if it lets the bench feel like theyre part of the team even though they do not play significant minutes, it does its job.
cant help but think its lebron who orchestrated most of these rituals... a true leader will bind his teammates in the most awkward and most relaxing way possible.
lebron has all these secret handshakes he has with his teammates and fellow players around the league, you cant help but wonder if they love this guy and its true. most of his teammates and fellow players do love him

As long as you enjoy what you do and it builds chemistry in the team why not, plus most of these guys are pretty young anyway. Just messing around I guess, plus NBA is part entertainment anyway.
quasimoto
03-20-2009, 10:35 AM
Actually I think it's one of the major reasons they have the best record in the league right now. There's gotta be some kind of cohesion between the players and the Cavs look to me like they're all good buddies... nothing wrong with acting 'childish'.

I think the pre-game ritual is fantastic. This is suppose to be entertainment. Personally I'm glad the TV crews have finally caught on to it and now show the celebration as a part of the pre-game telecast.
It's like an end zone celebration before the NFL tried to take away all the fun.
http://www2.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Boston+Celtics+v+Cleveland+Cavaliers+Game+e2BJ-UGRzcQl.jpg
This is another pre-game ritual, that even when done on the road often draws cheers from an otherwise hostile crowd.

I have no problem with that. He's just loosening up the troops (a good leader does that) and being the big fun loving kid that he is. You have to try pretty hard to find a valid reason to dislike LeBron.
It's like an end zone celebration before the NFL tried to take away all the fun.

It's pretty lame but I have no problem with it. This team is probably closer than any other in the league. They really do look like a family.
Can someone tell me what happened to Trey Johnson?
Sportscenter showed it this morning. Never knew they did it before because I've seen the Cavs play on the road and they didnt do it. People who contribute thier success with these acts are a bit silly. Probably the type to wear the same boxers when something good happens. Because changing them would give a bad result. So kep wearing the same boxers. It works!

It's a bunch of young dudes messing around for the camera. They are not hurting anyone or being disrespectful: just blowing off some steam before the game. Why would anyone be bothered by this? Any team I have ever played behaved like retards occasionally...when you have that much energy built up before a competition something like this helps let it out in a team building way.
Blowing off steam? lol Wtf?

Professional athletes are entertainers. It's not like they're trying to repair the hole in the ozone or bring peace to warring countries. They are entertaing fans and preparing for a game. Part of preparing for a game is mental preparation and there is more than one way to climb that mountain.
Whatever they do, I'd have to say it works for them, harms no one and apparently spins out uptight fans of opposing teams. What's not to like?

True. But Ray Lewis will snap your pelvis in half then murder you in the parking lot. His dance is more like a voodoo ritual to summon the savage spirits to wreak havoc on other team.
I like the Cavs ritual. Are you guys the fun police or something? I like the one they did the night before though, where LBJ took the picture and stuck his hand out for money...:oldlol:

I like things like this tbh, it shows the team has fun together, and it helps them build chemistry, helps them feel like they are all part of a group.
Far better than some teams where it looks like players can barely stand sitting next to each other on the bench.
Nothing is as gay as the cheerleading routine the suns do at home where shaq dances, he throws (yes throws) players, on and on. It's so convluted and ridiculous, especially for a team like that that has no real chemistry and loses every game, such contrived bull****.

That's how it is in a lot of arenas. But it's usually in arenas that have more than one sport/team I think(I'm guessing a lot of universities have it too..)...
Anyway, look at how happy the fans are in those pictures...gets them pumped up for the game. I bet you Laker fans would LOVE IT if Kobe did the chalk thing and call it a part of his "killer instinct pre-game ritual" or something. Or you would talk about how good the Lakers chemistry is and what a good leader he is. Pretty much what half of you guys are saying about LBJ. LBJ SINGLE-HANDEDLY brought back the Cavs. Games are SOLD OUT. He can do whatever he wants.
No doubt about that. They were the sorriest team in the league back in the 80's. When I had a Laker season ticket, that was one of the games we always were willing to give away or trade for more tickets to other games.
Back then, we called them the "Cadavaliers".
They had a bit of a resurgence with Nance, Ehlo and those guys, but they were hurting for a long time.
========================
Bird probably wouldn't have liked it, but so what? LeBron doesn't have to imitate Bird's pre-game. Bird was a very serious dude and that was his way of dealing.
LBJ is different. The Cavs are different. Celebrate the difference. It's OK. I like that LeBron is able to have fun and still perform at the level that he does.

Pretty childish and over the top. There is no air of respectability in Lebron's character (like an MJ had). All he does is live up to the stereotypes of young black men. He's too stupid to talk properly, has an absurd amount of self-worshiping tattoos and does ridiculous over the top immature things (eg. dances, rituals etc).why is your post based on "LeBron James"?
in those pictures i clearly see TK, Gibson, Darnell Jackson, Delonte West, JJ Hickson, and more. Yet, "LeBron is so childish. He needs to grow up"
I guess you didnt have much fun when you were a kid :ohwell:

they're #1. Let them live a little
I heard there are trying to get the fans pumped up more. The Cavs fans just sit and watch the games. The game last night the PA guy was trying to get the fans to say defense. But they still would not do it.
Atleast when Lebron makes a basket he gets a little cheer from the fans.

It's not as bad as KG running around before the game. Basket to basket jumping around. hitting the padded mats.

Does anyone know why Z, Andy and Mo never join in? ever since they started doing it more and more of the teamates jump in, like Gibson, they should really start making the hwole team in it. Its really awesome how Lebron takes imaginary snapshots when theres always going to be some ninja photographer there to take a real one and post it on the internets.
doing it once was unique and cool.
doing it every game is beyond lame.

From left to right :
Lorenzen Wright (benchwarmer)
Tarence Kinsey (stays on the bench for the most part)
Trey Johnson (D-Leaguer, signed 2 10-day contracts and is not with the team anymore)
Darnell Jackson (Rookie, doesn't play a lot)
JJ Hickson (Rookie, doesn't play a lot)

Maybe after all these failures, LeBron will learn to respect the game and the NBA.
