An interesting matchup just for fun. Basketball is a game dominated by giants, but it seems short people can pack a punch too. Just look at these lineups. Feel free to inform me if you can think of a better taller/shorter player in the lineup( I go by height, not skills ). Assuming that all players are in their prime.

Tallest

C Manute Bol 7'7 tallest player in NBA ever

PF Pau Gasol 7'0 a legit 7'0 PF i can think of, since most 7 footers are instantly converted to centers.

SF Dirk Nowitzki 7'0 apparently a very unique player who is 7 feet and can shoot the 3. Once played SF.

SG Kevin Durant 6'9 I know he's a rookie. But hes the tallest player to play SG( I think ), plays SF too.

PG Magic Johnson 6'9 Tallest PG and the best to play at that position.

Shortest

C Ben Wallace 6'9 Somesay he's only 6'7 barefoot. But theres no denying his defensive prowess and muscular definition.

PF Charles Barkley 6'6 Regarded by some as the best PF.

SF Elgin Baylor 6'5 One of the best old school SF.

SG Allen Iverson 6'0 best little man scorer.

PG Muggsy Bogues 5'3 pesky defender and very quick.

I take the tall team in a heartbeat. But the short team are suprisingly good too. If the short team can look to fastbreak on every opportunity, and considering Iverson's scoring rep during his prime. They might take the game.

What do you think?

Edit: For shortest team, Wes Unseld 6'7 slipped from my mind. But he can also be another candidate for the center position and would provide offense that ben wallace lacks.

A few changes I'd make.

On the All Big team, Ralph Sampson at 7'4" played power forward for the Rockets during his best years.

On the All Small team, Wes Unseld at 6'7" (and in the Hall of Fame), should probably be center (if you're looking for the legitimately best and smallest player at each position).

tallest would definitely take it. Not doubting Iverson and Baylor, but a team with Magic, Gasol, Dirk and Durant would be nasty.

Didn't KG play a bunch of PG in Minny during one year of the playoffs?

The tall team is not only bigger, but composed of much more talented players. You have the GOAT PG on it...matched up against mugsy bogues. You then have three of the most offensively talented players in the league currently at the 4-3-2. It would be a massacare.

the small team got some elite players, even at mvp level, but overall, when the whole team is that small, it's no contest. the big team got some quality players too. magic at point? that's already not fair. then you got scoring in dirk and others. and on defensive end, manute bol's swatting every layup to afghanistan.

Could you imagine magic posting up mugsy??
Iverson trying to guard Durant's jumpshot??
Even baylor trying to guard Dirk's jumpshot....

Probably the tall team would win, just by posting up their opponents. Shorties' speed won't always be enough to escape from their tall opponents. They'll have to escape from their outstretched hands, as well...

A few changes should be done at the roster, though:

1) Move Calvin Murphy to shortest SG. The man was a scorer, not a passer. And he was 5'9.
2) Although SF's have the closest size range, Elgin Baylor was certainly not the shortest SF ever (whenever he played at the position we know as SF). He was a normal 6'5 barefoot, close to 6'7 with shoes on. Don Kojis, Frank Ramsey and Ricky Pierce were all 1-2 inches shorter.
3) Unseld was a bit shorter than Big Ben.
4) Due to his game, I think Manute Bol could also play the PF. I even think he's played there for very short stints. Barkley may also have played as a C for a short while. After all, Muresan was a few millimetres taller. I remember international media having Bol at 231 cm and Muresan at 232 cm. If not Bol, you can definitely put Ralph Sampson at PF.

3) Unseld was a bit shorter than Big Ben.

(BTW, I thought centers back in the 60's were per average 6'5 and forwards 6'2. Why doesn't the original list include any of them? :lol ).
