Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis Colts

You build championship teams with quarterbacks and Peyton Manning is that quarterback. Thanks to Manning and the team built around him, the Colts have been to the playoffs nine times in the past ten seasons. Manning is 33, but he still has a number of playoff years and a Super Bowl or two left in him. Having him is like having a head coach out on the field.

Peyton Manning took a different approach to earning a record-tying third Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback got hurt, struggled when he came back, then lost a bunch of games. Hardly vintage Manning.

But when he rediscovered the touch that has made him one of football's dominant players for a decade, Manning and the Colts were virtually unstoppable.

Now Manning can tell Brett Favre to move over and make room for him atop the roster of MVPs.

"I really feel like it's a team award," Manning said Friday. "Just what our team went through this year and the way we responded and bounced back to a little bit of football adversity at the beginning of the season, being 3-4.

"It's been the most rewarding regular season that I've been a part of in my 11 years, and I have to believe a lot of the other players and even coaches might feel the same way."

Manning received 32 votes in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL. He also was the league MVP in 2003, when he shared it with Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, and in 2004.

Favre, then with Green Bay, took MVP honors in 1995 and '96 before sharing it with Detroit running back Barry Sanders in 1997. The award has been given by The AP since 1961.

Manning has been part of a most unusual season for the Colts, who normally have the AFC South just about clinched by Thanksgiving. Manning had two operations on his left knee in the preseason, cutting into practice time, blunting his usual precision as a passer and, eventually, leading to that 3-4 start.

From there, with Manning getting sharper by the week, the Colts won nine straight games to secure a wild-card berth and a meeting Saturday night with San Diego.

MVP-Type Numbers
While Peyton Manning's 2004 season was one of the all-time best, his performance this year compares favorably statistically to 2003, when he shared the MVP award with Steve McNair.

Peyton Manning, MVP Seasons
Category 2003 2004 2008
Team W-L 12-4 12-4 12-4
Comp. Pct. 67.0 67.7 66.8
Pass yds 4,267 4,557 4,002
TD-Int 29-10 49-10 27-12
Rating 99.0 121.1 95.0

In that streak, Manning is 209-of-290 for 2,248 yards and 17 touchdowns, with only three interceptions. He extended his NFL record with his ninth 4,000-yard season and finished with 27 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions and a 95.0 passer rating.

"In other years, everything started fast," Colts running back Dominic Rhodes said. "He's still breaking records. But this year, there were a bunch of negative things said in the beginning, and he brought his best when we needed his best. This is probably the best ball I've seen him play."

The folks in Indianapolis might take for granted having Manning behind center, just as Packers and now Jets fans have assumed Favre would be there every week. Favre has started 269 straight regular-season games, the record for quarterbacks. Manning's string is 176 -- every game since he was the No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft.

The Mannings, of course, are the first family of NFL quarterbacking, from father Archie to Peyton to younger brother Eli of the New York Giants.

"To be able to come back and play the way he has, especially the last nine or 10 weeks where they have been winning and getting into the playoffs, I'm very proud of him and the season he has had," said Eli Manning, the MVP of February's Super Bowl.

Also in 2007, Moss set a record with 16 touchdowns in his first 10 games with a new team.
On December 29, 2007, he set the NFL record for most touchdown receptions in a regular season, with 23. The record was previously held by Jerry Rice who scored 22 touchdowns in a 12 game strike season.

With the next pick in the draft, RBA selects...

Mario Williams

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6574/340xjcz.jpg

On October 1st, 2006, Williams recorded his first sack and a half against the Miami Dolphins' Daunte Culpepper in the Texans first win of the season 17-15. Three weeks later, Williams sacked Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich and recovered a fumble in the Texans 27-7 upset. In the 2006 season, Williams accumulated 47 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

Early in the 2007 season, Williams played well, with an outstanding performance in the first game of his sophomore season. The defensive end had five tackles, two sacks, and returned a fumble by Chief's fullback Kris Wilson for a touchdown. He had particularly big games against the Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans, sacking Jay Cutler 3.5 times and Vince Young 2.5 times in one game each. He also had his first sack against Peyton Manning in 2007.[12] Before the game Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy compared Williams to Colts Pro Bowl Defensive End Dwight Freeney.[8] He finished the season with 59 total tackles and 14 sacks.

