Beno Udrih (born July 5, 1982 in Celje, SR Slovenia, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian professional basketball player for the NBA's Sacramento Kings. He re-signed a five-year contract with the team in July 2008.

A spin move where? In the post? Or do you mean a dribble spin move? If it's the latter, that's crazy, since I can't imagine Kobe getting shook that badly by someone like Udrih on that sort of move. We need video stat! :D

Beno used that spin move last year too. He's pretty underrated, and can get to the hoop and hit the J. I am looking forward to watching him if he can stay healthy. As for Kobe, everybody gets shook. Clear as day, he steps on Kobe's ankle and bends it. Not even something as small as stepping on his shoe. Dude steps on his ankle. That isn't getting "dropped" by any means. On further inspection, this was not some great play by some unknown shmuck named Udrih "dropping" Kobe Bryant in the spin cycle.

Anyone who thinks this is Kobe Bryant getting shook is out of their mind, and really doesn't know what they're talking about. Kobe is in pain visibly falling before the guy even finishes the move because he's PIVOTING on KOBE'S RIGHT ANKLE for christ sakes. That is far from getting crossed up, or hung out to dry on a spin move.

I see that now that I look at it closely and watch Kobe's right foot/ankle. Udrih appears to brush it as Kobe starts to slide it (when Udrih initiates the spin), and it may have prevented Kobe from sliding it over quickly enough to regain his center of balance. Still not sure if that would have been enough to prevent the fall, however, since Kobe's center of gravity there is more over his left foot, which was planted and stationary as he fell; him sliding his left foot in further more quickly wouldn't have necessary resulted in him being centered balance-wise. I see the part you're talking about, though.

In other words, I think he would have fallen or fell backwards regardless. Kobe would have had to plant his left foot (which was unaffected) further than he did in order to chance his center of gravity appreciably. He planted it too close because he expected to chest up for a second, and then Udrih spun off too quickly, removing the leverage Kobe expected from the contact.

This thread is a Kobe hating circle jerk. With people saying hypotheticals that he would have fell regardless. He falls because the guy pivots on his spin move on Kobe's high ankle.

The move wasn't some nice piece of ball handling, or lethally effective or quick. This is a huge myth. Kobe didn't fall from a move. His ankle got planted on. Not "brushed" ... LOL ...

You want to know what getting shook is from a basketball perspective. You know a move where you're not STEPPING and PIVOTING on someone's ankle. These are real ankle breakers.

Bro ... with that replay I could tell right away he didn't get shook. You can see in the way he falls immedietely, if you play basketball and/or know what you're talking about, that he didn't get shook. The manner in which he fell, the expression of pain on his face before he even hits the ground. It was obvious. I mean, beyond the fact that none of the other supposed basketball fans in this thread can see this kid clearly stepping on Kobe's high ankle.

Anyone who consider that getting dropped either doesn't know what they're talking about, or hates Kobe Bryant.

It literally is that ****ing simple.

I've seen Kobe get shook before. Iverson put a nasty behind the back crossover on him back in 1999 in Philly. But this is not Kobe Bryant getting dropped. Hell, Kobe didn't even get crossed. He was all over that guy like a cheap shot with some very good defense.

But beyond all that ... IDK why anyone would get in an up roar if it was a legit move that made him fall. Players, great players get dropped all the time. It happens. It's the nature of the business. You will get shook on some occassion. The great defenders however can shrug it off, and not lose confidence. If you're willing to get dirty and play good defense, you are gonna get shook sometime. Ask Jordan, ask Dumars, ask anyone ... samething with getting dunked on.

I mean Deron Williams shakes alot of people, and is a very good defender. But Jamal Crawford obliterated dude's ankles on a crossover behind the back, turned into a hop step earlier in the year. Fact is ... it happens. This thread was just like a bee hive of activity for people waiting to get on Kobe Bryant for something. As if it makes him less of a ball player. But the truth of the matter is nothing happened. Someone stepped on his ankle on a very ordinary spin move. Big ... ****ING .. deal.

Really? Then you clearly wouldn't know what you're talking about. Kobe doesn't fall in the manner he did if the guy doesn't have his pivot foot planted on Kobe Bryant's ankle. Why? Here's why. See I'm gonna disagree and tell you why you're wrong. The way the guy is spinning, and stepping on Kobe's ankle on the foot Kobe's needs to go the new direction Udrich is going. But he can't cause guy has his weight on Kobe's ankle. This isn't the move dropping Kobe. It's Kobe's inability to move his foot. Jesus, I shouldn't have to explain this ...

Well if you want to get technical on that again.

In the first video Ben pushes off Wade, and I think when watching that game ages ago, he stepped on his foot.

