Most Annoying NBA Commentators

In my Opinion it is

1. Charles Barkley. The paula abdul of sports commentators. Is this guy always drunk/high? He interrupts himself halfway through nearly every thought he trys to convey and never gets to the f***ing point. He is the NBA's version of John Madden. Lets just state the obvious every time we're called upon for our opinions.

2. Kenny Smith. He is almost as bad as Barkley but since he completes his sentences most of the time and doesn't interrupt himself halfway through most of his points he's a little better. The ultimate exaggerator. Always hanging on to kobes balls like a b**ch.

3. Stuart Scott. This guy is a stat robot. all he f**ing does is read off obligatory stats that mean absolutely nothing. Plus that creepy cross eyed thing.

I'm a Southern Cali Laker hater, but I wholeheartedly agree with you. Chick was great to listen to. What I liked about him was that he wasn't a homer announcer at all. He called out the Lakers on many occassions. I can't stand Lantz......way too biased. For the record......I don't watch the local Portland announcers cause I only see Blazers games on local CA stations or national tv, but from what I hear they are pretty homerish.

Our local commentators for the nuggets are great. I've heard some of the guys from miami and los angeles and they are putrid. One thing i can't stand about some play by play announcers and commentors is how they just go off on random things going on in the NBA instead of talking about the game their being paid to comment on.

Everytime I watch a Kings game (I try to follow every team, dont hate) that kings commentator makes lame excuses for the team being so sucky. I know broadcasters always support their home team, but some are just toooo annoying.

Bill Walton says stupid things sometimes, but I like it when the commentator/half time guy is a former NBA player, whether it's barkley or Mark Jackson or the jet. They've played the game and know what the guys are going through. That makes me respect their views, even when they're full of it :oldlol:

Stu Lantz is freaking AWESOME, you must be smoking crack. Sure, no one can replace the late Chick Hearn, but Stu is a really nice guy. I've met him before, shook his hand, got his autograph. He is very unbiased and knows a lot about the game. It's that new clown they hired to replace Chick that I can't stand.

And to answer the TC's question, the Portland Trailblazers announcers are the worst. The play-by-play guy is ok, it's the other one that's a crazy, biased, nutcase.

Ernie Johnson gets on my nerves. He is a talking head who probably has never played a game of competitive basketball in his life. He has NOTHING to contribute to any discussions and never displays any passion about anything. All he can do is give STATS, but anyone can read stats off a paper. I get the impression he's only there to babysit Chuck and Kenny.

And the woman who commentates the highlights on NBA.com is probably the worst... ever. Nothing even needs to be said about her. If you've ever heard her before then you know exactly what I mean.

And I also cant stand Marv Albert and Mike Fratello. Apart, these guys are insightful. Together, they clash so badly that they spend half the games in awkward silences. (you fellow Net fans will understand)

Thats not sexist. Female commentators generally have no clue about the sport theyre reporting on. With most of them, its pretty obvious that they work in the sports business because Fox news wouldnt hire them. :oldlol:

A well-spoken white guy to do the lead-ins, read the teleprompter, manage the time/commercial breaks, say the politically correct things, just generally do the things that Kenny and Charles can't do, and make sure things don't get out of control.

Well, if it means anything, Ernie's father was a former Major League pitcher (with the Braves in the '50 and '60s), and later became a Braves play-by-play broadcaster. It could be a case of nepotism that Ernie got his job at Turner because of his father, but nonetheless I think he's a lot better than some of these other broadcasters that got their jobs because of Daddy (Joe Buck and Kenny Albert, I'm looking at you ;) )

Count me in as part of the anti-Stu Lantz camp. I don't watch a lot of Laker games like I used to (and even then it wasn't a whole lot), but Lantz doesn't already tell me what I already don't know, which is what a color commentator is suppose to do without talking down to their audience. I just think that Lantz has become worse since Chick Hearn passed on, and it's almost seven years since Hearn died.

Most of them. Gimme a radio broadcast ANY day over a TV one. Very, VERY few commentators really and truly know what they are talking about. Either they are too bland, or try too hard to come up with some sort of "gimmick" to appease the fans. I don't mind a guy being a bit of a homer, but what bugs me is when you can clearly tell that a guy doesn't watch a team ever, yet still acts like he is the authority on them. So many commentators who do the Cavs games will still refer to Ilgauskas as "injury prone." That's real old news.
