One of the most talented player in NBA History. I am glad that I watched him evolve into a great player since he was drafted by the Hornets straight from HS, and then he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

He was amazing in game six of the NBA finals. He kept his team in the game playing 42 minutes and showed why he's the best basketball player in the game. Even in a loss, he didn't give up.

That was pretty much the same thing for Hakeem. He reached his prime/peak in his 30's, but his athletic ability declined and you can tell just by looking at his rebounds/blocks/steals stats.

That's really the true way you know somebody declined with their athletic ability. Kevin Garnett has completely regressed on those categories as well, and he's clearly losing his athletic ability.

Kobe's 62 points in 3 quarters against Dallas is most definitely one of his five best all time performances.
Also when he had 4 straight 50+ point games, that was something only Wilt has done.

One of the most complete offensive players ever to grace the game. He truly evolved his game over the years and is playing at his best even with the decline of his athletic ability. He is the most hated one here. But you gotta respect what he has done for this game and all of his accomplishments. People try to pick aprt what he hasnt done, I try to look at what he has done and appreciate that, and its damn impressive. You dont gotta like the guy, but he is a very special player and we are lucky to be have been able to watch him throughout the years

3 time NBA Champion.

Too bad the last time we saw him in the NBA finals it was a 39 point lashing. How can a 3-time NBA champion, most valuable player, lead his team to such a beatdown. Yes, it's one game. But if you are the symbol of a team and don't get the job done 7-21 22 points in 42 minutes when your team needed you the most, you are overrated in my book. The last two NBA finals appearance, Kobe had some great games, but many of them were below expectation. Game 4, did Kobe, the black mamba, hold on to that massive 20 plus point lead at home? How can the best basketball player allow his opponents a chance, an opportunity is beyond me. Kobe had the most playoff experience out of all the players in that NBA series. Yet in game six, he played like a rookie or an individual who never been there before.

Celtics were better as a team, they were more healthly than L.A, played better defense and were smarter. They also had homecourt which was important for the tone of the series. Kobe didn't play great but him alone wasn't the reason they lost. Celtics were simply better and took advantage of the Lakers lack of interior defense. Feel free If you think Kobe is overrated or not good enough..whatever just stop going on and on about what happened in the finals. It's old news.

Now move on...we are in 2009.

I thought 2004 was a fluke and that Kobe would prove my hatred of him wrong, then 2008 repeats. What i'm suppose to do? Blame the entire team. It was almost like the Phoenix Suns game seven fiasco (after blowing a 3-1 lead). People blame the team more than Kobe quitting on them. Leaders don't quit on their team. Leaders don't ask to be traded.

It's always been funny to me that there is always this undercurrent of "Kobe fans are the worst", "they think he's better than Jordan", "the Kobe trolls..." blah blah blaaaah

You start off by saying Kobe isn't the best Laker. Then you say that Magic won at all stages: high school, college, and as a rookie. Why the hell does high school and college matter?

Yep, he sure showed his killer instinct choking away a 3-1 series lead on the Suns. He sure showed it chucking his team out of the finals in 2004. He sure showed it getting rolled 4-1 in '07. He really put it on display in Game 4 of the finals last year, Boston was making a run and he just ripped their hearts out! What about Game 6? Oh boy he was such a killer in that game. Kobe's athletic abilities haven't declined a lot. Probably at about 85% of what he was when he was 18. He draws much more of the offensive and defensive attention now so he paces himself better. Remember: He could easily beat 2 or 3 guys offensively from a good college team at this very moment. He's still better than 99.9% of all men, conditioning wise.

He didn't shoot as well as he did in the last few series, and he still makes selfish plays that drive me insane, but Bryant is now a much deserved Finals MVP and champion as the central piece of a team. I wouldn't be surprised if another one follows next year. He's definitely moved up a couple of notches with regard to his position in NBA history with this championship.

Yeah the FG% was down, but you don't win it on paper. Kobe kept attacking and making plays for others. Good Finals performance.

The guy's a real monster..and as a lot of people have said before, both here and on ESPN, is that this dude lived past the comparisons to McGrady, Carter and Iverson and is now surpassing those to Melo, Wade and Bron. Time after time, the media tries to portray match ups such as Bryant vs. Whoever. Well all six of those players are sitting at home and Kobe's playing in the Finals, most likely to get his fourth ring.

I like Kobe a lot...the only thing that irks me about the Lakers are their dumbass fans with the exception of a few.

