I'm talking about players from the NFL, MLB, maybe even NHL, that can dunk a basketball on a 10 foot rim

right now all i can think of is Owens. But i'm guessing most NFL wide recievers can because of their leaping ability

Julius Peppers and Antonio Gates both played college ball. Derek Lee (Cubs) was recruited by UNC to play as well. Those are the 1st to come to mind

You know the Big Unit can based on height alone.

If you are of decent height, keep your body in good shape, have good genetics (or both)....you will be able to dunk. I'm willing to bet most WR can/could dunk. Actually, pretty much any football player that lifts and has a 30+ vert can dunk, assuming you know how to jump and control your body in the air....isn't really that hard.

That being said, TO can throw down pretty easy and I have heard Randy Moss can too...

I have always wanted to know if Tiger Woods can dunk. He is 6'1" which is a little on the short side for dunking unless he has big hops.

Not NFL or MLB but:

Volleyball players(in particular the front line players) should easily be able to dunk. They're on average around 6'6, 6'7 with ridiculous verticals.

Apparently, in one article I read, weightlifters (Olympic not the bodybuilding) tend to have crazy verticals as well. Although due to height and length of arms I'm not sure if many can dunk though.

Check the combine numbers of almost any WR or DB...even the 5'10 guys could likely throw it down.

Almost any high level Volleyball player could dunk with ease.

Any jumping track athlete and many of the sprinters.

In general it's is not that hard for a world class athlete of decent height dunk on a 10' hoop.

I'm guessing the avg height of a MLB player ranges from 5'10-6'2.

I'm sure MOST can dunk, or at least jump high enough to do so.

Again.... dunking isn't hard, specially for pro athletes. The only problem might be their hands not being able to palm the ball, but I'm sure they jump high enough to dunk for the most part.

I've seen Barry Sanders dunk too, but with a running start, never seen the flatfooted one. Thats amazing considering he was only around 5'8".

I could dunk & in High School(barely) & I knew several who may shorter than I (5'11)who could do it.

What's the big deal?:confusedshrug: Most NBA players have no better verticals than other athletes. Their HEIGHT(reach) set them apart from everyone else.

Agreed.

There 'pure' verticals are far better than the average NBA player 'm sure . They just don't have the height or reach of the lanky NBA players.

Dunking is so mundane/overhyped.

In the words of Oscar Robertson 'It's just two points'.

Exactly. I said before if lilojmayo can dunk. Every professional athlete playing ( baseball, basketball, football, volleyball) 5'9 or over can dunk with ease ( in there athletic primes). There is just too much knownledge on increasing your vertical with plyos and strength training for them not to be able to.

I cannot vie for Sanders and Harper, though I don't doubt their leaping skills. However, if anyone is interested, I believe NBA Super Slams Vol. 1 had a small segment showing the likes of Ken Griffey Jr. and Deion Sanders participating in what appears to be a celebrity dunk contest. Also in Super Slams, I think it is Mike Conley Sr. who dunks from a step inside the free throw line with two hands (and hangs on the rim). I would assume these clips might be somewhere on youtube as well.

That pissed me off so much. Barry basically wanted to play for a contender or just retire. Lions just didn't want to anything. At least trade the guy to a contender if your'e not going to make the team better.

Barry Sanders is the greatest football player of all time and he didnt even have a bad year. Yet the lions still couldnt get a good team around him?
Sports Illustrated writer Paul Zimmerman wrote:

"It doesn't matter where the play is blocked; he'll find his own soft spot...The scheme doesn't matter with Sanders. He can run from any alignment. While other people are stuck with joints, he seems to have ball bearings in his legs that give him a mechanical advantage...Sanders' finest runs often occur when he takes the handoff and, with a couple of moves, turns the line of scrimmage into a broken field...Nobody has ever created such turmoil at the point of attack as Sanders has...Knock on wood, he seems indestructible..."

Obviously, the jumping from the FT line is impressive, but then he was a triple-jumper. The dunk where he cradles the ball and then does a wind-mill like thing at 0:27 is sick, though. Especially when you consider a dunk like that in the NBA Dunk Contest was a 50 16-17 years ago.

Just as a follow-up to my post about Shaun Rogers being able to dunk, here is a pretty good article about Rogers' incredible feat.

He is 6-foot-4, 400 pounds.... and dunks.

They also showed clips of him dunking during one of the Browns' pregames this past year.

Conley Sr. is wack, yo. I'd hate to play him in a pick up game. He'd just pick up his dribble at the 3PT line, take two massive steps, and throw it down.