The 2007 season was a year that Williams answered many of the critics that he gained because of his lofty Number 1 draft pick status.[13] In 2007 year, through 15 games, he accounted for 48 percent of his teams sacks, a higher percentage than any other player.[13] Williams was a second-team All-Pro selection by the Associated Press, however, he was not elected to the Pro Bowl but was voted an alternate to the game. [14]

In 2008, Williams continued to prosper, amassing 12 sacks and 53 tackles in 15 games (all starts). This effort included three sacks and one forced fumble in the Texans' first ever Monday Night Football game on December 1, 2008. For his efforts, Williams was selected for his first Pro Bowl as a starter.

The 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year just had one of the sickest defensive performances in NFL history from start to finish. The linebacker, who had a career-high 16 sacks to set a team record and led the NFL with a career-high seven forced fumbles, beat Dallas' DeMarcus Ware in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters announced Monday. Pittsburgh was the league's stingiest in total defense, pass defense and points allowed. Harrison was its main hammer. The Steelers didn't allow a 100-yard rusher or 300-yard passer in 2008. Harrison didn't limit his work to that stingy unit, though: Harrison also had 12 special teams tackles.

During Super Bowl XLIII, Harrison intercepted a pass from Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner at the goal line and ran back the length of the field for a 100-yard touchdown at the end of the first half. It was the longest play in Super Bowl history (surpassing Desmond Howard's 99-yard kickoff return in Super Bowl XXXI) and helped the Steelers defeat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23.

Before the game, Gregg Easterbrook (author of Tuesday Morning Quarterback from Page 2 on ESPN.com) named Harrison the 2008 Tuesday Morning Quarterback Non-QB Non-RB NFL MVP.

http://www.blogcdn.com/nfl.fanhouse.com/media/2008/09/joey-porter.jpg

The 2008-2009 season saw a rejuvenated Joey Porter return to his old indomitable form, leading the AFC and finishing second in the NFL with a career-high 17.5 sacks; thus, Porter played an integral role in metamorphosing the 1-15 Dolphins of 2007-2008 into a 11-5 AFC East Champion football team. Porter has since been rewarded for his strong play and award-worthy revival by earning his fourth Pro Bowl and was named 2nd Team All-Pro.

T3. TOMMIE HARRIS
Defensive tackle, Chicago Bears, 2004-present

About him: Harris is one of the most active and disruptive interior linemen in the game, attributes which have earned him Pro Bowl nods the last three years. Though he has 19.5 sacks in his career, Harris' ability to stop the run is the key element to his game. In fact, the season-ending injury he suffered in 2006 may very well have cost the Bears a Super Bowl title ... and maybe even a Defensive Player of the Year award for Harris.

Notable stats: Without Harris in the lineup, the Bears surrendered nearly 125 rushing yards per game during the 2006 playoffs, including 191 to the Colts in their Super Bowl XLI loss.

Michael Roos, LT, Tennessee Titans

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2009/01/09/2008611594.jpg

Gave up only 1 sack all year despite protecting a immobile quarterback and facing some of the best defensive ends in the NFL like Mario Williams 2x, Jared Allen, Haloti Ngata 2x, Dwight Freeney 2x, Aaron Smith.

Roos has started every game in four seasons as a Titan after earning NCAA Football Championship Subdivision All-America honors and Lineman of the Year accolades as an Eagle senior in 2004. Recently, Paul Zimmerman from Sports Illustrated selected Roos to his mid-season All-Pro team.

The 6-foot-7, 315 pound Roos is part of an offensive line that has allowed an NFL-low eight sacks in 2008. He has played a key role in opening holes for the league’s fifth-ranked rushing attack that features Pro Bowler Chris Johnson (1,159 yards, 8 TDs) and LenDale White (700 yards), who is tied for second in the league with 14 rushing touchdowns.

Roos, a second-round pick out of Eastern Washington in 2005, has started 62 consecutive regular season games at tackle for the Titans. He played a key role in Tennessee’s franchise-record 332 rushing yards in Week 7 at Kansas City.

Including 35 starts to end his EWU career, Roos enters Tennessee's pivotal home game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 21 having made 114 consecutive starts as an offensive tackle. His last 79 starts have come as a Titan (one AFC playoff game, 62 regular season games and 16 pre-season contests).

