Post the country songs that take you back to the days when you'd sit in the backseat of the car on the way to your soccer game as a little kid and listen to the country tunes your father would play as you cruise up the road on a crisp spring morning each weekend.

Doug Stone - Better Off In A Pinebox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MR2TESUEWc)
Randy Travis - Forever and Ever Amen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-R94Yxumw)

Love that "Live Like You Were Dying" joint.

I think country iz more of an acquired taste and az an Urban internet ghetto superstar it'z against my nature to enjoy it.

Some Keith Askinz or Garth Brookz joints are nice to listen to once in a while.

Thanks for the thread starface!

I heard all these songs when I was younger and I'm sorry that I did. One thing about writing a country song... You don't have to be the slightest bit smart to write one. Yes. as a young one my family listened to all this same 80's/early 90's bullsh!t.

If you love uncreative cliche songs, Country music is for you.

I LOVE the Dixie Chicks!!! I have all of their CD's! I also have a nice country collection: George Jones, Patsy Cline (the greatest female country singer of all times!), Hank Williams, Sr., Charlie Rich, Lefty Frizzell and Merle Haggerd.

I also think that George Jones is the finest (meaning best not how he looks)country singer ever! Listen to "Why, Baby, Why?", "White Lightning", "Who Shot Sam" and his whole Grand Tour album!

I also like the new generation of country singers: Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, etc. Country music is not really that bad. I mean if it's good (even great) music, I'll listen to it!

Oh, yeah...Ray Charles even sang country and he's R&B

Well, I'll try to steer them away from boring sentimental 'artist" that often play down to the low brow crowd.

One thing about country though... You got to love how they got that twang in there about 85-90% of the time just to let the fans know that it's country music.

Well, I could care less if you like Jackson Browne or not. No, not everything I like is high brow, but not as generic as some of that country fluff which is not really much better than stuff that people like Beyonce puts out. A Carrie Underwood is not much if any better than Beyonce. Pop fluff.

really? That kid makes me want to abort the entire southeast.

As for the thread, I love a lot of country, but dislike most of what has been posted in here (outside of the LJJ stuff). Not a fan of the saccharine nashville **** from the 80s on (there are some good songs and artists, but overall its pretty ****ty). I do like some randy travis, ricky skaggs stuff, but overall that **** on the radio is terrible.

How about some George Jones, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe? For the record, folk music (like the norman blake posted by LJJ) and bluegrass are far superior to radio friendly country. Mayhaps Ill post some really good country music later today when I have a second.

Gonna see Robert Earl Keen Jr. this weekend.

just wondering. you know, like how they tried to sue the seahawks for infringing on the 12th man about 2 decades after they adopted it (and right before the superbowl). TAMU has a VP of branding, and they are very particular.

The music scene back then sounds like it was stronger than right now (though its trying).

Exactly why we did it. It's close to campus and it's close to the bars where we don't have to drive. You'll always have the girls that b!tch about it being too far though.

I can't believe the MSC is closing though. I'm really going to miss it but I think it was the right decision to renovate it. And how bout Murano resigning...that's crazy. Apparently she scored low on her regents...of course people will stay say it's because she's hispanic.

the only people I have heard (in the eagle, in conversation) bring up her ethnicity are people making a ignorant statement like the one you made. You sound like starface with your blatant and silly generalizations.

There was obviously friction between her and the chancellor of the system over some aspects of the direction she was taking the university. I didnt really see her do anything that positive or that negative, but Im in a bubble.

apparently, her review by the chancellor was acquired by the eagle under the FOI act and many people in both industry and academia have said it was inappropriate. I havent read it. but many people think this was as much a politically motivated move as much as anything else. Thats what happens when you have a political appointee in charge of a large educational system IMO.

Itll be interesting to see how it all works out.

I honestly havent been in the MSC in about 4 years. I do occasionally walk by it.

Ill keep you updated if I hear any good aggie dirt while you are in Cali.