You can say what you want Kobe is great yes..but Lebron if he isn't better already(which I think he is) but Lebron will be the best player in the NBA for the next 7 or 8 years so consider this Kobes fairwell tour this year.

Obviously LeBron is poised to take the torch -- I've always said that Bron could be the best ever. He needs to work on getting better. If LeBron brings his skills up to Kobe's level, he'll average 40 points per night.

I'm not saying LeBron has better stats than Wilt. When I first said LeBron is better than half of these men is because some of these guys played in a weak era, different rules or I think their skill level is not that great. That's just my opinion. Kareem, he played a good era in the 70's an 80's. He put up great stats, won awards and won 1 NBA title. But couldn't win it again until he had Magic. What about his era was exactly weak?

That wasn't the point of my comment. The point was that so many of his fans are somewhat ignorant of Kobe Bryant, since they're too young to have followed his career. They don't even have memory of Shaq as a Laker and bash him pretty bad. Many of them are bandwagon fans also who just want to associate with a winner. Simmilar to many Bulls fans in the 90s. In fact I would say 90% plus of the teenager in my school back in the 90s were Bulls fans, rather than Knicks fan, to the point that I would get surprised during Knicks home games when the crowd would cheer for them. They care less about basketball and more about associating with a winner. How can a basketball fan in New York cheer for the Bulls when the only team on TV on a daily bases were the Knicks???

Why does that matter? Answer: it doesn't. Kobe still carved out his career as a Laker. He began as a Laker, rose to fame as a Laker, and will probably retire as a Laker.

That's human nature dude, to associate with a winner. Sports teams are like mini-armies, you associate with a loser then you and your family dies after your guys are defeated and taken over by the stronger army. You need heroes to rally your army and win! You have to compare which hero is better, so you can follow the right one and not be lead to your deaths by a weak hero.

We need to appreciate our heroes and understand what makes them great, that's how our ancestors survived for 40,000 years.

No, by more ways, you mean Kobe had a bit more range? Jordan had better shot selection, he was better off the ball, he was better at getting to the rim, he was more aggressive attacking the basket and due to his superior athleticism, he was a better finisher. As a result, Jordan was a more consistent and effective scorer, hence his 10 scoring titles, superior regular season, playoff and finals scoring averages and superior FG%, TS% ect.

Jordan was also a better defender, stepped up more in the playoffs and he was a better passer/playmaker.

Jordan was CLEARLY better than Kobe. I respect Kobe a lot as a player and have nothing against him as a person, but he's clearly not as good as Jordan was. Definitely top 10 all time, IMO, though.

Gotta lol that Kobe only has three playoff series in his entire career where he averaged more ppg than Jordan's career playoff average (33.4 ppg). Kobe also only has one playoff series in his career (35 ppg vs. Sac) where he exceeded Jordan's pre-first retirement career playoff average (34.8 ppg, over 110 playoff games; 24 series in total), and he didn't shoot nearly as well (47% vs. MJ's 51+%).

Yet this is a guy that fanatics will try to argue is better than Jordan. Top 10? Yes, definitely. Likely to retire top 5-8 somewhere. A tremendous talent. Second best SG ever. Not nearly Jordan.

The Kobe Trolls are the no.1 reason why Kobe was one of the most hated players in this forum.

I forgot that he had those stats against them.

Lot of people forget because of Lebron's series against the magic.

But Kobe's series against the Nuggets is probably one of the most underrated performances of the last decade in Kobe's career.

Kobe put up 34 6 6 on 48%fg 34%3P 93% FT. One of Kobe's most efficient efforts against the Lakers toughest opponent imo on the 2009 title run. While also spending some time guarding Carmelo.

I think Kobe's series against the Nuggets was just as good as Lebron's series against the Magic. Kobe was guarding freaking Carmelo Anthony at times, and they were battling it out over the first 2 games. Before Kobe took over the last 4 and proved he was the better player. Kobe was also doing this in high altitude in Denver where players get more fatigued.

Statisticians will say otherwise, but Kobe was on par with Lebron's series against Orlando. :rant

This post is a perfect example of why Kobe is the most overrated player ever. 34/5.8/5.8/48% against a non-noted defensive team is equal to 37/8/7/52% or whatever it was that Lebron posted against the #1 rated defense in the league? No.