On the second one, Wade gives Snow a nudge. Did you see how far he slid?

Third one. No contact, just made the guy fall.

So essentially, there is always going to be a bit of contact, though it was a great piece of dribbling and ball handling, and it was an ankle breaker.

Dude, I play ball, and I'm pretty sure that my previous analysis holds weight. Kobe would have had to move his left foot further over (creating a wider stance) to avoid falling, and the fact that he planted the left foot too closely, expecting to straighten up for a second and anticipating some contact, is what caused his center of gravity to become disturbed.

What I will say is that perhaps if his right foot/ankle wasn't touched, he may have had time to take a second quick step with his left foot in order to widen his stance and not lose his balance. Perhaps. Or maybe he would have opened up with the right foot quickly enough to counter his own backwards momentum. Hard to say.

None of those were as bad as stepping on someone's ankle while making a move. Ben Gordon didn't even come close to touching Wade on that play. Not even close. Wade didn't push Snow. That's why it was so bad. He had done it to Raja Bell before as well. Don't you think if someone slid that far and there was contact it would've been an offensive foul? It wasn't for a reason. Iverson didn't touch Daniels. And Gordon didn't touch Wade.

No contact here

And nothing as ridiculous as pivoting on a guy's foot / ankle as an excuse for making someone "fall"

Big difference.

Kobe didn't fall because of a move. His lead foot to change direction with the defender got stepped on. If you watch the replay he's not getting shook. He's with the dude the entire time. Including the transition to the spin move in the opposite direction, but he can't keep moving with the offensive player cause he can't move thanks to a finely planted foot on his ankle.

It's not rocket sceince.

I'm pretty sure you do play ball. Bet alot of others here don't. Or aren't particularly good. But the other part to the equation was I said if you think that's Kobe getting dropped by a move, youy either don't know or play ball, or you're a Kobe hater. And you Loki, my son, are a Kobe hating nut job of a clown. When watching the replay it is clear he is shifting with Udrich, even in the transitional spin move. But he can't keep moving because the foot Kobe needs to switch direction is being stepped on. That isn't getting dropped by a move. In fact he'd clearly with the kid the whole time. And hypotheticals are for nadda. You are clearly looking for a reason to validate Kobe falling. I'm seeing it as it is. He fell because the offensive player plants his pivot foot on Kobe's ankle keeping it on the ground, when Kobe needs it to change direction with him. And it's obvious from the rest of Kobe's body mannerisms and focus, he is with the guy even as he begins spinning in the opposite direction. This move didn't make Kobe fall. A move has to be clean to be considered as shaking someone.

The more I look at it, I think you're right. Initially I said he was gonna fall anyway because I assumed he was trying to chest up, expecting contact, and then when Udrih spun off and there was no contact he lost his center of gravity. Now I see that he was likely trying to open up with his right foot in response to the spin (rather than slide it sideways to establish a balanced stance) and since he couldn't his balance was thrown off.

You can see him opening up with that foot, in an effort to go with him. At the very least the guy may have gotten free of Kobe alittle with the spin move, but there isn't a chance in hell it'd make him fall like that. You can see the hesitation in the fall cause bye the guy's foot on his ankle, making it obvious Kobe wants to and can stay with him but is prohibited by Udrich's pivot foot on his ankle. And Kobe's attention and upper body shows he's opening up to follow Udrich in his spin move to the left.

BTW, where do you hoop at Loki?

It's cool, bro. Just had to debunk this myth. Kobe did not fall at all from a legit basketball move. He fell. But it wasn't from some great move or something. Meaning there is nothing to be emberassed about here if you're Kobe Bryant, or one of his fans. And also meaning, Kobe haters, there is nothing to cheer here either. The guy didn't do anything basketball wise to "wow" and make a great defender in Kobe Bryant fall from a piece of ball handling.

Just local places in Brooklyn the last few years. I really don't play as much anymore with work and everything. My friends and I will venture into the city (West 4th in the Summers) or downtown Brooklyn once in a while. I played in some Summer leagues and rec leagues when I was 19-25 (Jersey shore, some NYC leagues) but those days have passed me by. I'm 30 now. :D

I still have my athleticism, though, thankfully. :D

There are some good games if you know where to go and when to go, but basketball for me the last couple of years is more about the socialization than the competition. It's good to ball with the guys I grew up with and played with who I don't get to see much anymore.

The general level of comp I play with overall is not as good as what I used to play with in leagues, though, which featured D1/semi-pro level players. I used to play ~4 hours every school day and ~8 hours every day in the Summer (I'm sure I'm not the only one who had that sort of playing schedule. :D); now I play about once each week (if that) for 3-5 hours at a time.

EDIT: Yeah, born and raised in Bklyn.
