How tall is Bill Walton?

I know he is listed at 6'11'' although many say he is well over 7 feet tall. I read somewhere that the last time he was measured was as a freshman in college @ UCLA where he measured to be 6'11'' and he refuses to be labeled a 7-footer since he believes 7-footers are freaks. And when Walton played for the Celtics in '86 he appears to be taller than 7 foot Parish in the team photo.

He looks like a monster there. When I saw him play against Kareem, he was clearly not nearly as tall as Kareem at 7'2" although he thoroughly dismantled the Lakers in the 1977 playoffs :eek:

Yeah, people begin to lose height as they age, which would account for why he's so much shorter looking than shaq in that pic. Men grow till they're about 25, then eventually start shrinking.

By the way it should be noted that not all men shrink in their 50's, 60's or 70's. Bill Russell is in his 75 and still looks his stated height of 6'9 1/2" next to other NBA players. Kareem Abdul Jabbar is in his 60's and looks every bit of 7'2" next to other NBA players as well.

When you're younger, you're body grows during your sleep, hence why you're taller in the morning than in the afternoon. When you get older, you stop growing and this difference is basically not made up for during sleep.

Your nose and ears seem to be getting bigger, because the cartilage in yout nose and ears continues to grow throughout your life.

You're also taller in the morning. There was a guy on the Lakers in the 60's who had been drafted by the military, but was borderline "too tall" as they could not accommodate for guys that were too tall with things like uniforms, boots, etc.

The guy was right at the limit and needed to be officially measured so they rolled him out of bed first thing in the morning, loaded him into an ambulance and took him to the induction center to be measured when he was at his tallest (first thing in the morning).

Bill Walton was pretty outspoken even when he was in college under John Wooden. I think he kind of shied away from the media when he was a Blazer, but overall, he's quite the talker.