Brian Dawkins

Philadelphia Eagles

Dawkins was drafted in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. As a rookie in 1996 he started 13 of the 14 games he played in, recording 75 tackles, a sack, and three interceptions. During his career Dawkins has been elected to seven Pro Bowls in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008. In 2002 in a game versus the Houston Texans he became the first player in NFL history to record a sack, an interception, forced fumble, and touchdown reception in a single game. During the 2008 season he became the tenth member of the 20/20 Club and broke the Eagles record for games played surpassing Harold Carmichael who had 180. After the 2008 season Dawkins became a free agent. He finished his career with the Eagles starting 182 of 183 games, recording 898 tackles, 34 interceptions, and 21 sacks.

Denver Broncos

Dawkins was signed by the Denver Broncos on February 28, 2009. The contract is worth 5 years and $17 million with $7.2 million guaranteed. There is a termination clause after 2 years that says that if he is released after two seasons, he will receive an additional $1.8 million.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Denver Broncos

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-11/20/xin_272110420154982827421.jpg

Marshall is known for his ability to break and dodge tackles. He led all NFL wide receivers in yards after first contact for the 2007 NFL season. Regarding Marshall's breakaway ability, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said, "Brandon Marshall is a defensive lineman playing wide receiver. He wants to inflict punishment on you. He wants you to try to tackle him so he can shove you off of him and get more yards." Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said Marshall is "the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one."

Marshall finished the season ranked third among NFL wide receivers in receptions (104), seventh in receiving yards (1,265), fifth in receiving yards per game (84.3), seventh in yards after the catch (419), third in catches that led to first downs (65) and first in number of times targeted for the second consecutive season (181).[34] The 104 catches were a career-high for Marshall and also made him only the ninth player in NFL history (second Broncos player) to have at least 100 receptions in back-to-back seasons.[35] He finished first in fan voting for AFC wide receivers in the 2009 Pro Bowl.[36] He received 18 more votes than Randy Moss to proclaim the top spot.

Records and milestones
Most receptions spanning five games in NFL history (55).[2]
Only player in NFL history to have at least 10 receptions in four out of five games.[2][28]
Second-most catches in an NFL game (18).[27]
Caught 102 passes in 2007 (second-career NFL season), becoming only the third second-year player in NFL history to have at least 100 receptions in a season.[15]

One of the most underrated, dominating players that doesnt get his due because of the position he plays in the 3-4. Constantly attracting double teams he has opened up the pass-rush for linebackers like Porter and Harrison to do there thing in the past and is the key cog in the Pittsburgh Steelers run defense that is constantly one of the best in the league. Pittsburgh allowed only 80.3 rushing yards per game during the regular season and did not allow a 100 yard rusher all year.

James Farrior, ILB, Pittsburgh Steelers

http://www.post-gazette.com/images3/20060123pd_farrior_pitchPJ_450.jpg

When you talk about Pittsburgh's linebackers, you'll hear about James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley, because people love them some sacks. But Farrior is the engine that makes that defense go. In 2008, he allowed 2.6 yards per rushing play, had 64 successful run stops among 85 total attempts, and tied with Ray Lewis for the most total Defeats (plays in which an offensive player is stopped short of a first down on third or fourth down, is stopped behind the line of scrimmage, fumbles, or throws an interception).

Despite being on the wrong side of 30, he's a force against the run and pass. Having Casey Hampton in front of him ensures that he can flow from sideline to sideline without getting picked up by blockers trying to get to the second level. Farrior can defend the pass but he's better in a zone than covering backs or tight ends man to man. Being able to keep his face to the quarterback though does allow him to read the QB's eyes and break up some passes. Farrior's no stranger to the blitz either and he's got the size to run over backs who get in his way.

Portis Highlights

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GNPmwhQZy8

One of the most reliable running backs in the league. Was the best runner in the 1st half of 2008 but injuries held him back although it didnt keep him out of a game. The best pass-blocking RB in the league he has helped keep Campbell clean. Does all this without a average at best offensive line.

In 2008, Portis fell just short of what would have been his fourth 1500 yard rushing season in seven years, finishing with 1487 yards and an average of 4.3 yards per carry. His season was highlighted by a five week stretch in which Portis gained nearly 700 yards, ending in an October 26 victory over the Detroit Lions. During this span Clinton Portis joined O.J. Simpson as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 120 yards in five consecutive games twice in a career (Portis first did it over two seasons with four games with Denver in 2003 and one game with Washington in 2004). Portis led the NFL in rushing as late as November 23 before nagging injuries and limited playing time slowed him down; he gained only 281 yards in his final five games as the Redskins lost four of five to miss the playoffs.

