Kevin Durant?

No way Kobe will be better than Roy after playing for almost 18 years. People see Kobe in his early 30's and immediately forget the fact that he started playing pro ball at age 17. He's not going to be elite when he's 34.

Jordan was the best player in the league at age 35.. it's not all about being able to jump the highest, run the fastest, or dunk the most.

those 3 wouldn't be in the top 3. I'm guessing Wade will be hit my injuries by then and won't be the same player he is today, Kobe will be getting old and Bargnani won't never be a top 10 player but he should be a good player. Brandon Roy and Derrick Rose are questionable. Some players who will be getting drafted in the the next years will fill those ranks.

Jordan was the best player in the league in his 13th year, yes. That's how long Kobe's been playing so far. Then he left and came back 4 years later. That's a 4 year break from playing basketball at the highest level in the world. That's a huge weight lifted off physically when you're 35 years old. Then he came back and wasn't the same player and left after 2 years. I don't see how Kobe will be better than someone like Roy after playing for almost 18 straight years with no 4-year retirement break in between.

So you're comparing Kobe at 34 to Jordan at 40 based on the number of years Kobe will have played at that time? In that case do you feel that 2013-14 will be among Bron's last successful NBA years considering he played 2 sports in HS, entered the league at 17 and will have played 11 pro years by then?

No Shaq? I keed, I keed, although I could see him sticking around until then, crazy as it sounds.

The list looks good, too, except for Wade. Obviously he's great, but he's been so injury-prone that I wouldn't even be surprised if he was on his way out of the league by 2013. I'd probably replace him with Rondo.

Wade I think barring injury should be a top 5 player. Kobe it depends on how his body holds up on whether he'd be on this list. Rose, Roy and Bargnani i'm basing mostly on potential so no guaratees there either.

11 and 18 are miles apart... that.. doesn't even make sense. Lebron in 2014 would likely be similar to Kobe a few years ago. How many high school drafted players played at 7th-best-player-in-the-league level after 18 years? Here's one example - after 18 years Moses Malone was putting up 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds. I just don't see how you think Kobe can be the 7th best player in the league after playing for 18 years. Most players are long retired after 13-16 years, let alone playing at top 10 level.

Yep. Just look at how KG (or, for a stronger but more extreme example, TMac) has broken down, despite never having had any major injuries and being in great shape. It's just too much wear and tear on the body.

LeBron is still on the rise, and probably will be for a few seasons.
LeBron will be top 10 until his mid-late 30s if he stays in it.

Per is purely an offensive tool. Even Hollinger it's creator acknowledges this.. People who use PER to determine the defensive abilities of a given player know nothing about how defense works or how that particular formula is supposed to work.

Also, he's a perimeter player so I wouldn't expect his best defensive moments to be shot blocking. Where are the steals and hard nosed perimeter defensive plays and tough aggressive defense that you see out of guys like Kobe, Bron, Wade and Melo?

The best you could come up with is a couple of blocks against NBA midgets like Aaron Brooks and TJ Ford?

:oldlol: I chose 5 out of several.. You probably would've put at least that same number on here if you had been able to FIND 5 defensive plays from Kevin Durant... And not only that, the best 2 plays you could find were of 6'9 KD blocking 6'0 TJ Ford and 5'11/6'0 Aaron Brooks.. As for Bargnani his D this year has been solid. He's done a very good job against the likes of Dwight Howard, Yao Ming, Dirk, etc etc... And if you'd have watched even 1 Raptors game this season you'd know this.. So hate the guy if you want, but don't talk outta your ass. It's making you look real stupid and ignorant.

It's too hard to predict that right now. Maybe some new guy will come in. Blake Griffen or some other young guys.

But if I had to choose it would be something like this ( Not In Order )

Lebron James
D-Wade
Kevin Durant
Brandon Roy
CP3
Dwight Howard
Derrick Rose
Deron Williams
Kobe Bryant
O.J Mayo

One thing i'd like to say, yes I know that Bargnani is my favorite player and that's a part of a reason why I put him on that list, but not the only reason. He's a 7 footer that shoots very efficiently, better than a guy like Dirk, at least from the perimeter. He's finally getting to play consistent starter minutes and the coach has placed him as a C and now he's no longer getting exposed at the 3 spot. He just has that rare skillset and i'd only put one other player in that category and that's Dirk. A 7 footer that can take his man off the dribble, post up, shoot it at a high percentage from the perimeter.. And his defensive game has stepped up siginificantly in the past year. His rebounding numbers are up, he's become a solid shot blocker, and he does a good job holding down post players as well as his improved help D. I don't think it's a stretch to say that 5 years from now when he's had some time to round into form he could be a top 10 player in the league or at the very least top 5 for his position.

Lebron will for sure be #1.
Kobe will be on downside but probably top 15.
Dwayne Wade will be the best SG with Brandon Roy a close second.
Chris Paul will still be the best PG.
Dwight Howard will be the best big man.
Tim Duncan and KG will be done!
Most suprising resurgent 30 year old and above player will be Amare Stoudemire. (That's my bold prediction.)

Nope.. I'd put Kevin Durant in the same category with a guy like Danny Granger.
Then you must think that Granger will also be a top 10 player in 2013-2014.

Dont kid yourself. Durant arguably had a better year than Granger did and it was only his 2nd season. Granger is not the scorer Durant is. He doesnt have the ability or potential to really create for others like I see Durant having. He picks up way too many silly fouls. He just doesnt have that superstar vibe coming from him.

This isnt a knock on Granger either. Those two were probably my favorite 2 players to watch this year besides Amare. Granger has the potential to be a top 10-15 guy year in and out, but he doesnt have the potential of Durant.

Durant could be McGrady in his prime with more efficiency and better 3 point shooting.

Oh come on, what if back in the 04-05 season you said 'Who's going to be the best in the 08-09 season?'

I'd probably be talking about how much upside Darko has and how his per-40 stats paint the picture of a future star big man. I'd also write about how scary TMac will be when he's 29 and knows all the tricks of a veteran but still has his athleticism. Probably also say something about how Dwight Howard should be about to emerge as a quality starting center about now, too.

I agree with those saying that Kobe will break down earlier than Jordan did, due to the hundreds more games he's played at the same age. We're starting to see (through McGrady, J'Oneal and others) that it's about miles on the tires, not raw age.

The human body can only withstand so many gruling pro athletic seasons. It isn't an automatic that you get to play until 35 no matter when you started.

Fixed, then Agree. Just as I used in my example earlier in this thread, Jordan was still the best player in the league at age 35. No he didn't log as many NBA years but he definitely wasn't the quickest and most athletic guy in the league aymore. Just like Kobe he was a smart veteran and was able to perfect that midrange jumper of his to remain effective in a league full of young upstarts. Also, he works hard on the defensive end as well, so I don't see him dropping out of a top 10 discussion at age 34. My guess would be about 37-38 if he's still around by then.
