10/29: 12 points (5-12), 12 rebounds and 2 blocks in a 71-82 loss against the Rockets.
27 points (9-11), 16 rebounds and 3 blocks in a 90-79 win over the Warriors.

This, best rookie bigman so far. Don't bring up Beasley he's hardly a bigman can't even rebound or play defense.

Since there is no specific criteria in getting on this list, I'll nominate JJ Hickson for his performance tonight against OK City. His numbers aren't as good as the others on this list, but I really like what I see out of this kid. He has real potential.

Hickson - 14 points (6-12 shooting), 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 assist

EDIT: Sorry... didn't see the criteria list at the bottom of the first post upon my initial viewing. Still... 4 blocks is pretty good for the rook.

George Hill stepping up big time. I thought the Spurs lost their minds when they drafted him.

alot of spurs fans were wondering also why we drafted him but you just gotta have faith in one of the top front offices in the league.

this kid is really good at penetrating and drawing fouls but what stands out most is his defense. that will keep his playing time up

treat this like how the NBA treats MVP voting there is no system

just do the eye test

like i didnt even watch the game but i know that 3-10 fg from a 7ft man that goes 10pts 10 rebs in not very impressive 15pts and 10 rebs is for a rookie big man 10pts and 13rebs thats impressive 10pts 10 rebs not impressive under no circumstance unless its a guard

i would say he doesnt perform well because the last 4 wins not counting to night he scored 14pts ( played ok) then 18pts 3x shooting over 50% from the field i just think when memphis wins everybody does play well so oj doesnt have to do as much

but tonight he made Wade look like a rookie dropping 28pts cant wait to c the highlights tonight on nba tv such a good game nice win

Anyone think getting 15 rebounds despite getting under 10 points warrants a big game performance? (Same goes for 15 assists)

grinder i hate not to talk about rookies in this thread

but what the heat organization is doing to wade is pure madness, its like wade the only person on the team he has to have an A game just so they can win a B game so they can stay in a game anything less is a loss

im no GM but i should be but dont you think they should get rid of Shawn Marion ASAP, he is averaging 12pts and 8rebs and contributing to nothing IMO
but most importantly retarding the development of beasley if Shawn Marion gets traded for even a C+ legit 7ft center and expiring contracts. I think beasley can become that consistent second option that wade desperately needs.

Think about it about 90% of ppl thought Rose was going to have a mediocre rookie campaign, if hinrich didnt go down he probably would have with hinrich injured i think that actually helped rose showcase what he can do

and oj going to memphis really helped mayo

can you think oj foye mccants brewer telfair etc etc all on the team that would have seriously delayed oj progression

Yeah, I can't stand the way Spoelstra pretty much relies on Wade having a monster night to get the win. Anything less than 30 points from D-Wade and the Heat are going to lose is quickly becoming the book on them.

Marion has been a shadow of himself and doesn't fit the system, I agree that they need to ship him out for a decent center, preferably a good defensive big. I think the Heat need to try to find a way to get Chris Kaman and if they can't do that, get ahold of someone like Josh Boone to hold the fort down at the 4 and try to sign Boozer in the offseason with Marion's contract out of the way.

It'd be:
Chalmers/Quinn/Livingston
Wade/Cook/Banks
Beasley/Jones/Wright
Boozer/Haslem/Diawara (more of a 3)
Boone/Anthony/Blount

With OJ - going to Memphis was really the perfect situation for him. If he was in Minnesota, he'd be told to get the ball into the post for Big Al as much as possible and probably get 3-4 fewer FGA/game. I still think the deal isn't as lopsided as it looks because Love could end up being an all star in the future and have a big impact on a winning team. Maybe not a scoring machine like Mayo, but an important starter on a playoff team.

You think Mayo can effectively play the point? If he can do that, the Grizzlies got a ton of options with the draft, they could go for guys like James Harden (doubt he'll fall to them) and DeRozan (realistic).

DeRozan stock is fallng fast but Derozan that would be nice I also crossing my figures that memphis if they dont make the playoffs can pull a bull and get a top 3 pick

We desperately need Rubio Rubio is the key, Stephen Curry would be nice also.

Ricky apparently told Brandon Jennings that he probably won't declare until 2010 so it looks like teams are going to have to wait 2 years before they get the Spanish sensation.

Steph Curry's stock is going up ridiculously and teams are going to be disappointed when he gets to the NBA level. I do think Steph will be a good player but not a 20 ppg scorer. If the Grizz can't get a point guard, I would go with either Gani Lawal/Greg Monroe/Jordan Hill or Tyler Hansbrough, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these guys.

Mayo has been the best now.
How is this? The only people I've seen vote for Mayo are Lakers homers.

Didn't you notice Rose beating Mayo in the actual poll for Rookie of the Year? In case you didn't, here is the thread:

Rose wins the ISH Rookie of the Year poll (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114702)

Rose has better overall numbers, a much better record despite having much worse teammates, is a better athlete who makes more plays that deserve to be in SportsCenter's top 10, and has come through in the clutch more often than Mayo has.

Derrick Rose is the only player who deserves to win ROY. Nobody else has been good enough to even deserve one vote.

As much as I'd love to add him, he's missing the criteria just by a few points every time mostly due to the relatively low amount of playing time compared to his rookie counterparts. Hopefully Lee can break the 20 point barrier soon, he seems like a heck of a defender from what I've seen as well.

Roy Hibbert and Kosta Koufos keep narrowly missing making the list falling just a shot or rebound short on a few occasions.

Just added big nights from Lopez and Gordon.

Damn this is going to be one of the strongest draft classes in years or maybe in history! So many rookies making an immediate impact wow!:applause:

It is going to be the GOAT draft. A lot of people don't want to admit it saying 2003> 2008. The 2003 Draft just doesn't have the depth this draft does.

I don't have time, but if you pull out 2003 rookie numbers and 2008 rookie numbers.

2008 rookie numbers sh!ts on 2003 10/10 times

2008 has 11 players averaging double figures already. There are still players that need to develope like Jason Thompson, Danilio Gallarni, Jerryd Bayless, DJ Augustine, Rudy Fernandez.

OJ Mayo and Eric Gordon have already shown the ability to average 26+ppg many times in their career.

Derrick Rose has shown the ability to be a 20pt and 10 assist guy in his career.

I can't wait to see all these guys in their prime.

ROY race heating up between Rose, Mayo, Westbrook, Brook Lopez and arguably Love and Eric Gordon as well.
:oldlol: Westbrook over Gordon. WTF? Are you high?

uh no, Rose pulls ahead of Mayo even further with an outstanding fourth quarter in a WIN last night vs Washington on the road. It's Rose's to lose at this point.

Even as a OJ fan, I agree.

With the Bulls making the playoffs, he is probably the most deserving.

Rose is injured and is out for tonight's game, with a bruised wrist. x-ray were negative. His next game is thursday, he doesn't want to miss back to back games, especially in a close ROY race, Mayo looks like he might be out his funk with 12 games left for him to make his case.

Rose is a lock to win ROY. I don't even think there is any debate.

Updated.

Big games from Thompson, Rush (x2), Rose, Love, Westbrook, and Randolph once again highlight just how incredibly deep this rookie class is.

Rose and Mayo are once again in a tie in the big game count and it looks like Rose will inevitably come away with it since the Bulls will have at least 4 more games than the Grizzlies (playoffs).