One of the most durable, consistent cornerbacks around who is vastly underrated. Doesnt get the interceptions but is rated by most Eagles fans to be better than Samuel. 2x Pro Bowl selection (2007, 2008)
1x All-Pro (2008, second team)

"San Diego Chargers
Dielman went undrafted out of college, but signed on with the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers converted him from a defensive tackle to an offensive lineman, and before long Dielman had established himself as a starter at left guard. Right away Dielman made a name for himself in large part due to his gritty, hard-nosed, oldschool style of play on the offensive line. By the his fourth year in the league Dielman was a rising star and an integral part of LaDainian Tomlinson's record breaking 2006 season. Dielman's teammates referred to him as their "enforcer" and "battering ram". Dielman was chosen as a 1st Alternate for the 2007 Pro Bowl.
In the off-season the Seattle Seahawks offered him a large contract worth 48.2 million but he returned to San Diego to sign a six year deal with the Chargers that guarantees him 17 million over the first two years and is potentially worth 39 million, becoming one of the highest paid guards in the NFL.
In an interview with USA Today's Jim Corbett, Charger general manager AJ Smith remarked, "He's a special kid. The loyalty he showed is very, very rare. I knew if he could just be paid like a premier guard, he would stay with us because of who he is. Seattle was legitimate, and he didn't want any part of it."

Karlos Dansby, MLB/OLB, Arizona Cardinals.

http://www.vortexsportsgroup.com/osc/catalog/images/dansbyarmsinair.jpg

Dansby is the 'do-it-all' guy for the Cardinals defense. He's tough enough and strong enough to be very solid against the run and he's athletic enough to make plays sideline to sideline on sweeps and screens. Dansby's best attribute though might be his ability to drop back into coverage and run with backs and tight ends. He's also an above average pass rusher for a middle linebacker and he's got the athleticism to get around backs trying to protect their quarterback.

A young stud who has improved every year of his career. Injuries were a concern in the past but this past season he played in all 16 games and helped the Cardinals make the Super Bowl where he had 8 tackles, 1 int, and 1 pass deflection. One of the best playmakers at the ILB in the NFL.

After the 2002 Seattle Seahawks season he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft. His impact in the NFL has been felt, as many quarterbacks avoid trying to throw in Marcus Trufant's area. Coming from Tacoma and graduating from Washington State University, Trufant is considered a hometown favorite. In 2007 Trufant played a big part in the Seahawks defense, intercepting a career high 7 passes and returning one for an 84 yard touchdown. He also deflected 15 passes and made 85 tackles, and was voted into the 2008 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. On February 21, 2008 the Seahawks placed their franchise tag on Trufant, tendering him with a one year $9.465 million deal.

On March 26, 2008 the Seahawks signed Trufant to a new six-year, $50.2 million deal with a $10 million signing bonus. In the 2008 season, Marcus Trufant had high expectations. Teams rarely challenged him and had a good season. He finished the season with 64 tackles and 1 interception.

The club record was set in 1989 by middle linebacker Eugene Lockhart at 222. This was the fourth consecutive year James has led the Cowboys in tackles.

2008 Impact: The inside linebacker on the strong side should lead a 3-4 defense in tackles, but for the first time in his six-year career, James became more than just a run-stopper. Playing more on the team's nickel defense, James recorded a career-high eight sacks, more than the 5

Might just be the most underrated defensive player in the league. Oshiomogho was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the third round (66th overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft. In his rookie year he played in 12 games, finishing the year with 11 tackles, one sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. The following season, he finished the campaign with 72 tackles and three interceptions. In the 2007 season, Atogwe had a team and NFC high 8 interceptions along with 75 tackles and one touchdown. Atogwe is one of the rising players in the NFL at the free safety position and in the 2008 season he recorded 5 interceptions to lead the Rams once again.

The 2007 and 08' seasons were ones to forget for the Rams, but for Atogwe, they were seasons to remember. In 2007, Atogwe led the NFC in interceptions with eight. He followed his spectacular 07' season with a tremendous 08' campaign. When you have five interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three recovered fumbles to go along with 85 tackles, I'd say that is a very solid season.

