I knew he had cancer, but I wasn't aware of how bad it was. This is a shame.

A truely great coach.

Man. That was really out of the blue for me. This was just a month or two after he was diagnosed, right? Sad to see him go. Had a neighbor who also died of pancreatic cancer. Nearly everyone in the village was there. But anyway, cheers to Coach Chuck and his work. Hope you're enjoying up there. :applause:

Which coach was wearing a CD pin on his suit in the playoffs? I forgot. Or was it Doug Collins?

they all were (except phil jackson game 2 and 3 of the utah series, don't know why not) as were all of the media guys from nbatv/tnt/espn and probably beyond that as well, my question is do they stop wearing it now that he's dead?

Unfortunately, this was expected, with his condition. When I learned about his disease, I expected him to last about 1 year more, but at this age, even this is tough.

RIP to one of the 10 greatest NBA coaches ever.

Why are people acting like this is surprising?
He was gonna kick the bucket sometime during the Playoffs which is why everyone wore those pins for him.

RIP Coach

One of the greatest coaches EVER.

How he blended the personalities on that Pistons team is beyond me.

His teams were great during the era of Bird, Magic and Jordan.

I smile when I think of those late 80s battles between the Pistons/Celtics, Pistons/Bulls. Legendary stuff.

He won't be forgotten. He coached real basketball. A physical brand of basketball. Better than the weak stuff Stern wants these days.

This hurts. I feel like I grew up with Coach Daly. :ohwell: This is just another reminder that these guys I've been watching coach and perform are human just like us. I remember a lot of older guys told me Wilt Chamberlain's death affected them the same way.

R.I.P Coach :(

R.I.P. Chuck

When I was much younger, my mother was friends with Chuck's daughter, her name was Sidney I think, and I had met him on a couple of occasions and he was one of the nicest guys ever. Now looking back, it seems amazing that he could transition from the loving father/grandfather type to the architect of the Bad Boys. :oldlol:

And R.I.P. to Bill Davidson also.

R.I.P to this coaching legend. He implemented the Jordan rules, knocked Jordan and the Bulls out of the playoffs three straight years(88'-'90), winning two championships in the process.

It's funny how the mid to late 80s era of sports was all about being a tough guy, or going beyond the norm. the NBA had a "Newness" to it that hasn't been duplicated since, and those Pistons teams were right in the thick of it.

I remember being a Magic/Lakers fan, and watching Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and Vinnie Johnson go on shooting sprees where they couldn't miss if they tried, all while holding other teams to 80-90 points (that was HUGE in an era of 120 point games ok?).

Anyway, like everyone's been saying, thanks for being a pivotal part of my teen years Chuck (amazing how Chuck's the only coach who "looked" like the style of ball that he coached lol).
