He could fly through water. They called it swimming.

Actually I think he could fly, but I don't know why or how they explained that as a necessity for a character that was regularly underwater. :confusedshrug:

Nobody knows nothin bout the Groovie Goolies though apparently.

I'm not sure how obscure these were here in USA since I grew up abroad. Bunt generally if it was a popular series we'd get all the episodes there otherwise we'd only get maybe 5-6 eps max. Here goes.

thank you for that...

you just gave me two huge peice of nostalgic greatness that I had completely forgotten even existed at all...

"Peanut Butter Boopers"...I remember those being really good...I wonder what I would think of them today...

"The Trapper Keeper"...who didn't go through elementary school without one of those things?...(that is old like me anyway...:oldlol: )

awesome...

makes me kinda sad though, seems like things were just so much better back in those days...

off topic but another HUGE piece of my youth:

http://news.cnet.com/i/bto/20080102/Atari_2600.png

all I needed was ONE DAMN BUTTON!!!

here was football for me as a child:

http://www.videogamecritic.net/images/2600/football.png

and guess what...it was f*ckin great!!!...:oldlol:

then when this bad boy came it changed EVERYTHING:

http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/10/game_consoles/image/slide3.jpg

TWO BUTTONS!!!...HOLY HELL!!!

and the football was a huge upgrade to this:

then the Sega came with Madden...

I can remember playing tecmo bowl at arcades...

that is another thing kids of today will never go through...pumping tons a f*ckin quarters into arcade machines...

not all of them had 6 buttons....you had to work with huge pads that you actually had to punch down on hard!!!

the harder you punched...the more powerful the kick/punch

and throwing a fire ball was harder than hell...an uppercut was pure dadmn luck...:oldlol:

I swear I spent like 20 bucks and 12 hours at an arcade once playin Ninja Turtles - Turtles In Time (I think it was called?) :oldlol:

I miss arcades. I've never been to Dave and Busters, I think there's one like an hour away. And there's Gameworks, which was aright, and they was food and a bar, so that's legit. But it doesn't feel anything like the arcades of the old days. Although shootin zombies while smokin a smoke and poundin a drink was kinda fun when I was high as a kite. :oldlol:

Aeon Flux was great, and that whole show that it started on was great. A collection of animated shorts. I don't remember the name, The Inkwell or Inkspill or something.

Another MTV animated series that never stuck but I loved, Clone High

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRUjGVgpMo

A high school filled with teenaged clones of many of the worlds great people. Abe Lincoln as the awkward protagonist, his best friend Ghandi, a sort of pre-goth girl Joan of Arc, the smokin hot cleopatra, and the super popular jock John Kennedy. It's a great idea that probably didn't live up to it's potential, but it was still really good.

A show I found myself enjoying only a year ago when it went into syndication is Scrubs, which I never watched during it's original run (and it has gotten progressively worse to the point of being terrible), but after seeing it for the first few times, and oddly connecting with what isn't really comedy. I looked up some of the cast list on IMDB, and found that there's a ton of overlap with Clone High. So there's probably something that connects with my sensibilities.

I grew up spending a couple weeks every summer in a beach cottage in upper New England in a place called Hampton Beach with my best friend's family.
It was a block in from the beach, and across from the beach was a four block stretch of boardwalk.
It had the occasional trinket store, was loaded with counter top fast food joints where you could get pretty much whatever your heart desired deep fried.
Tiny record stores that to this day I regret not getting some of the odd imports they had in there.
Through the alleys between the buildings was a back lot with basketball courts, a baseball field, and three or four massive waterslides.
The upstairs of the buildings were bars and clubs that we weren't old enough to get into.
The end of the boardwalk was a theatre that hosted some semi big bands, and stand up acts.
A touristy tattoo shop where people could pick images off the wall they could later regret, and for the kids, airbrushing was all the rage. I could probably still dig up the T Shirt I paid forty bucks to have the Slime Ball skateboard wheels logo airbrushed onto.

But most importantly, there were probably a dozen arcades. We knew them all by name, we knew the layouts, when one of us would get caught in line for the waterslide, the other would yell to meet him at the Light Hall Dragon's Lair, and we knew exactly where that was. We dumped tons of money into those things. Mortal Kombat was brand new, and the lines were rediculous, winner stays on basketball style (my buddy was great, I was terrible). There were some new state of the art live action shooting games. And some crazy hologram game that was played on a flat table where the characters seemed to be walking around on it (it's got a wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Traveler_(video_game)#Reception_and_legacy). A punching bag game that measured damage by how hard you hit the bag, and my buddy and his brother irish whipping me into the bag and being chased out of the place by what seemed like a crazed security guy, but in retrospect was probably a seventeen year old kid just trying to hold down a summer job.

We were going to rent a place out for a week a few summers ago, go up with a bunch of buddies. Probably spend more time in the upstairs bars. We never did, in part because we figured those arcades are long gone.

wow...I remember when that holographic thing came out...:oldlol:

I think I might have tried it out once and tha was it...that thing didn't last very long at all...

and yeah, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2 were arcade games where people would stand in line forever with their quarter on the machine sitting in line...waiting to take down whoever the was whipping everyone else (usually an asian dude...:oldlol: )

you talking about the punching bag machine made me realize that games like that can be found in bars all over today...seems like that is good money too...

at alot of bars you see those touch screen games next to every seat...

and Golden Tee is everywhere...or at least it used to be...

Seems like they are taking money from adults who are trying to relive the past now that I think about it...

although I think games like pong and pacman and galaga/ect could all be found at bars before I was old enough to go in them...not sure though...

Yeah at the Hooters my exgirlfriend used to work at, they had the Golden Tee, a bowling game, and that hunting game with the shotgun, and those touch screen things. I played the hunting one a couple times and I think the golf and bowling one like once each just killin time, but those are garbage arcade games. I want Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter and Turtles In Time and the original Daytona USA game and the Simpsons arcade game, before House Of The Dead was even thought of. I think Area 51 was the new hot **** for shooting arcade games. :oldlol:

And whatever happened to Pinball machines? I remember the one arcade nearby had The Twilight Zone pinball machine and I think the Addams Family one also. I never even liked pinball machines, but I played the Twilight Zone one cuz I loved the show and liked seeing the references to episodes. :oldlol:

Definitely watched alot of these shows as a kid.

One show I did watch that I'm sure not alot of other kids were watching was "ProStars"... granted it lasted one season... with Jordan, Gretzky, and Bo Jackson as the main characters, fighting crime, saving people, etc. Bo Jackson back then was pretty popular for playing two pro sports, as I'm sure you all remember.

That's one of my favorite adult swim cartoons, and it did get significantly less play than most of the other stuff.

I'd add Stroker and Hoop to that list of underrated adult swim programming.
