Hello, everyone. I recently had chance to watch a clip of Kobe Bryant in talk show in which he talks about how he can live life just fine with only 3-4 hrs of sleep each night in addition to waking up at 4:30 AM every morning. The below is the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO9-eETFN2s&feature=channel_page

I have seen people who wake up at 4:30AM every morning by going to bed early at like 10, 11PM but I have never seen anyone who can live everyday life with only 3 or 4 hrs of sleep. Actually, someone said if you sleep like that, you would have black eyebags under your eyes and would actually be harming your health.

Do you think what he said is true? Are there really people like Kobe who gets by everyday with only 3-4 hrs of sleep per night?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I don't care if he says it works, it's gotta be hurting his game in some way. I've only heard of two cases (one was a Stanford professor) of people sleeping 3 hours a night and living a healthy life. I doubt he is one of these rare cases.

He said he can operate on just 3 hours. Doesn't mean he does it every night, but when he only has time for 3 hours, he can make it through that day.

You can do it too.

Well, I only sleep 4-5 hours a night (on weekdays) so what's the problem. I'm pretty sure he gets naps in here and there like I do.

Because you are an NBA player.

I don't give a **** who it is...no NBA star gets only 4-5 hours of sleep day in and day out.

Why not ... NBA players wake up, work out, practice, play game, media, party, sleep. But, like I said, NBAers take naps every now and then.

The actual natural amount of sleep we're supposed to have is 10 hours, but in our environment the custom is 8. But everyone's sleep needs are different, and the hours needed gradually shorten as we get older. There's a man in europe that supposedly only needs 15 minutes of sleep every night.

NBA players have their entire schedule prepped every day, and you have to be a fool to think kobe parties, especially in the playoffs.

Dude, its obvious that Kobe doesn't sleep at all, hes not human. (?)

As did Thomas Edison. It's called "Polyphasic Sleep"

Kobe actually sleeps every afternoon before a game, he keeps a hotel room in downtown L.A. and after morning practice heads to the hotel and naps before the game.

I'm sure Kobe has a hotel room for another reason... If you know what I mean.

You will be surprised how little many people get sleep wise. Most parents with young kids rarely get more than 5 hours.

Ive read how many great minds prefer to get 4-5 hrs of sleep a night.. Ben Franklin, Einstein.. most presidents as well. Shiiit I remember hearing how Nick effin Cannon trained himself to sleep 4 hrs a night. Crazy but true. I might try it.

Kobe is Chuck Norris alright?
You finally know the truth.

If this was the truth, then I too would try living off 3-4 hours of sleep.

But it's not. Maybe he can do it like every once in a while but every day? Nope.

Actually, this guy (http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2007/03/polyphasic-sleep-one-year-later/) was able to live on 2 hours of sleep a day using polyphasic sleep.

So, 3-4 hours is certainly possible, though not easy.

Bryant, 30, has been known to get up earlier than many barn owls to conduct his famously brutal workouts. One time, Larry Drew II—who now plays at North Carolina—asked to shadow him on one.

"OK," Kobe said. "Pick you up at 3:30."

But 3:30 came and went and Kobe never showed. Then, at 3:30 the next morning, he was ringing Drew's doorbell.

"You ready?" Kobe asked.

"I like to just get up and get it done," he explained to me, "then I'm back home and nobody's even up. Haven't missed a thing."

At least 3 or 4 months out of the year, I only get 4 hours of sleep a day except for Sunday mornings in which I go into a small coma. It's not that uncommon, the again most of us don't have Kobe's exercise regimen.

Interesting fact: Kobe sleeps only 3-4 hours a night. Michael Jordan, even in his prime, required a minimum of 6.25 hours a night. Kobe averages 2.5 dreams per night compared to Jordan's 3.0 dream's per night. However, Kobe's adjusted TD% (true dream percent) is actually higher because he sleeps less. His REM is also superior.

All the Jordo VS Kobe retards will either hate or love this but MJ was well known to only sleep a few hrs a night. It helps if you are health and have a fast metabolism.

Actually Einstein slept 10 hours a day. It's during REM and slow wave sleep that your neurons strengthen their connections to remember the important stuff and also get rid of the useless info. There are not many people that can sleep 3-4 hrs every day. Besides, we are also forgetting that Kobe is an athlete that spends a ridiculous amount of time training. How can his muscles fully rest and rebuild with only 3-4 hours of sleep?

I read an article in Sports Illustrated one time about Gilbert Arenas, and he said he did the same. He also said that all the greats slept that little as well, ie Michael Jordan.

It's possible but not every day.

One thing though is that NBA vets especailly ... most games are in the evening, so you can get a nap or two in during the day.

It's not like you have a second job you have to go to.
