View Full Version : Chris Tucker vs Chris Rock

Who's funnier? A better Actor?
I'll add this the other many "Actor A" vs "Actor B" threads
Although Chris Rock has a much longer resume than Chris "I only do Rush Hour Movies" Tucker, I'd go with Tucker in both categories. His roles in "Friday", "Money Talks" "Dead Presidents (his best acting role) and even his small role in "Jackie Brown" are superior to anything Rock has done.

Tucker.
Rock now relies on strictly racist jokes aganist whites to get laughs. They just aren't funny.
Tucker was awesome in Fifth Element as well.

chris rock > tucker
rock had his own tv show, alot of great movies, was lil penny (lets not forget) and has some of the best standups ever.
tucker is great.
i like rock better though.
Stand up it's not even up for debate.
But I do prefer Tucker on the big screen. Ruby Rhod was a great character.

I've seen way more Chris Rock then Chris Tucker, but maybe that's why I like Chris Tucker more. He's not as worn out as Rock is. He was the second best thing about The Fifth Element, with Milla Jovovich being the first.
I just love that movie. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB4AEbj8iww&feature=related)was a great scene.

She was fine in that movie. I think every guy would have given it to her.

it depends....
Chris Rock's commentary is much more relevant politically and socially, plus he is much more clever... But sometimes Chris Tucker is simply more funny..
Chris Tucker is an extremely funny guy...
Chris Rock is very funny and very clever in his jokes

Chris Rock just isn't a very good actor, but he's had some funny roles. I was never a big fan of his stand up. It was too much, 'white people this and white people that, blah blah blah.' I'd go with Tucker in movies no question.

Has Tucker done anything without Jackie Chan this decade? I remember liking him as a kid, but his voice and persona are pretty grating, and I don't know if I can respect a comedian who does one movie every five years. Chris Rock's humor can be predictable, but he's still funny and so good at "white people this, black people that" jokes that I don't even mind it. I don't know who's a better actor, but Rock's definitely had some bad roles, and he seems less likable on camera. I still think Chris Rock is more talented, though.

So you've just ignored Friday, The Fifth Element, Dead Presidents and some others just because his last 3 films were in the Rush Hours series, with the first one being very good and the second passable.

You know, I wish to allmighty Lord vader that you would change that creepy a$$ avi, but I'm with you right now. How is this even a legit comparison. Chris Tucker has been hilarious 3 times in his life.
1. Def Comedy Jam performance
2. Friday
3. Rush Hour 1
Every other time he's been kinda funny. Chris Rock is brilliant every single time he takes the stage. Granted, his movies are trash but standup (the true barometer for comedians) is where he sh*ts on about 75% of every comedian ever. But, like my man Biggie said, Eddie is the GOAT. That dude is funny no matter what. His movies have turned to sh*t yet he is still hilarious. Plus, Delirious, Raw, Coming To America, Beverly Hills Cop, and 48 Hours are greater than anything either one of these guys have ever done.

You've been riding the short bus since you joined ISH, I swear. Chris Tucker's acting? GTFO! You gonna list Jackie Brown and say he attributed to that being a great film? Why? Because without all of his 6 minutes of "magic" the movie woulda went straight to dvd? He was funny in Dead Presidents. Great? Come on. Chris Tuckers "acting" is no where near the brilliance of Chris Rock's standup material. And all the b*tching white people saying he is racist, give it a rest. Rock is one of the most respected black comedians of our generation. He's always performing with Sienfield, Crystal, Robin Williams, and other elite white comedians. Dude sh*ts on black people in his comedy more than whites anyway.

And I dont agree with whoever said that Rock's whole shtick is racism against white people. If you've watched his standup specials you'd realize that

2) He talks about other things outside of race(ie. gender roles, relationships, society in general)