Lol dont forget the part where he averaged 5 turnovers on shot in the upper 70% from the free throw line. And most important Kobe WON his series. Stats are irrelevant when you lose

How convenient that you leave out the part where most wings had a field day against Orlando, as that was their whole defensive plan?

Wade averaged: 38/5/6 against Orlando in the regular season
Kobe averaged 35/11/7 against Orlando in the regular season
Roy averaged 29/6/5 against Orlando in the regular season
Carmelo averaged 29/8/2 against Orlando in the regular season.

Kobe's performance against Denver was more impressive.

I totally agree that Kobe's performance against the Nuggets is vastly under-rated. However.....a lot of you are missing the point on what made Lebron's performances so great. Lebron did what he did on a team with no help at all. Not only did the Cavs have far less talent than the Magic/Lakers....but all of Lebron's teammates no showed for that series against the Magic. Orlando knew it was going to be all Lebron and he still owned them in a way that really hasn't been seen since Jordan retired. While Kobe played great....having a legit team with options opens things up a lot for him and made his life a lot easier. Its much tougher to score efficiently and dominate the game if the team you are playing doesn't have to worry about the other players.

Its not a knock on Kobe. He's a great player.....but the fact is that the Cavs would never win a game at Orlando if Lebron went 11 for 31 for the field like Kobe did in the Game 4 win. That is why having a great team around you is so important....these players are not perfect and they have off nights sometimes....and they true championship caliber teams are able to overcome this.

Kobe Shot 48%FG 34%3P 93%FT

Lebron Average 15.6 FTA per game. (That's basically like 06 Finals Wade)
Kobe Average 12 FTA per game.

Lebron Average 25.6 FGA per game.
Kobe Average 21.8 FGA per game.

Kobe 2.16 TO per Game
Lebron 4.16 TO per Game

Kobe had arguably the more efficient series.

Lebron's volume stats were result of him just having the ball more in that series than Kobe.

Plus the Magic's gameplan was simply to let Lebron get his and shut everybody else down. A lot of wing players were putting up big games against the Magic that season. Yes they were a number #1 rated defense, but they hardly did anything to stop Lebron. Just look at all the stats that Wade, Kobe, Roy, and other great wings put against the Magic during the season.

Kobe had to play in a higher altitude area of Denver, where you get more fatigued. Guard a elite scorer in Carmelo Anthony on many possessions.

I don't know if Lebron actually faced a tougher matchup individually. I say Kobe and Lebron played under the same amount of defensive pressure. I'm pretty sure SVG admitted to letting LBJ get his and just lock down everybody else.

The Cavaliers faced a tougher team defense than the Lakers.
Kobe and Lebron individually probably had equally difficult matchups considering the fact Kobe had to guard a player the caliber of Carmelo Anthony in high altitude on several possessions where Lebron was simply a roamer most of the Orlando series.

:oldlol:

I love how he throws out ppg when comparing Jordan to modern stars and never mentions FGA. Jordan took more FGA and consumed more of his team's possessions than anyone in history! He never mentions these minor details, although he is quick to point out pace for Wilt or Kareem vs. Jordan. Imagine if Lebron decided to lead the league in FGA year after year (MJ did it 9x and 10x if you count 95' and even in 02' he was #2 behind AI!)...

Bryant is playing phenomenal basketball right now. I was one of the many who thought during the regular season that LeBron had clearly surpassed him as the game's greatest player. But if Kobe can keep playing this way for the rest of the playoffs and win another ring, I think it comes down to a matter of his increasing age dictating when he plays to his best ability. He can't physically do what Bron does (i.e. beast every single night) so he has to pick and choose his times to really exert his dominance. When he does, however, as he is doing right now, I don't think there's a player alive who's as good as him.

No, Jordan did not have more FGA or FGA/game than anyone ever.

Elgin Baylor took 23.8 FGA per game career, more than Jordan.
Both Kareem and Karl Malone had more FGA career than Jordan as well.

Stop posting misinformation.

As well, part of Jordan's greatness was maintaining superb efficiency while having high volume. That is very difficult to do. As volume increases for most players, efficiency decreases. Thus, if LBJ increased his FGA, his efficiency would likely decrease.

Roundballrock never said anything about Jordan leading in career FGA per game. He was referring to FGA per game on a yearly basis not career-wise.

Between 1989-1990 season and 1997-1998 season, Jordan lead the league in FGA for 7 out of the 9 years (1 of those years he was "retired").
