View Full Version : Shaq calls Chris Bosh the 'Rupaul of big men'

After Shaquille O'Neal scored 45 against Toronto on Friday, Raptors star Chris Bosh said O'Neal had benefited from officials ignoring his three-second lane violations.

"I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that's strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men," O'Neal said. "I'm going to do the same thing (in their next meeting) I did before - make him quit. Make 'em quit and complain. It's what I do."

O'Neal is the only NBA player other than Stephon Marbury and Bernard King to record 40-point games with four teams.

"I warned these guys he can do that," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said.

“I heard what Chris Bosh said. Those are strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men,” O’Neal said with a chuckle.

Toronto center Chris Bosh accused Shaq of cheating, saying he was camping in the lane.

“I heard what Chris Bosh said. Those are strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men,” O’Neal said with a chuckle.

:applause:

Classic Shaq...pointing out the truths in this world.

Also Bosh like the soft player he is...is making excuses for terrible defense.

Exactly what i was going to mention... what did Bosh say about Shaq?
what bosh said..

Toronto’s Chris Bosh had an explanation for how Shaquille O’Neal scored 45 points: He cheated.

“He was just camping down in the lane,” Bosh said Friday night, after O’Neal’s biggest scoring night in six years led Phoenix to a 133-113 victory over the Raptors. “I mean, if they’re not calling three seconds—I thought it was a rule, but I guess not.”

Bosh is as soft as tissue paper. It's no wonder that he's not familiar with how to play in the paint. Shaq has won a championship twice as many times as Bosh has even made the playoffs. Bosh criticizing Shaq is funny.

The most ridiculous thing in the NBA is how little traveling is called and the fact that handchecking is illegal now. If they enforced traveling and made handchecking illegal then guys like Tony Parker would be 10-12 point scorers at best. Shaq getting away with a few 3 second violations a few times a game is nothing compared to the treatment that perimeter players get.

brwnman
03-01-2009, 10:37 PM
Bosh never said "Shaq cheated." That was the interpretation of the writer; Bosh was just criticizing the refs and wasn't in no way attacking Shaq...

Bosh is a good player. Consistent 22/9 guy on average, but still for him to try to diminish Shaq's accomplishment is absurd.

Bosh is often garbage against a good big man.

November 10th vs Boston, Toronto lost 94-87

Kevin Garnett- 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 10-19 FG
Chris Bosh- 9 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assists, 0 blocks, 3-8 blocks

That game he was just destroyed on both ends by KG and still his team only lost by 7. If he has a somewhat respectable game then they may have won.

November 30th vs the Lakers, Toronto lost 112-99.

Pau Gasol- 24 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 blocks, 10-17 FG
Chris Bosh- 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 blocks, 4-13 FG

He was dominated again by a player not exactly known for their toughness. It's funny that it wasn't long ago that most people rated Bosh over Gasol. In fact many probably do.

December 17th vs Dallas, Toronto lost 96-86.

Dirk Nowitzki- 27 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 11-20 FG
Chris Bosh- 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 blocks, 6-20 FG

A truly pathetic performance against another big man who isn't exactly known for his toughness. 6-20 shooting?

February 1st vs Orlando, Toronto lost 113-90

Dwight Howard- 29 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
Chris Bosh- 11 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 4-11 FG

Toronto wasn't even competitive and if you're wondering why, look at what Bosh did in comparison to what Howard did.

February 4th vs the Lakers, Toronto lost 115-107

Pau Gasol- 31 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 12-17 FG
Chris Bosh- 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 blocks, 307 FG

Gasol truly dominated Bosh again. Pau had the best game of the season and it's no coincidence that Bosh played poorly even before his injury.

I guess all of those guys stayed in the lane for 6 seconds too.

Do I even have to bring up the first round vs Orlando? Bosh's Raptors only won a single game and when you compare Chris and Dwight, it's not a mystery.

Dwight Howard- 22.6 ppg, 18.2 rpg, 1.6 apg, 3.8 bpg, 63.8 FG%
Chris Bosh- 24.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 3.6 apg, 0.4 bpg, 47.2 FG%

Sure Bosh scored a little more, but Howard averaged more than twice as many rebounds per game! Plus along with the rebounding numbers look at the blocks and FG%. That will tell you which one was playing inside. Bosh's soft perimeter style is nothing compared to a truly dominant big man. Howard had three 20-20 games that series, and they only played 5 games!

The year before Bosh was shut down by Jason Collins in the first round! Collins held Bosh to these numbers.

17.5 ppg, 9 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.0 TO, 39.6 FG%

And this clown has the balls to say something about Shaq? There's a reason Bosh has never made it out of the first round. He's soft, Shaq's right he's the Rupaul of big men. Chris hasn't really improved his game since his 3rd season and I'm not sure he will. You can't teach toughness.

i'm really starting to despise o'neal with the continued classless comments.
i've always had a healthy respect for his abilities, but his mouthiness just seems to get worse and worse.

i was watching the suns-lakers game today and if it was any indication of reality then chris bosh seems to be right. for some reason the refs have gone back to allowing o'neal to camp in the lane almost as long as he wants and to back into and through defenders' territories (sending them flying) without any penalty. indeed, it's players like bosh and gasol now who get called for the foul even though they were standing their ground.

i thought the league made the right adjustment to this crap years ago but apparently stern changed the rules back to give shaq one last hurrah before he retires. or something. i don't know, it's just annoying...

