I think it's Jason Kapono. Have never seen him dunk and doesn't seem like he could get up there really...

He can dunk. I've seen him do it in warm up. It wasn't much of dunk, but it didn't look like a huge effort.
Hell Jose threw down two in games dunks this year, and I had never seen him do one before that, so you can never really write a guy off unless they flat out state they cannot.

No way? I've been dying to see Kapono dunk. Warmups, game anything. Damn I missed out. I got the idea when I saw Barea with that layup. I hate Barea...

@ Kapano's draft workout he had a 8'6'' standing reach with a 30'' vertical, standing vertical of 24''.

edit: i hate how my entire life, my standing vertical has always been the same as my one, two or n step vertical....

Zach Randolph can barely dunk. It was funny, when he was on the knicks, the bench went crazy when he dunked it.

Nash has stated he can dunk, but only with a volleyball.
Ridnour actually had a pretty good vert if I recall correctly, so i'd be suprised if he couldn't.

Kapono can definitely dunk. I'd say anyone who couldnt dunk would be 6'2 player and below. If you are 6'4 +, its very easy to dunk and with the training they do it would be even easier.

If I can dunk when I'm in good shape at 5'11, Barea(who unlike me, is a supremely conditioned professional athlete) can do it at 6'0.

Jordandunk23

imo, if your 6'0 and your in NBA (obviously you a little bit of athleticism  ), you should be able to dunk.. and those players below 6'0 are usually freakishly athletic anyway...

There are many supremely conditioned professional athletes who just dont have the genetics to leap high.

He's listed at 6'. I supposed I've never measured myself in shoes, so maybe I'm actually taller in my basketball sneakers.

The point I was trying to make is that while there are lazy, fat, or unathletic guys in the NBA, not one of them is under 6'5. Guys like Barea have to be in an amazing shape just to stay in the league.

Anyone below 6 foot who can dunk a 10 foot basket with a full size ball is a very talented leaper - well above average.

Unless you are black.

It has nothing to do with genetics when you're six feet tall. A six foot tall NBA player who is in really good physical condition AND who's willing to invest time into his vertical leap can dunk. Period. Else you couldn't be in the NBA.

my comment wasnt limited to nba players. I personally know at least 10 athletes that are 6 foot, 6'1, 6'2. They are supreme athletes. But genetically they are not leapers, nor necessarily fast. They are stocky, super strong and can run all day. Super fit individuals.

As I said, there are no guys like that in the NBA. If you're around 6 feet and playing in the NBA, you've got quickness. Else you'd be getting slaughtered because you couldn't guard the Devin Harrises and Tony Parkers of the league.

Well, jumping is something you have to train for. Distance runners, for example, are in great shape but can't jump worth crap. Some people are naturally better at jumping than others, but if you aren't genetically gifted, jumping isn't something you can't work on

I know I read in SI that Steve Kerr couldn't dunk...

^ I feel the same.

These guys are proffesional athletes who spend a lot of time training their conditioning, running and jumping. they have the drive to be great, that's why they are in the league. As a kid every basketball lover wants to dunk (right?). So eventhough some of these smaller guys never dunked in the league they probably did it when they were younger...

I love how people sometimes state that size in the NBA is over rated and does not count for much, then go on to list small dudes who are unquestionably athletic freaks. Like, I don't know, pick a random guy. People like to say John Stockton was not athletic or Steve Nash is not. But they play/ed in the NBA beside people like MJ, Kevin Johnson and AI. If either of them showed up at the local Y one night their athletic prowess would hold everyone in awe. And for sure, there are some athletic players at some local YMCA's. The NBA is just in another stratosphere even when compared in relation to most other pro sports.

at 1:23 minutes and 2:50 minutes

Kirk failed to dunk basic dunks, he wasn't even high enough. You can tell he wasn't warm that day. Even with all the ounces of adrenaline flowing in his blood he should be able to dunk easily and he couldn't. That why he probably can't dunk consistently by himself or after a hard day of practice.

also check out LeBRon James 3:53 minutes pause it HEAD OVER RIM

KKittles30
05-14-2009, 12:03 PM
I still don't get why it's so amazing for someone who is 6'8" to get his head above or near the rim?

He's 80" tall the rim is 120" so all he needs is a 40" vert which by LeBron standards you know he exceeds. I'd actually be worried if he couldn't do it.

I mean even Dwight Howard's dunk was boring. he's 7'0" with possibly 3' to 2.5' arm length that makes him already at 9'.5" so all he needed was a minimum of about 30" and some change and he can slap the backboard and to dunk while doing that given his arm length it shouldn't have been hard. Creative yes, succeeded yes, amazing hardly.

Now if Nate Robinson had done it that would've been mind blowing!
He is 68" at least 50" vertical to have head at rim at the very least. and to reach 12'6" would be even more remarkable and plus to pull that off dunk given his short wingspan would be truly amazing.

at 6'3 hinrich could throw some nice ones down. Now older and dealing through injuries it is harder for him to throw it down. Hinrich in high school was probably his athletic prime.
