I bought myself one of those jump ropes but I'm having a hard time figuring it out. How do you use this thing? I know you have to jump and swing the rope over and under so it could go under you but why is it so god darn difficult?

its just about developing a rhythm and being in synch with the motion.

So they not only set up fight clubs, but let the poor fellas try to figure out how to jump rope by themselves as well......I guess they were hoping they'd all hang themselves eventually.
Hey, Texans have a bad history with the mentally challenged. lol

I jump rope and it can be surprisingly difficult to start. Especially if you try alternating feet, moving forward/back or side to side, and crossing your arms. Usually you want to jump when the rope is above your head. Your rope could also be too small for you.

I jump rope all the time. 10 mins. of intense jump = 30 mins of jogging, plus you get the benifits of building wicked calf muscles.

I always hated jump ropes. I thought they were severely homosexual and I mistimed my jump or hit myself with the rope or almost tripped countless times.
In conclusion, **** jump ropes.

like some said it's all about footwork and developing a rhytme.. learn to skip rope like a boxer, its the best way.. you wanna develop a 1-2, 1-2 rhythm while leaning to the left every 1 and to the right every 2..

Jumping Rope is amazing. Probably the best pre-workout excersize out there.

pretty sure it's due to the FPS limit on the GIF. might even be doctored to enhance the effect.

and her matching facial expression? :D
anyway, wow... those girls are awesome. i hadn't realised so many tricks and variations were possible. maybe i should take up the practice to help my table tennis, since quick bouncing motions are extremely useful.
but, yea... looks like the asian girl was a pretty good match for the gif. nice finds.

Tie the rope around you and crawl like a worm.

Seriously, if you having trouble learning how to do it, try the motions without the rope for a while. Look at a video of someone who does it well and imitate that. Get your arms and legs into the rhythm of it, then introduce the rope.

I watched a documentary about jumproaping years ago. It was called "Jump!" and it basically followed these kids around who competed in national and world jump roping championships.
When I say these kids (mid-late teens) were absolutely amazing athletes, I mean it. I didn't think the sh!t they did with jump ropes was remotely possible.
They'd come up with whole complex routines. Doing front and back flips while jumping rope... acrobatic sh!t. Crazy.
Beware though... it will make you want to never pick up a jump rope again.

Try to forget the fact that she's swinging a rope under her butt and it just looks like she's having some kind of seizure.
