from King of the Hill type of way.

I kinda like the vampire blood, v as they call it, as a heroin-type drug. It brings a different angle to the whole vampire myth when people can feed off their blood too.

Agreed...

Sh*t I probably would be on that sh*t as well!!!
But love that lil twist/back story ...great written.

I am more interesting about Sam but I believe he's a werewolf because usually when u become a werewolf during nightime when the moon is full until daytime so you will get a naked.

I really love this show so much. I am little bit confused.....will Sookie became a vampire when Bill bits her neck while they're having sex. After sex she asked him a sereval question about vampire things. I know there are some fangbangers out there but they didn't became a vampire??

I think that is a bit too obvious. It seems to me that the writers want us to think that he is a werewolf. I'm sure we'll get thrown a curveball on that one.

The way I understand it, you have to be completely sucked dry by a vampire, on the verge of death, and then be brought back when that same vampire feeds you their blood.

Basically, you can't become a vampire on accident or simply from being bitten or from drinking vampire blood. It has to be a conscious decision made by the vampire.

I see what you're saying and it does all make sense. For some reason, I think Sam and his dog gotta do with Sookie's Grandma dead because his dog were there and hid in the bush near by her house. Sam doesnt like vampire and he really like Sookie and he usually get jealous when Sookie talks about Bill or hang out with Bill.

It doesn't look good considering Lafyette has been in that car for a full day. He's one of the best characters so I think he'll be back. Stranger things have happened.

What about the chick that Tara is staying with? I forget her name. What was she doing in the back yard shaking and shit? And how does she know Sam?

Who killed Lafayette tho. They made it seem like Bill did because after Lafayette was attacked they flash to Bill going to Sookie house and saying he just fed. But Bill doesnt get down like that. So was it the female vampire Bill is responsible for or was it something else (heard the growl)? I dunno. Doesnt look good for Lafayette because if he was going to be turned. They wouldnt have left him in the car.

I wonder what Terra ends up...shape shifter or something else? That white chick was doing some weird shyt...why was the hog there?

I don't think Lafeyette was in the car. The leg did not seem dark enough, and killing him off would drop the politician storyline that they are developing. The dead person is probably someone else entirely.

I think the chick that Tara lives with Astral projects and possesses sleeping people.

They showed his foot with toenail polish. The show last week showed Lafayette painting his toenails while at the bar watching that politician pull a fast one. Why would they show us the foot/toenails painted of some random black person? Not many blacks are on the show to begin with.

What a stupid way to end a season....

It is a bit. The cliffhanger endings every week are tiring enough. And now we get some bible thumper stereotype next season, I know all of the characters are pretty strong stereotypes, but at least they aren't ones we've seen over and over. What was up with Sam busting out beaucoup bucks?

I'm betting that Maryanne killed Lafayette, what does everyone else think? She's got something on Sam so maybe she did it to send him a message. I think Sam was in serious debt, which he owes Maryann. Look at Maryann got fine ass car, nice house, pool, etc. Sam got own business but ****ty trailer park. Now, he's willing to give away his business to Lafayette. Bill wouldn't do that to Lafayette, because he doesn't believe to kill innocent people & Lafayett would be different reaction to see Bill.

I have a question... the housekeeper guy at Maryann's took Tara's cellphone, how did Tara hear about Sookie's attack? Did I miss something?

Lafayette is not on the wiki pages list of deceased characters. So there is still hope that they did not kill off the coolest rainbow on television.

I don't think it was Lafayette either...at least I hope not...he is one of the best characters on the show...(no homo)

when does season 2 start???

It starts again sometime in June. The wait would be unbearable if Rescue Me was not about to start up again.

yea they have changed the story already though. In the books Tara isn't black and wasn't even a major character, nor did she have a thing with Sam. And that whole Jason with the V addiction was made up.

I've seen a lot of stuff online about people really liking Lafayette, him being their favorite character and all. Maybe the writers saw it and rewrote him back into the show. Course all the episodes were probably already filmed.
