View Full Version : Do you have health insurance?

Proposal would require all to have health coverage

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090514/ap_on_go_co/us_health_overhaul

House Democrats are crafting a plan that would require all Americans to carry health insurance and would help families making less than $88,000 pay the premiums. Employers, too, would have to help foot the bill.

If this isn't socialism, I don't know what is.

Insurers are strongly opposed to a government-sponsored plan, saying it would drive them out of business.

Yep... and that prolly what's gonna happen.

Look, I pay a $hit load for health insurance because I have two kids... And I'd love to have cheaper coverage...

But this just smells like some Bull $hit.

lol why would you think thats so bad if you aren't getting covered from working for some big company like the other Republican dickheads against national healthcare? If you are paying for a family plan with 2 kids, its very likely whatever the Democrats push will benefit you more than now.

Tons of people don't have health insurance in our country. Its a huge profit for all types of health insurers, meaning they are making much more from inflated pricing and plans for selfish greedy motivations more than whats best for the American people as a whole. Its kind of like Wallstreet where they are looking out for their wallets, more than whats best for the country, but being able to see a doctor and be covered when you're ill is far more important.

We aren't and never will be a socialist society. Look up the definition of socialism. We are at least 95% capitalist, leaning a little further to national healthcare doesn't make us anywhere near a socialist country, and we never will be. Its like saying Oh no you are going to die, every time you cut your finger :ohwell:

Btw if you think $200/month individual plans are acceptable and practical to everyone in this country, then you're dumb. Thats why people fore go health insurance...

But it puts Governmnet in control of the entire Health Care System. If you trust the government... Then it's a great idea. I don't like the fact that you will now be dealing with the Government instead of a insurance company... But maybe that's the way that it's suppose to be.

And no... I pay like $600 a month for the entire family for coverage and it sucks,

The real problem is Immigration... because here in Texas immigrants are flooding the hospitals and pay absolutley nothing.

They might have to stay in the waiting room for 24 hours... but they don't care as long as it's free.

Lets say he's a 30 year old graduate research assistant in the Forestry Department at UK. He has a 17.5K yearly stipend 450 dollar rent, 40 dollar cable/internet, 330 car insurance per year, 20 dollar a month electric, 25 a month water, 30 a month gas...he also has to eat, pay for gas, and he doesn't even have kids.

That guy can't afford health insurance. There are millions more just like that guy who have a family on top of it.

Listen, you're a jackass. Tens of millions of hard working americans of all age and color do not have health insurance because they can't afford it, not because they're buying lottery tickets you idiot.

actually i was gonna clown you for being 30 years old and being a "forestry research assistant" and i was gonna tell you that if you wanna play Walden and not do anything for the money, then dont expect anyone else to give you free med insurance that they pay for.

Surely someone who values pragmatism so highly would find more utility in establishing solid work experience with better opportunities in your desired career field. On the contrary, I do need the money. My rent is 1,145 a month. I'm not gonna borrow that much from my parents every month. THey have their own expenses. They arent millionaires.

I can handle working and pursuing other opportunities at the same time. I am very dynamic. I am a rising star lol. Also, I am not a republican so there would be no reason for me to run on the GOP ticket. But eventually I will run for some office and win. Because I am that good.

I'm convincing enough as it is without even trying to play to my audience. Here I dont care who sides with me. When I combine my ideas with actually trying to be tactful? Forget about it. I'm gonna be a revolution.

I just have to get started. I've been out here a relatively short time and am procrstinating a little bit because theres really no hurry. I cant win anything at 24 anyways (most likely). But in time I'll be eventually making the decisions that affect you.

House Democrats are crafting a plan that would require all Americans to carry health insurance and would help families making less than $88,000 pay the premiums

Perfect, my household makes a little less than $40,000 a year, I need all the help I can get.

I'm fortunate to be at a company that still pays full insurance. There aren't a lot left out there. Now we knowingly make a little less than other comparable companies, but the fact is that the insurance premiums go up faster than raises do at other places, so it's still a win. We don't have dental, although I believe we can buy into it if we want. And I do pay another 2 bucks a week for a supplemental insurance, like an Aflac, that covers some things that the regular health insurance won't, like pay during time off for recouperation, which I used for two weeks, one each for each of my knee surgeries. It wasn't much, but it helped.
We're a small shop, and work in the office, so I wear a lot of hats, and going over the insurance buy every couple years is one of the things I get asked to help with sometimes, and I can tell you that the rate the insurance increases is criminal. I lean to the right politically, and generally fall into the free market ideal, but this is something that should be regulated.

I work for an insurance company .. and the problem is that the health care system and insurance companies work together.

If I were to pay cash to my dentist it would cost 10% more money , so it is cheaper to use insurance...

make sense :confusedshrug:

Problem is esculating costs , will be like a hurricane... 5-15 years we won't be able to afford insurance costs because of the liability issues

Why do you think the goverment is stepping in ???

Eventually state by state insurance codes will all be dictated by the fed
s ... which means a unified system

Lets hope it will be cheaper.

Very dependent on the industry. In professions that are highly specialized or require specific skills, it's much more expensive to find and train a new employee than it is to retain a good one.
