At nearly 7-foot-9, with size 19 feet, Chinese basketball player Sun Ming Ming dreams of joining the NBA.

But what has made him so tall and given him dreams of following his countryman Yao Ming into the U.S. professional ranks was also a threat to his life.

A tumor at the base of his skull was pressing on his pituitary gland and making him grow, and had to be surgically removed last year. Without the surgery, he faced the possibility of heart failure and early death. A tiny piece of tumor remains.

if he can convert 100% of his close range shots and get some bulk, some team may draft him for offense/defense substitutions near the end of games... then again... nahh he's useless.

Nothing but a big stiff. He'll never make it to the NBA. He barely sees action in Dogde City from what I've heard.

Holy ****!!!!!!!!!!

I dont care what yall say about busts i would give him a chance.

Look at the pic...he doesnt need to jump to dunk...he cant even be blocked easily.

Make him workout until he reaches 300 LBS and teacxh him some post moves and he will be a solid contributor.

what are you talking about. with that quickness, he would set the NBA on fire.

Man.. it would be sweet if he's mobile like Yao Ming. How about that nice pass he made, I'm not sure if he actually passed it or dropped the pass though. With a pass like that, at least it implies he's not slow in the head. He also sealed off his defender nicely and got position on one of the highlights, so he at least has some fundamentals. They gotta tell him to stop moving on the picks though, its just really annoying watching him try to set a pick, the refs must be blind to not see someone that big moving on the screens.

Actually, he moves pretty smooth and he's solidly built. I thought he'd be to weak and frail to support himself.

He only plays 5.5 mins a game, averages 1.5 points and shoots 37.5% from the field.

He'll never make it to the NBA.

37.5fg% on 2pt attempts. Damn. If I was of his height, I'd prolly average 80%+ . He barely went off the floor in the first pic. :lol

Well you have to understand that Yao's success was not merely a result of his height. Man you've gotta be able to hit open jumpers and shot the ball well, Yao does that and most players cannnot defend him at all. This is what makes him special.

I know, bro. Me and my friends play on an 8.5 foot rim sometimes just to be stupid, and I'm always like, "This is what it's like for YAO to play on a 10 ft rim. I can drain anything from that height, it's just too easy.

But, when you're over 7ft, you wouldn't be able to move nearly as well, and you'd have tons of health problems, unless you're lucky, or built like Shaq.

It's very simple, it's the country with the most people, so you're going to see people of all extremes, really really tall, and really, really short. They recently had the shortest man in the world.

Haha! :lol Yeah. It's difficult for a 7ftr because most of them lack mobility. It's easier said than done because we're short. But 37.5%? That's just awful.

yao was one of the hardest workers in the league.

right from when he was a kid, he was practicing, hours and hours every day.

yao was born with obvious advantages, but he worked very hard too

By "whenever I see," I meant at basketball games, or news/photos on the internet. The only guy I've met over 7' is Robert Parrish.

Nah, I wasn't drafted by the Celtics, but it'd be cool if I was :D
