Slowbro is all about the Amnesia, if you don't recognize that as one of the 3 or 4 top moves from the original games then you have no credibility. Exeggutor, on the other hand, is the only Pokemon outside of the Gengar evolved forms with the Sleep/Dream Eater combination (Sleep Powder instead of Hypnosis too, a more accurate move no less). Its combination of Grass/Psychic also provides it a unique combination of types that is resistant to many special attacks.

Exeggutor also has the most weakness to different types of Pokemon in the game. Amnesia raises a Pokemon sp defense 2 levels which is Aight, but facing a fighting type pokemon it would be of little use. Sleep/Dream Eater combo is pretty legit though, my favorite combo is Curse/Painsplit I, you lose 50% of your HP with curse but then the opponent loses 25% of their HP each turn, and then with Painsplit you can get back 12.5% of the health lost with Curse (assuming the the pokemon had the same starting HP)

We're talking about original RBY, which combined special defense and attack into one. Amnesia raised both 2 levels in one move. That's quite a big difference you're overlooking here. Curse wasn't introduced back then either

Yes Tian obviously has the best team. You guys surely have forgotten how to play this game. Mewtwo alone can straight up rape entire teams...almost every team that was chosen here. Alakazam and Kadabra can match up with Mewtwo?? Haha...last I checked Alakazam only has psychic attacks which Mewtwo is resistant to and also have a high special stat against them. I dunno whether you allow TMs here as you can easily teach Mewtwo hyper beam and he will have a strong normal attack against the psychics. Mewtwo has a pretty high attack stat too so he can outmuscle most psychs with normal attacks. My only issue is that Tian has picked so many psych pokemon that have weaknesses in other areas. You might be able to build a psych resistant team and target his other pokemon weaknesses...but I'm still putting all my money on him.
Vapid has the obvious second best team here, but he has nothing on Tian. Vapid has nothing that can take on Mewtwo.
Someone please set up RBY on an emulator and simulate all this. I'll place all my money on Tian.

Chansey thunder wave into Dragonite Wrap/Agility pretty much locks up Mewtwo and can beat most of Tian's team. Alakazam can sweep the rest: Fire/Ice Punch Executor, Thunder Punch Slowbro and Golduck, and Psychic for Jolteon. Snorlax gets pwned by Tauros or Aerodactyl.
Pinkhearts
03-31-2010, 10:52 AM
So your game plan to stop Mewtwo depends on Chansey? Haven't played pokemon for many years but I highly doubt your thunder wave into Dragonite Wrap/Agility is enough to stop him. Trust me I have been trying to find a Mewtwo stopper for years and have accepted him to be unstoppable. All it takes is a couple of failed paralysis and wraps and your Chansey is gone. Mewtwo just needs to hit you once to hurt you. And wrap doesn't do shit damage. Also what if Tian doesn't put Mewtwo on your Chansey? Chansey gets crushed easily by anybody else.
You aren't getting the matchups you want as Tian isn't Dumb enough to give them to you. Mewtwo and Snorlax will go up against your psychics. Golduck or snorlax and tank Dragonite abit and let Mewtwo finish the job. If I remember correctly snorlax is pretty strong and does not det pwned by Tauros or Aerodactyl. Oh well no use debating when we have not touched the game for years. Take out the game and play the matchup and I'll bet on Tian to win, as from my memory you need to have a Mewtwo against the other team's Mewtwo or you will be wiped out.
Other than Alakazam being a steal, I'd say your best pick is getting Aerodactyl. It's nice to have such a high damage dealer with such a low pick. Tian doesn't really have any other high damage dealers other than Mewtwo. Like I said he went a little too deep into his psychic mission.
vapid
03-31-2010, 11:13 AM
Well it doesn't really matter, I'll put a sweeper out first, probably Kadabra he's the most expendable but still can do super-effective damage to everyone on his team minus Mewtwo and Snorlax, and he can also paralyze Mewtwo/Snorlax. If his starting is Mewtwo I let Kadabra die and bring in Chansey, who can't be OHKO'ed by Mewtwo, and lightscreened is the best counter to Mewtwo in the game. Mewtwo is the only thing that has tian sniffing my level, and I had to make do with the best counters to him possible plus my other pokemon are all sweepers who can take out most of his other team by themselves.
tian820
03-31-2010, 11:16 AM
Your team is too weak against Ice and physical attacks based on the low defensive levels. I have no clue what Kadabra could do that's super effective against all my guns either? If we're assuming TM usage then Mewtwo would be even crazier because of its high special and recover

TM usage is essential of course. Thunder/Fire/Ice punche is one of the versatile ways I could utilize Kadabra along with thunderwave since he's faster than everyone on your team except Mewtwo and Jolteon. I was already addressing Mewtwo assuming you were using a build with TMs. It doesn't really matter if my team is weak to Ice, since it pretty much just depends if Mewtwo can be stopped. Blizzard and Icebeam only have 5 and 10 pp respectively and I can stall with Chansey to make you waste your pp.

If we're steroiding our stuff, then the PP Ups might as well come into effect as well. 15 PP combined is more than enough too. And then I've got other Water types that can learn those Ice type moves as well. The fact that Mewtwo could potentially take out half of anyone's team before falling is pretty much the biggest factor here. The combination of the high stats and recover make it tough to take down even if you do put it to sleep (not a factor on your team) or paralysis
Pinkhearts
03-31-2010, 11:28 AM
That's the thing...you can't stop his Mewtwo. Nothing can. Lightscreen will only slow down Chansey's eventual death. He can also switch out to something else to clean up your Chansey for free. It'll take you 3 pokemon at least to take out his Mewtwo, and it's not like his other picks are worthless.
But I agree that your picks are better than his in general. You just didn't have the chance to pick Mewtwo for yourself. If I were Tian I would have brought in Rhydon or Aerodactyl with his second pick. Another high stat destroyer will kill your team very quickly. Picking guys like Jolteon and Snorlax so early doesn't seem to be very smart. Electric pokemon are a dime a dozen and you can always teach other strong pokemon electric moves.

One punch doesn't take out his other Pokemon remember. Even if it's super effective. If it's down to Zam + Kadabra vs 5 of his other pokemon you're gone. Weak defense means a couple of strong hits will take down Zam.

Electric types were pretty much tiered by Jolteon and Zapdos and everything else didn't nearly have the supporting stats. Jolteon can take out multiple Pokemon on its own because of it's high special and top 1-2 speed (Alakazam isn't faster than Jolteon, no chance. Electrode might have a prayer though). I know when I used to play the game, my teams were always centered around Electric and Mewtwo because of the speed factor and the high special. With those 2, you pretty much cover all bases especially if you're considering TM usage. Mewtwo's amnesia + psychic or any other special move pretty makes him unstoppable. The special attack is off the charts at that point and with recover, there's no argument. Nothing's gonna take it out once amnesia supes it up

They won't get any hits in against Zam.

Really? We have to sim this and see. I highly doubt all his pokemon will die out with one punch by Zam. Especially snorlax who has high health and good normals to use on him. And Jolteon will definitely get in first hit.
As for Jolteon being a good pick, I certainly agree but 2nd pick is a little too high don't you think? You can pick so many other stronger options. I didn't know Zapdos was a popular pick as he has so many weaknesses. Oh well we really need to sim this!

Simming doesn't say much. Pokemon is a lot about prediction, and trying to guess what move your opponent will use next.

Play him straight up then. There's nothing much to predict when you know his first pokemon is Mewtwo and first move is Amnesia