A young, athletic safety with a knack for making plays, Quintin Mikell had an All-Pro year in his first full season as the starting strong safety in 2008. Mikell led the team in tackles with 93, teaming up with Brian Dawkins to make one of the most imposing safety tandems in the league. Said CB Sheldon Brown of Mikell: "He's a beast. He's an animal. He's just an old-school football player. He'll have a bloody nose, bloody mouth, you're going to look at him and he's going to line up again and bring it." One of six rookie free agents to make the opening day roster in 2003, Mikell has posted a team-leading 126 special teams tackles during that time span and was voted the Eagles special teams MVP in 2005 and 2006. Mikell earned a four-year contract on 2/27/07 that will keep him in Philadelphia through 2010.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Arizona Cardinals

http://www.nancarrow-webdesk.com/warehouse/storage2/2009-w01/img.451115_t.jpg

Guarantee before start of last season: (He ended up with 6 interceptions)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IMLwsAKA84

A first round draft pick who came on like gangbusters at mid-season to become the Cardinals most prolific threat at CB since Aeneas Williams. One of the most gifted athletes in the NFL, DRC combines excellent height with blazing 4.26 speed, rare acceleration and a nose for the ball. Was particularly adept at making the big play at key times, like his fourth quarter interception to seal a rare win in Seattle and the textbook bait and swoop interception in the playoffs at Carolina...in the same game where he basically shut down Steve Smith, one of the NFL's elite WRs.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green knows a great cover cornerback when he sees one, and he thinks he sees one wearing No. 29 for the Arizona Cardinals.

As endorsements go, this one trumps anything the Cardinals or anyone else might offer for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the player Arizona coaches and players call "DRC."

"I think he's going to be one of the great ones for a long time," Green said by phone Wednesday.

He is eager to learn," said Ralph Brown, the Cardinals' veteran nickel corner. "You see the phenomenal things he is doing now, you put one, two, three years under his belt, he is a Pro Bowl corner. He is Pro Bowl-caliber now, I think."

To the point that the Cardinals' Pro Bowl receivers, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, sometimes have trouble against him in practice.

"Larry sometimes has a hard time with Dominique because Dominique can jump just as high as Larry can and there are not too many corners who can jump as high as he can," Brown said. "He is rangy. He can run as fast as anyone on the field and he can jump as high or as far as anyone. It's awesome to watch him as a rookie coming out of a small school. He has the confidence that no one can catch this ball."

[QUOTE]Over his last eight regular season games Rodgers-Cromartie played lights out. Let

Shoudl compliment Portis perfectly while giving Peyton another threat in the passing game. Was one of the best big play running backs in the league last year. Harris was drafted by the Denver Broncos as a 3rd round pick (70th overall) in the 2007 NFL draft.[1] In the 2008 season, Harris only allowed 1.5 sacks on QB Jay Cutler.

In September, I stood with then Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, watching his team practice. The Denver offense was hot, and I said to Shanahan I'd heard a lot of good things about his second-year right tackle, Ryan Harris. "Nobody knows who he is yet,'' said Shanahan, "and I kind of like it that way. But he's the best [right tackle] I've had here -- quick, and you can't move him.''

[QUOTE]William Stephen Belichick (born April 16, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee) is the American football head coach for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. After spending his first 15 seasons in the league as an assistant coach, Belichick got his first head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns in 1991. Of his five seasons coaching Cleveland, only one featured a winning record, and Belichick did not serve as head coach again until 2000 with the Patriots. David Stewert, RT, Tennessee Titans

The 2nd best right tackle in the league teamed up with Micheal Roos to form the best tackle duo in the NFL.

I'll take one of the most underrated safeties in the league the league Yeremiah Bell. This guy is one of the hardest hitters in the NFL and led a stout Dolphins defense in tackles in 08.

I'll take one of the biggest maulers in the league Jason Gaither. This beast is 6'9'' 350 and one of the best young tackles in the NFL. He is the starting left tackle of the Ravens and was a huge reason why Flacco had a good rookie year and why 3 running backs were able to have success.

With the 101st pick in the ISH NFL Mock Draft, Statman32 selects...

Bernard Berrian, WR, Minnesota Vikings

Perfect fit on my team as he will compliment Ward/Marshall very well as the speed guy on the outside. Was 2nd in the NFL last year in yards per catch as he caught 7 touchdowns and totaled 964 yards with horrible quarterbacks.

On November 30, 2008, in a game against the Chicago Bears, Berrian caught a 99-yard touchdown pass from Gus Frerotte, tying an NFL record for the longest pass from scrimmage.
