I believe that if Denver is to win this series they need to win this game. If the Lakers go up 2-0, the Nuggs would have to win 4 out of the next 5. I don't see that happening. Unfortunately, Denver already had a great chance to steal a game on the Lakers court and blew it. I'm not feeling confident.

I feel lazy today so I'll copy my post from the first game thread:

Unfortunately I have a feeling that Denver loses big tonight, and I know the Lakers will go on a run and George Karl will wait for the Lakers to get up by 14 before calling a time out instead of call in one early to try and stop there momentum, Karl is pathetic. For Denver to have a chance Carmelo has to get 30-35 points Billips 25-30 and Nene need about 20 plus 10 rebounds. But bottom line is Kobe will be Kobe and the Lakers are going to break there foot off in the Nuggets ass, and I'm going to break something in my house...DAM YOU KARL..DAM DAM DAM! :hammerhead: :rant

I don't like Karl, he is the weakest link on the Nuggets. Denver would have a better chance of beating the Lakers with some coach who actual makes in game adjustments instead of a bunch of rah rah let's go guys all the time. Denver has gotten into the playoffs the last few years on talent alone, and have know gotten to the west finals on talent and Chauncey Billups's leadership. A better coach and Denver wins 60+ games in the regular season and at least has a chance of beating the Lakers.

I hope Phil made good adjustments tonight. Lakers need to get Gasol touches and Bynum needs to play better Dee grab boards and NOT comment any dumb fouls. Good team defense always helps of course and Kobe getting everyone involved and taking the game over when we need him to. I hope Brown gets good minutes and dees up on Billups.

AND LAMAR STAY FOCUS!!!!!!

We got this if they do. GO LAKES!!!!!

Stupid Nugget Fans do. A lot of these so called Nuggets fans came over when AI was traded here, and now that Denver is doing well, the only thing they know about them is that a year ago everyone hated Karl, so that must still be the case. :hammerhead:

Nuggets will provide another hot shooting night headed by melo. But jackson will put kobe on melo in the 2nd for ultimate ball denial and lakers will go into halftime up by 6. 3rd quarter nuggets get fiesty and take a 7 point lead on LA. But LA comes back in the 4th lead by odom and kobe. Lakers win 104-95.

Expect big things from odom tonight. Sasha and brown will also hit 3 threes each.

First of all I have been a Nuggets fan since 1991 which I think is a little bit before AI got here. Karl is not a good coach, he has a lot of wins, but there is a reason he has no championship ring. And last year all those "smart Nuggets fans" hated and wanted Carmelo gone... think about that for a while. Karl has gotten Denver to the playoffs that's the best he can do. Billups is the reason Denver is where they are now, Karl has been screaming defense for the last 3 years, as soon as Chauncey arrives they all of a sudden play a little D. Karl will eventually destroy this team if he doesn't get the credit he thanks he deserves.

I don't know if Kobe has it in him to do what he did in game one...be our best offensive AND defensive player. Other guys must show up. I hope the Lakers look for Gasol early on and try to get him off to a good start.

I agree... Kobe's not 25 years old anymore, and I wouldn't be surprised if his shot looked REALLY flat tonight. On the other hand, he's one of the best conditioned athletes in the NBA and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kobe save his energy for the fourth quarter.

I'm very pumped for this. It's a must win for Den. Sure there's the saying "they win theres at home, you win yours", but really, hardly anyone comes back from 2-0. I have Lakers winning in 6, this was the game I thought the nuggets could steal. However, I love the reports of them laughing and joking around in the locker room after the game and at practice today. Kinda says they are just happy to be here in the WCF. None of them will admit its a must win tonight either which also tells me they are way overconfident. It most certainly is a must win for Denver tonight. They will NOT beat the Lakers 4 out of 5 games no matter where they are played. I hope they keep up the laid back attitude and the Lakers pounce them and all but end this series tonight :D

I actually think Powell should start or get more minutes against Denver. He is a jump shooter, and I don't think Bynum or Gasol are comfortable battling inside against Martin and Nene.

When Josh is hot he is a real option on the team.
Gasol, Powell, Ariza, Bryant, Farmar
Bynum, Odom, Brown, Sasha & Fisher

That's my rotation against Denver.

the refs should allow both team to play the game....and avoid tic tac fouls on both end.......

I want Jones to step up. Be more physical against Kobe. Kobe took him in the post everytime and got a great high percentage look. Don't wanna see that happening. Defensive rotations have to be crisp and help D has to come on time. Honestly, if Jones can't really do a good job on Kobe, we should just start Smith. Oh yeah, wanna see Smith run the point for these reasons:
1. It reduces the amount of shots he takes, sure he's great at hitting deep 3s but I don't wanna risk it at this stage of our season.
2. He's a better ball handler than A.C and can dish well.
3. It reduces A.C's minutes.

Rebounding has to be key. Boxout. Get offensive boards and putbacks that result in easy second chance points. That's how LA killed us late in the game.

MAKE THOSE FTS! THOSE DAMN FTs COST US GAME 1.

So did K-Marts fouls...so did Birdman losing the jumpball....so did that stolen entry pass...so did Gasol and the Lakers making stops on dee....so did Kobe straight up.....plenty of thing cost you guys the game.

GO LAKES!!!!

And may the best team win.

No, not fixed, he was right. The Lakers got some complete BS calls down the stretch(Anthony's offensive foul on Gasol, Martin ripping Kobe, Chris Andersen's time out, Nene's block on Kobe when he fouled out, etc.) However, the Nuggets shouldn't have allowed themselves to be in that position where the refs decided the game. They hit their free throws at a decent percentage, as well as boxing out, and they walk out of Staples with a win in Game 1.

I didn't like 3 of the 4, but the one that really bugs me is the blocking foul on the break. He was established, outside the circle, and straight up. There was hardly any contact, and the contact which did occur was created by the offensive player. A clear no call in my opinion, but it it's a foul it shouldn't be a block.

Well, Lakers look great, Nuggets look hesitant. One thing comes to mind though as a long time fan of the game:
You look at the way Gary Payton defended Jordan in the 96 finals, and you watch 3 of the 4 foul calls on Jones in the first 6 minutes of the Denver vs Nuggets game tonight, vs Kobe, and you shake your head. Rules changes.

what type of defense...If you watch Kobe he uses tons of legal defensive moves in the post. He is never just pushing Melo in the back when Melo is stationary. Kobe is physical and fouls at times but he is also trying to spin around and front Melo or get angles.

Jones just pushed Kobe in the back harder and harder until the ref called a foul. Does Kobe have to flop back to make people feel better, its the only reason he is ever able to pull the chair b/c he is pushing someone so hard that they have to use massive amounts of strength just not to fall over.

Yea, but Lakers don't match up well with the Magics. Only team that really scares me.

The Magic scare you? :lol They have no dominant players like lebron who can drop 50 on you any given game, plus the Lakers would have homecourt. Two 7 footers really limits Howard's effectiveness.

you are aware the illegal defensive rule is more restrictive of the time a player can stay in the paint. The newer 3 second defensive rule simply stated is like a 3 second immunity to the old illegal defensive rule.
Give me a break man, NBA higher-ups have even admitted that they changed the rules the way they did to allow more unimpeded movement to the basket. This has been covered on this website at length.
