Working retail right now. Might be getting a job running a lathe at a machine shop, though. Still waiting for the guy to call me. If he doesn't need me, I'll start looking for a machine operator's job. The shipyard down the way is starting up their apprentice programs, so I'll look into that, and I filled out an app at Raytheon.

1. Do the dishes?
2. Run vaccum?
3. Sweep?
4. Mop floors?
5. Do laundry?
6. Clean bathroom?
7. Cut grass/rake leaves?

Who does those things since all you do is take out trash. Do you even empty trash cans/bins throughout the house into the larger bag? Is all of this foreign to you? Probably so.

Anyways, during the school year I just go to school but it's pretty much a job. I do homework/go to class at least 40 hours a week.

I'm not going to go into full detail with what I do or the company as my name has accidentally been released once before.

But I worked at natural gas drilling sites with a service company providing a service to the operator (like Chevron, EOG, Shell etc). Jobs in Ft. Worth are pretty easy since you dont have to run 1000+ (sometimes a mile) feet of fiber cable but other jobs around the nation require to do that as well as rigging in and out of an offset well. It's a lot of physical work but it's a ton of fun. You just f*ck around to pass the time and I learned A LOT about life from the older people working. The hours are brutal though. I worked a 90+ hour week and a 24 hour day one time. All the other weeks were 60+ hours

Oh, and I got major bank. Somewhere around 15 grand.

subbing high school--easy. By then, the kids either like school and behave and do what they are supposed to do, or they hate school and sleep the whole time. Makes for an easy day for me. Very rarely will students ever give me a hard time. I can oftentimes just have them do whatever, and then I can come onto ish and post :D

middle school--tougher. Kids at that age start testing their powers, and they have the vocab/knowledge of someone older, but are still really immature. Subbing in the middle school has probably been my worst experience. It's enjoyable sometimes, but when I think of the bad days I've had, 90 percent of them come from this age bracket

elementary school--Kids at this age have a hard time adapting to change in routine, and being that it's impossible for me the sub to duplicate the umpteen things that the regular teacher does, it makes it tough. I never have disciplinary problems, though. I am very tired at the end of the day, though.

Hawker
03-26-2009, 10:53 PM
I remember f*cking with subs all the time. You could really tell who the clueless ones were. Sometimes we would just leave the classroom and then come back 20 min later. The sub would say, "Where have you been?" and say, "the bathroom."

"That was a long time."
"I know."

And then go sit down.

Same sub different class this time. It was speech class and we were performing our speeches so we recorded them so the teacher could watch them and grade them on her own time. We all put our names on a piece of paper for roll and she would choose people to perform based on the names. So me and my friends decided to put, "Robert Paulson" as one of the names. (If you have watched Fight Club, you know what I'm talking about) A few people had done their speech and nobody was volunteering to go and she said, "Robert Paulson are you here? It's time to do your speech." I couldn't stop laughing. She kept on repeating it like the f*cking movie. "Robert Paulson. Robert Paulson." And then one dude said, "uhhh, I dont think there is a Robert Paulson in here." (he knew where it was from). She said, "why would someone put a name down of somebody who isnt in this class." COMPLETELY CLUELESS

The guy who said Robert Paulson didnt exist started snickering and said, "Because there are some sick people out there." (He said this as a joke.) I was laughing hysterically the whole time. Good times.

Good times.

I probably would've cried from laughter.

I remember f*cking with subs all the time. You could really tell who the clueless ones were. Sometimes we would just leave the classroom and then come back 20 min later. The sub would say, "Where have you been?" and say, "the bathroom."

"That was a long time."
"I know."

And then go sit down.

That's pretty damn funny. I've never been "had" like that, but I'm not a huge movie guy, so I could see myself maybe falling into that sort of trap if a student ever decided to do that. I would probably just laugh and commend them for pulling that whole thing off. I mean, what else can ya do? I def. wouldn't have asked why the student put down a name of someone who isn't in the class. That's dumb.

In my job, you have to have that ability to laugh at yourself if you mess up. Otherwise, the students will bury you.

Because you're supposed to go to school if you can afford it. It's what you should and having a good education which will give you better opportunities in life is more than enough incentive. You aren't even very intelligent so clearly there should no reason for your mom to just award you for attending.

You only focus on yourself in regards to your family. Putting your mother in a nursing home without second thoughts? So once she can't take care of you anymore you're just going to ship her ass out instead of returning the favor?

Also an 89 average is pathetic, especially in high school, thats nothing to be proud of, not to mention you don't know a simple word that is even used all the time in the nba forum.

Finally, I doubt you'll make a living playing hockey so unless you take pride in being slightly above average at something that is little more than a hobby you should reevaluate how "exceptional" you think you are.

True, but it's just the way he explains is, that he gets the money for going to school. I mean, getting money from parents is fine of course, I don't anymore but that's only because I'm at a boarding school, but he seems to think that because he goes to school he deserves it, which IMO is the wrong way to think about allowances.

Plus, by him saying that 'I'm the best kind of kid a parent could want' probably automatically places him nowhere near being the 'perfect kid' because of 1 thing: humility, and that guy sure doesn't have much of it.

$125 a week is pretty damn good, but like you said, others were getting more, and that doesn't surprise me. That's crazy, but I definately knew people in school who had parents that were footing the bill for EVERYTHING. Exactly...I got 15 dollars a day in high school and 125.00 a week in college, which is not crazy by anymeans. My parents just wanted me to be able to do the things the other kids around me were able to do. And I grew up in a rich neighborhood. But trust me some kids get WAY more then this.

holy f*ck...15 dollars a day? Jesus Christ.

I would get 20 bucks for lunch and then like 10 bucks allowance. I mowed the lawn, washed dishes, set the table and vacuumed. Most of my leisure income came from reffing soccer games. I also had to pay insurance on my car every month.

And for doing things that other kids could do? Wow. I would ask my parents for stuff other kids got and would sometimes get it but more times than not it was a no.

I stopped getting a damn allowance after middle school. I would just get 10 bucks now and then if I wanted to go to a movie or something my freshman year of hs. After that they told me to get a damn job if wanted to go out somewhere. There are some spoiled ass people here on ISH.

Do parents not teach any kind of work ethic any more? Am I just too old to understand?

mine always said they didnt give me allowance because i was SUPPOSED to do chores around the house. They said it was my responsibility, not me doing them a favor. Damn parents and their stanards/expectations!

When I have kids, I'll make sure that whatever I give to them they wont take for granted. That's what my dad did anyways and even though AP/Pre-AP classes were hard, he would make me take them and just say, "Study hard, go to tutoring and quit b!tching."

I see people all the time saying HS was a joke and this and that and I'm like, "WTF high school was pretty hard for me."

Whatever, the responsibilities of the real world will rightfully bring down the dispositions of spoiled teenz. That's a given in the past, the present and the future. Billz, children, house maintenance, you name it. Practical life truly is a b!tch and I am but a naive freshman.

F*ck my childhood, but it is the catalyst to an inevitable success. ( no cocky)

It's not the monetary amount that makes canadianballer ridiculous. Its the fact that he thinks he deserves the money for doing absolutely nothing.

I didn't even have a limit on how much I could spend but I never went crazy with my money. My parents always trusted me and now they even worry that I spend too little in college.

When your in high school and don't have any bills to pay, don't have to worry about buying food either, $60 is plenty for a month, mainly considering you don't do squat to earn it.