Man, even in the OTC you Lakers guys are f*cking mind numbingly stupid and annoying. Nobody said he carried Jackie Brown, but he was great in his limited role. I can't think of one thing Rock added to any movie.
Dogma-sucked
Pootie Tang-sucked
Osmosis Jones-sucked
Bad Company-sucked
Head of State-extra sucked
The list goes on and on. Great stand up comic, horrible actor in horrible movies. The laughs he gets in stand-up don't make up for the hours on end wasted while watching his horrible movies. Chris Rock is considered one of the greatest comics EVER. I love Chris Tucker, but is e proven to have a complete special on his own ...
Rocks stand up specials inculde
Five specials of his own:
1994: Big Ass Jokes
1996: Bring The Pain
1999: Bigger and Blacker
2004: Never Scared
2008: Kill the Messenger
And Four other appearances on HBO/ect:
1987: Uptown Comedy
1989: This is Chris Rock
1989: Evening at the Improv
1996: Def Comedy Jam
Not to mention his work on SNL And ILC and The Chris Rock Show and Everybody Hates Chris.
-----
Chris Tucker only has:
Two Def Comedy Jam appearances in 92' and 93'
Rock > Comedy big time, not even up for argument
Tucker has also only done a few movies, not even lookin up on IMDB, he's done House Party 3, Friday, Dead Pres, Fifth Element, Jackie Brown, Money Talks, Rush Hour 1,2 and 3, that's it, TEN films. Five of them he was a main character.
I'll admit, his roles are funnier than CR is films, but he hasn't done enough. I could probably think of five main roles CR has done that are funny. CB4, I Think I Love My Wife, Down to Earth, Pootie Tang, ect.
So Stand up comedy, out of 10: Rock 10 > Tucker 2
Films, out of 10: Rock 6 > Tucker 7

Rock and Tucker come from that late 80s' / to mid 90s' Def Comedy Jam, In Living Color era of black comics (Rock slightly early but what the hell.) He's in that first tier of these comics though but at the very bottom of that tier.
Comics from that era I'd rank over Tucker, (no hate, I love CT!)
Damon Wayans
Martin Lawrence
Dave Chappelle
Eddie Griffin
Cedric the Entertainer
David Alan Grier
Tommy Davidson
D.L. Hughley
Bernie Mac
Bill Bellamy

Bill Bellamy made "How To Be A Player". Which was at the time a groundbreaking film.
I don't do Tommy Davidson. I never got his appeal. Eddie is hit or miss also. Chris doing stand-up was always terrible to me. He should stick to films.
Chris Rock has had a couple of good films. When you factor in his TV stuff and stand-up, it makes a comparison to thread to Chris Tucker seem a bit silly. This is Pookie we are talking about. He played the only crackhead/junkie that I have ever pitied on film.

How to be a Player was a ripoff of Thin Line between love and hate.

-Don't hate on Bil Bellamy. Dude is the creator of the term "Booty Call" that has to go down for something. Also, his comedy specials are hilarious. 1994s' Booty Call I haven't seen in ages, but from what I remember, as great as was 2005's Back To My Roots.
-Eddie Griffin is also very great. I didn't really care for his Freedom of Speech from last season by Dysfunctional Family and VooDoo Child are gold. HIs 2 HBO specials from the early 90s were some of the best from each series.
-Tommy Davidson is very underrated comic. He had 3 special in the 90s'. Takin' It to DC from 90, Illin' in Philly from 91 (which is available on youtube check it out for yourselves) and On The Strength of New York in 96.
-Tracy Morgan is hilarious, his One Mic from Comedy Central back in 02 was great, but he's isn't above Tucker.
-Jamie Foxx is a very overrated comedian. He's funny, but that's about it. I've seen two of his three specials from HBO. His sitcom was nothing to brag about either. His best episodes came when Mark Curry was a guest or the later seasons when he was supported by Chris Spencer and Alex Thomas.

Will Smith
Martin Lawrence
Mike Epps
Guy that played Craigs dad
Guy that played Craigs uncle
Eddie Murphy
I'll admit that Chris Tucker isn't bad on film, until he starts talking all fast. Chris Rock is better off doing stand up. I just think those 2 are overrated

Will Smith is not even a comedian. Mike Epps, seriously. "Guy that played Craigs dad and uncle" lol.

Tucker: "Hey man, these muhphuggas think I'm funnier than you."
Rock: "They think Kevin Hart is funnier than both of us ... haha"

As an actor Tucker kills Rock.
But Rock kills Tucker as a comedian.

I like Tucker, but Tucker is not a great actor. Tucker's roles, he plays himself. Loud, fast talking, just like his stand up.
I mean, Rock is not a great actor but he takes on different roles. A crackhead, a rapper, a white guy, ect.
Only role Tucker played out of character was in Fifth Element.