It's not really ignorant. I don't believe it's b/c of her ethnicity but the rest of my family believes she is judged more harshly due to her being hispanic. It's not really ignorant or a generalization. There are people that think this and I believe people will still think it. That's all I meant with that statement.

You should just admit the fact that you're too big of a ***** to call a spade a spade if it makes someone in the room uncomfortable

You wont acknowledge reality if it means a toe gets stepped on. Thats the bottom line with you. You insist on living in a fantasy world where NOTHING is ever based on race, gender, religion, sexuality, or partisan preference....well that is unless of course its a WASP controlling his big evil corporation to curbstomp all the little guys into crushing poverty. Then of course you'll cry racism, semitism, sexism, bigotry, etc. etc.

But otherwise? You'd just as soon appease any group that may start crying if you call them out. That's why you're an aging, unrespected nobody with nothing meaningful to say, besides predictable talking points that you share in lockstep with EVERYONE on your side so you can all think you're intellectuals.

See, notice how I acknowledge what is TRUE, regardless of how you may feel about it. Take a lesson.

It's not really ignorant. I don't believe it's b/c of her ethnicity but the rest of my family believes she is judged more harshly due to her being hispanic. It's not really ignorant or a generalization. There are people that think this and I believe people will still think it. That's all I meant with that statement.
check out the comments on the eagles story from monday. The only people bringing in her ethnicity are total starface types, saying "of course all you liberals are gonna cry wolf cause a mexican lady lost her job" when in actuality, the people decrying the situation say nothing about her ethnicity or gender but focus on the actual issues at hand and the tension between her and the chancellor. its a smokescreen tactic.

so, what are you talking about? Do you even know who Else Murano is? Of course not, otherwise your post would make a lot more sense.

Im not saying she was forced out because shes hispanic or a woman and the only people making that argument are typical redneck poor white men saying "the only reason this is in the news is because shes a mexican woman!" when in reality its a big deal for the school regardless of her ethnicity.

So a bunch of white men force a hispanic woman to resign and Im saying that its not due to ethnicity. Yet me stating that is somehow PC, intellectual wannabe talking points? You are a trip

As usual, you go on some tangential tirade grounded in your skewed hate-based worldview without even knowing or addressing the issue at hand.

cultured means being attune to multiple cultures and feeling comfortable discussing and experiencing them.

the only exception is gay **** like FUNERAL DOOM and "stoner metal" and all that crap that only some misfit dweeb living in canada and trying to convince people on the internet about his fabricated friends and drug problems would listen to.

So you agree that being cultured means listening to music by uncultured rednecks? Is that what Rush told you?

sure you have. Keep telling yourself that. Your "argument" always comes down to the exact same groundless spew of insults and stereotypes.
Lets see if I can do it.

Liberals are gutless and want to destroy american values.
You are all sheep who can only puppet the media.
All you do is vilify rich white men.
Or, my favorite, since it seems you reserve it for me....
You are just a wannabe intellectual who tries to like obscure stuff just to be different.

The best part is that your arguments always come down to you insulting the other poster.
which is hilarious, cause you introduced yourself to ISH by saying your dad was richer than ours, that you had the best bod (on a forum full of guys with a pic to back it up). It then turns out that you had to drop out of what is widely regarded as one of the easiest schools in the country, made 12k last year and live off your daddy as a 24 year old boy.
Yet you consistently insult other people's worth to our society, their intelligence, etc. What have you done besides have an emotionally miserable life filled with meaningless material **** your daddy bought you?

Modern country is about on par with everything else mainstream now. I've even heard that they play Miley Cyrus on the country stations. Older country... Well, somebody like George Strait made a career out of playing the same basic song over and over again.

One trick pony "artist" that writes one sentimental cliche song after another.

No, I mean I've seen it on Family Guy too and it's just another example of Seth MacFarlane's pathetically brainless "humor." There was one the other day where he played the entire f'ing song. Four or five minutes, probably because he couldn't think up anything to go there. It's retarded.

And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio on
Adios and vaya con dios
A long way from GA
Yeah, and all the muchachas -- they call me "big poppa" when I throw pesos their way
Adios and vaya con dios