Regardless of the merits of Bosh's opinion, why would he go public with his critiques and criticisms of Shaq's game? Take it up with the officials or the league office... Or, better yet, have your head coach do the dirty work for you... Have him call out the officials.

It just wasn't a good look for Chris to do it himself. It wreaked of an "I have no chance of stopping Shaq myself, so I need to depend on the officials" attitude.

To top it off, he should know that Shaq is the absolute master of the witty, hilarious comeback through the press. He has been doing it for years. A lot of his retorts even stuck to players/teams that probably didn't deserve the labels (Sacramento 'Queens' comes to mind).

Bosh should have known better. Don't tug on Shaq's cape... Have your coach do it for you, if at all.

I do, however, disagree with Bosh's statement. Shaq just straight up killed us. I think it says a lot about our interior defense, but also that the big fella still has it in him. He murdered the Lakers today as well. Blaming the officials is an easy cop out. I expected Shaq to come back with something like this after Bosh's statement. The guy's hilarious whether he's right or not, he's still funny. I'll miss him when he retires.

I don't care what his comments were. Whether he actually said the words "Shaq is cheating" or not, it is really beside the point. He WAS calling out the officials and, indirectly, critiquing Shaq's game.

He inferred that the reason Shaq was so successful was because he took advantage of poor officiating.

I have absolutely no problem with Bosh. I love his game, in fact. I'm not sure that he is the kind of No. 1 option that can lead a team to a championship, but I've been wrong before. He seems like a decent (albeit slightly strange) guy.

Hell... One of my greatest wishes (and one of the most unlikely) is that he and LeBron team up in Cleveland in 2010.

My opinion of Bosh as a person and as a player have nothing to do with my opinion that he did himself a disservice by going to the press with his grievances, however benign he intended them to be.

when someone gets an unfair advantage it is up to someone else to call them out on it, regardless of whether it directly benefits the caller or not.

other teams down the road will probably reap the benefits of bosh (and probably phil jackson) as will the NBA on the whole.

it is not good IMO for any one player to be allowed to individually break the rules consistently.

Raps4Life
03-02-2009, 11:02 AM
There's no denying that Bosh has no chance of guarding Shaq. Shaq is two times the size of Bosh. And it was Bargnani that was mostly guarding him anyway. Bargnani tried in vain to hold Shaq off and did an okay job when he kept shaq 10 ft from the basket (which wasn't often). However, what are you supposed to do when Shaq is allowed to camp in the key, gain very low post position. There is virtually no one who can stop Shaq once he's directly under the basket.

That's the criticism. That's the frustration. What do you do? You try to keep him away from the basket, and it's the NBA rules that assist you to keep guys from just camping there.

Shaq could back Bosh all the way to the basket if he needed to, but how do others guard him if he is allowed to camp?

Funny comment by Shaq though.

Shaq had taken a shot at Bosh earlier this year, before the All Star game. Shaq said that he wasen't going to make a video of himself to try and make it into the All Star game, like Bosh did.

Shaq is an entertainer first, and I don't think he likes the competition from Bosh in the arena. Bosh was novel, uses technology and was very imaginative with his cowboy video that was recognized nationally.

Maybe it was a little tasteless, trying to get people to vote for you to make it to the All Star game, but it was entertainment.

Shaq is larger then life, if that's possible and he's always dissed somebody. Bosh is just another in a long line of Shaq's toys. Bosh was right about the refs not calling the three in the key. But, Shaq creates room for himself in the paint just like every player in the league. Everybody tries to play bigger then they are to clear some space to work. Why should Shaq not be allowed the same as everybody else out there?

This is nothing but entertainment. And Shaq is the king of entertainment, not always classy, not always right, but he is the king.

Guess you would know what soft is seeing as how you have Vince Carter's initials in your username

This stuff about Vince being soft has to stop. Since he became a Net in 2004 he's missed only 10 games. During that time he played through an ankle injury that required surgery and 2 months to recover as well as numerous other injuries. He's now one of the most durable players in the league and some nights it's obvious that he's playing through injuries. There's a reason why most Net fans, even many that didn't initially like Vince, praise him as a good leader and the Nets MVP. You Raptors fans are still butt hurt and Vince has added insult to injury a few times since he's left.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsXjo2TdjRE&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsF4b7V_e0c&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWxYCyijHps&feature=related

Then we can't forget Vince's Nets beating Bosh's Raptors in the playoffs a few years ago despite the Raptors homecourt advantage.

Vince Carter- 25.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 4.0 apg, 43.4 FG%, 46.9 3P%,
Chris Bosh- 17.5 ppg, 9 rpg, 2.5 apg, 39.6 FG%

And it's not a few games that Bosh has played like garbage against the top big men, it happens a lot. It's also not the point that Bosh wasn't guarding Howard the majority of that series. As a supposed star big man it was his job to help out rebounding and help out in the paint on Howard. He couldn't do it and Howard had a historic series.
