Sanitarium would be number too if I have to choose. Great chorus.

There is no weakness to that song. The opening. The melody. The vocals. The chorus. The guitar work to end the song.

Yeah that's true. I love those opening guitar harmonics even. The melody might be the highlight though, but you're right everything in the song is flawless. The solos fit very well.

I don't consider all those songs to be slow paced or soft really, some of them are, but Sad But True which is probably my favorite on that list is pretty loud and blunt.

"DO MY DIRTY WORK, SCAPEGOAT!"

the power chords are pretty intense on it right from the beginning. i wouldnt really group it with Fade to Black and such.

this version of FWtBT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPT88R0mjwU) pumps me up also

but as far as the actual slow/soft songs, i'd prob. agree with Sanitarium ftw. i'd have to listen to them all in succession tho to say for sure.

I was iffy on some. Same with Harvester of Sorrow. I mean relative to thrash era Metallica though. Maybe trudging is a better word.

yeah i figured thats what you meant, even the "harder" songs that i mentioned would look slower in tempo if you actually wrote them out on a sheet of music compared to Creeping or Master etc

at least i would assume, i've never actually written anything on a sheet of music :confusedshrug:

3. Fade to Black
4. The Unforgiven
And then the rest, don't really like those songs as much

Oh, you mean those clueless idiots? I don't worry about them.

Quick, how many Liberals does it take to change a lightbulb??

A: It takes ten, nine to deny that darkness exists and one to hire a Republican to change it.

What's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and James Carville???

A: One has a radio show and is the most listened to in America, the other is just a bald loud-mouthed liberal loser.

:lol

The second half of One is as hard or harder than any Metallica song ever written. In fact, all of the songs listed end up turning into aggressive Metallica... certainly not ballad-like softness.

The closest thing to 'soft' that Metallica has in its resume is probably Hero of the Day. :confusedshrug:

Can't really call any of those songs soft. I was expecting you to bought up some bullsh*t like "mama said" or something.

Orion?

i seen hippos
02-25-2009, 01:14 PM
People just need to accept that when I said "soft" I didn't actually mean soft. That's why I used quotations. And I didn't choose any instrumentals so Orion doesn't count.

And anyone who knows my taste in metal already knows I think Megadeth >>>>>>>>>>>>> Metallica.

I had decided upon Sanitarium before even opening the thread and didn't really look at all the choices either, because Sanitarium = good.

Although I've always had a soft spot for Fade To Black also.

And, while we're on the topic of slower paced/softer songs, here's by far one of the GOATS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WmlfqH3Sq4 - Although I never remember the video having parts of Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight in it. :confusedshrug:

I listened to it quite a few times yesterday. Such a great ****ing song.

Note: Between The Buried And Me is a band I like also, but they did not do Cemetery Gates (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlZK_9pFfdg) very well. Their cover of Blackened (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfY_WLIGcfg) does a lil more justice (for all, oooh look how clever I am), but it's still questionable. I do like their version of Soundgarden's The Day I Tried To Live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_zSpv4g9SU) though.

And, two other songs that kinda almost fit the topic of slower paced/softer (relatively speaking) that I just listened to are. In Flames, My Sweet Shadow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lolM8GeGRQc) and Only For The Weak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-744BG0kEI)
