I'm considering getting a Shiba Inu. I've seen a few of these lately and they are so cute and fox like. I hear great things from their owners.

I've always wanted an Alaskan Husky or Siberian Husky. When I was 10 years old me and my mother were at Mall of America and we just stopped in a pet shop becuase my father was using the bathroom next to the pet store. So me and my mom go in and they had this Siberian Husky puppy that was so beautiful. I think the thing I liked about it the most was one eye was blue and the other eye was brown. Ever since then when the time is right in my life for a dog, that's the dog I would prefer to have.

I was going to say this exact dog. I remember Jeff had the camera of a bunch of puppies of this breed. Cutest thing ever. If I were to ever get a dog, I would definitely get a Shiba Inu pup. I have grown fond of cats recently though. Would be a tough decision

Ha word, I love cats too. I actually prefer cats over dogs but apparently Shiba's play nicely. I got to play with one of these the other day it was the most fun I've had in a while.

toy poodles.
i got one as a gift about seven years ago. i was really pissed off when i got him. i obviously wanted a bigger, "manlier" dog but i quickly grew to love the lil bastard. he's insanely intelligent, has more heart and personality than any dog i've ever met, and very athletic. i used to take him outside and let him off his leash and the little f*ck would run for hours... and NOBODY but me could catch him. he's ridiculously quick and could jump really high when he wanted to. i remember one time he jumped from the floor to the kitchen table in a clean jump, straight off the vert. the dog was hilarious, i swear he knows how to make me laugh. he really has a personality unlike any dog i've ever met, and the best part? he doesn't shed. he has a ton of heart too, i remember a few times that he would stand up to other huge dogs. of course i wouldn't let it escalate cuz i didn't want him to get killed, but i always loved that about him. unfortunately my dad gave him away last summer. :violin: for my next dog i'm thinking of getting a greyhound.

I don't know a whole lot about toy poodles, but my aunt has always had standard poodles and they are really cool dogs (I assume the same goes for the smaller versions). A lot of people don't realize how athletic poodles are. They were actually bred to be retrievers and bird dogs.
I have two 100-pound weimaraners.
Here they are as puppies:
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/4868/lmcropped.jpg
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2398/ml4.jpg
And from a couple of years ago...
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5654/bythefire.jpg
As you can see, they are very attached to each other. :oldlol:
If there were a dog draft, weimaraners would be the most athletic, probably. Their top speed isn't quite as fast as a greyhound, but they have MUCH more endurance and can run incredibly fast for incredible amounts of time. As a matter of fact, sometimes when I take my dogs for runs and I am in an isolated area, I get in the car and they run alongside it. I've gotten it over 30 mph and they stick right with me... And we're talking about for miles.
I believe they were originally bred to hunt big game, but were later used as retrievers and bird dogs. They have absolutely great personalities, but you have to live in an area with sprawling land so that you can really run them. Taking them out for an occasional walk like you would do with a boxer or a bulldog simply will not work for weimers. They are too athletic and too energetic.
But, watching them run is a beautiful thing. I actually enjoy it. When they get in a wide open field, it is like watching a couple of Usain Bolts... Only faster and so agile... It's crazy.

My best friend has a weimaraner RBA, everything you said is exactly true as usual. His is around the same size it looks like, maybe a tad more bulk, bit darker coat. About three years old now I think but he was already at least a few months old when he got him so we aren't entirely sure. He had a son about a year ago and he and his wife were somewhat worried about them interacting because he's a pretty excitable dog, but he's been outstanding, he's such a protector of him. He only lets people he really knows and trusts play with the kid without him being within the immediate vicinity. Just in general he's not entirely accepting of strangers, but not in a bad way, just not immediately trusting. But he's known me just as long as his owner so he's all over me as soon as I walk in the door. I take him out running with me as well every so often and there's absolutle no tiring him. I'll be on my 3rd mile and he's still pulling as hard as possible on the leash to go faster and faster. He's the only one I've ever encountered but they do seem like a very good breed.

That sounds just like my dogs. They are very loving if they know you. If it isn't someone in my immediate family who is around a lot or a close friend, they can be very standoffish. I've had nothing but weimaraners my whole life. The one that I had before these two was a great, great dog, but he could be violent under certain circumstances.
After he died, I went to the breeder and told him that we would like the same kind of dog, but a little less aggressive. He is one of the top breeders in the country and has actually won Westminster. He bred these two specifically for me and they wouldn't hurt a fly.
Now... like I said... They are not always welcoming to strangers, but they are not aggressive.
Personally, I will never own any other breed.

Can you post some pics? I wanna see that...
I just noticed I don't have many good pics of him standing up. Most are of him laying down, but here:

He's a year and a half old. I've had him about 4 months now. Me and my girlfriend adopted him from an animal shelther around Dallas. He's pretty cool. He's VERY smart, but you'd expect that from a German Shepherd/Scottish Terrier mix. And before anyone says he needs a bigger pillow, I'll get him one when I move to a bigger apartment lol. Right now I live with 2 other guys, but I'll be movin into my own apartment in a month.

I know not many will agree with me, but pugs are the cutest damn dogs. I owned one as a kid named Wally haha. They are so fun, and have the greatest personality.
i agree, pugs are the sh*t!

My bro had a pug. It's nose ran all the time. Is that usual for that breed?

do you mean his nose was wet all the time?? cause if it is, that means they're okay. their noses get dry when they're sick.
if that's the case, that was a really healthy dog.

Hmmm, not that I remember. of all the pugs I've known though, all of them have licking problems. once they start giving kisses they won't stop unless you reprimand them. Makes me miss mine

and as far as their nose running all the time, i don't think that's normal. my girlfriend's best friend has two of them and their noses don't run at all.

Yeah those critters can grow into massive sizes! I think they are the largest dog breed in existence (although not the tallest). Great Danes I think are the tallest dog breed.

If I had the space, I would get a Caucasian Shepherd. But since I don't, I'm planning on getting a Rottweiler puppy.

Corso's are more bulkier, but an English Mastiff can get much bigger weight wize. Those things can easily weigh up to 200+lbs.
