I know that John Amechi (spelling?) came out of the closest recently, and was the first professional athlete to do so. So I'm sure they're out there it's just no one really wants to subject themselves to the scrutiny and constant attention from the media.

Without a doubt. The NBA and any field dominated by males is going to have an old-fashioned view on homosexuality. The percentages have not changed. If there are any homosexuals in the NBA(and rest assured, there are), they certainly will not come out at any point during their playing careers. There is simply too much to lose; respect from teammates, fans, and jobs(yes, there are still homophobic business owners).

Take John Amaechi for example. If he came out during his playing career, he would have been blackballed by the NBA. It is sad, but that's the way it is. For those that are homosexual, don't expect them to come out of the closet any time soon. They have too much to lose and little or nothing to gain.

Probably the only one I'm sure of is John Amaechi. Wasn't he the guy who Tim was talking about and got in hot water for? And he's also the guy who used to endorse that Head Blade thing. Oh! And I remember him being on the Tyra show once because of that coming out the closet stuff. (Don't ask me why I watched Tyra)

Though they would be looked highly upon by the gay community. They may lose a few mill here and there business wise, but if they are gay, they are probably supportive of helping the gay community. Plus, coming out will be looked upon positively by the media and actually could help the guys reputation.

Since anywhere from 4-10% of the population is gay the answer is yes.

Those percentages are most likely lower in the NBA, because for the most part homosexuals avoid/are not very good at sports. I would say 1-2% is accurate, so about 5-10 active gay NBA players.

I know of MANY good athletes who are homosexuals, but would never tell anyone so the people that lost to wouldn't throw a fit after losing to a gay guy. That stereotype is not always true.

And what's the deal with you just making up stats out of thin air? Where did 1-2% come from? You have no way of knowing. Are you some type of expert and have magically deduced that there are X amount of gay players through your superior calculations?

I was just making an educated guess. And yes of course there are athletic homosexuals, but a lot of them definitely avoid that part of life. Someone else said that anywhere from 4-10% of the population is gay, so I simply lowered that percentage and compared it to the number of players in the NBA. Of course we don't know how many there are but 5-10 out of approx. 430 sounds about right to me.
