View Full Version : did kobe really have to jump up like a little girl??

I mean, come on, was that necessary? It's not his first ring and I understand he was excited but it just looked kinda stupid. It's like he was trying to make it a memorable highlight. Will it become one of those highlights? Great, lets all remember kobe's "i'm a princess" jump.

and i don't know if anybody has mentioned it or talked about it but it's been on my mind since yesterday. oh well...

I'm sure if you ever accomplished anything worthwhile you'd be jumping too.

Barkley said "And he wanted us to believe that he didn't want to win one without Shaq? He never jumped that high when they won the last three times."

It wouldn't last 7 games again if you have Artest jacking up shots and a crippled McGrady playing.

Bynum will be in much better health next year and of course there's still Gasol, they can keep up with Yao.

Not totally convinced Yao can go 90+ games in a season again, we'll see his recovery after this injury.

LOL if you really wanna see someone jump like a little girl look at Paul pierce's jumps when he wins, especially at Game 6 of NBA Finals 2008 and Game 7 vs. the Cavs. Little girls have no vert, and Paul Pierce certainly has no vert. At least Kobe has some jump compared to him.

Man, seriously, of all the things to dislike about Kobe, this is pretty insignificant. I can't stand the guy, but this nothing to piss and moan about. Certainly not thread worthy. You know, I dislike Kobe for a variety of reasons, but I see what some of these people mean when they say people nitpick and find the most retarded things to hate him for. He just won the NBA championship. The highest honor for his profession. I guess he's supposed to just waltz calmly off the court and be expressionless. Seriously, I've seen NBA players get crucified for being "boring", or "monotonous", but when they actually show emotion, they're hated for it? :confusedshrug:

Honestly, I hate the Lakers but with the achievement like that after a gruesome series with Houston and to bounce back and do this, and get back to the highest achievement, damn right he had the right to do it. I would be doing backflips (or at least try and fail completely).

I think it was just because hed been holding his excitement in for so long and he didnt release it untill they actually won. Point is he won another ****ing championship and his reaction, awkward or not, doesnt matter at all

Kobe did the patented MJ championship celebration(w/ 100% accuracy). MJ did it right after the final buzzer of clinchers in '92, '93, '97 and '98. They were spontaneous celebrations too because all 4 of those runs went down to the last play. He didn't do it in '91 and '96 - when the games weren't close.

Make no mistake, Kobe's celebrations last night were well rehearsed. It doesn't make me angry or anything. I just find it weird that he still had MJ on his mind while celebrating probably the most special moment of his career.

because he won his 4th championship you stupid tard.

Its not a big deal, but it was a pose for the camera type moment. The series wasn't even in doubt after game 4, and it was basically an easy win, and it was on the road and not celebrating with the fans. I was expecting him to do what his teammates did and embrace each other and celebrate or throw up the 4 or something, but him jumping and fist pumping by himself out of nowhere was obviously planned

Nothing wrong with that. I'd have done the running slide on my knees and taken my shirt off and pretended to have cried in it...you know the other soccer celebration.

Jordan is my favorite player of all time and I do not like Kobe at all, but I still have never got the point of what is so bad of him copying some of Jordan's moves? Tell me what it so bad about it, who is getting harmed by it? I want a serious answer on what is so bad about it. You are supposed to emulate perfection and greatness in your abilities to become great. Obviously with Jordan being the GOAT, Kobe and many other ball players would do just that.

Oh and quit hating. It's annoying enough as it is between people psychoanalyzing the Lakers apparently not celebrating enough to satiate our need to see others celebrate (see Bill Simmons) and those trying to discredit the Lakers' win by bringing up injuries to other teams (hello last couple of times we lost we had injuries too; Malone '04 and then Ariza and Bynum in '08).

Like a little girl?!?

Kobe did the patented MJ championship celebration(w/ 100% accuracy). MJ did it right after the final buzzer of clinchers in '92, '93, '97 and '98. They were spontaneous celebrations too because all 4 of those runs went down to the last play. He didn't do it in '91 and '96 - when the games weren't close.

Make no mistake, Kobe's celebrations last night were well rehearsed. It doesn't make me angry or anything. I just find it weird that he still had MJ on his mind while celebrating probably the most special moment of his career.

I think your spot on here...I have no problem with Kobe celebrating, he and his team deserved it, but Kobe needs to be Kobe, its clear and obvious for all non-Lakers fans that Kobe has some sort of inferiority complex to Michael Jordan, sad but true...

I don't really get after players for how they celebrate winning a title.

I think people critique Kobe's on court antics mainly because they often seem awkward or forced.

In this case, the game was well in hand, so there wasn't much suspense, and it was on the road, so it's not like it was in front of the home fans. It did look a little weird considering his teammates didn't make the fuss about it that Kobe did.

No a big deal though.

This thread kicks a$$. Biggest problem with pro-ball players, they only do one thing well (or at least wel enough to do it on TV) and that's play. Celebrations are typically lame. Either too little (is the fist pump really that great) or too much (catcher moshing the pitcher as the whole team piles on) REALLY? I mean really...is it really worth it.

the 5 worst basketball celebration - some examples follow

5. Angrily pumping your chest while flashing your jersey. AWFUL and scary. Iggy's recent in the 'offs was a bad example.

4. Climbing on the table. Really sucks - and it takes so long to make that happen, it feels staged. Ewing did it/James does it - it sucks.

3. Jumping around -- seems more desperate than anything else. No one to hug, no one to high five, just sort of jumping..and an overreaction on top of that. Are you really THAT excited. At least it is usually spontaneous. See thread.

2. Fist Pump. Sort of awesome, it says "Yeah its great, but I've done this before" but its so self-consciously-cool like "I don't really want to make too big a deal out of this, so I'm just gonna fist pump."

1. Facing the crowd and bowing/saluting/grimacing. Screams "LOOK AT ME!" Your a ball player, not a ballerina, get back to work. R.Miller always did it. Sucks.

The 5 best.

5. Running to your teammates on the bench. Unoriginal, but genuine.

4. High-fiving/hugging/physcially acknowledging a non-celeb fan. Just gave someone the highlight of their sports-life and its good for the fans.

3. Madcap crazy teammates hugging on the floor. Better than 5 because its more spontaneous and you'll get a Verajoa-type really over-doing it.

2. Individual nonsense starts, interrupted by teammates. I like that one because showman whole team celebrates and stops Mr. Showtime from the bottom 5 above.

1. Throwing ball in the air at the buzzer. Awesome.

Awesome.

Hahahahaahahahaha so true I couldn't help but to lol @ this. My favorite was Jordan's cocky lil "fist pump" back in the day every time he hit a game winner.... as to say "I'm cool, I don't need to jump around and go ape**** like a normal person would, I'm just gonna sit here with my fist raised at the crowd for an entire minute". But what can I say, I'm a Bulls fan so I naturally found his cockyness to be extremely enjoyable to watch....

I'm a Laker fan, and I can tell you first hand that I don't think like most of you Jordan fanboys. When I see someone do something, my first reaction isn't, "Hey, Jordan did it... that ***** is copying."

I guess you idiots are right though. Michael Jordan must have been the first player EVER to jump in the air and celebrate.

Since when do celebrations have to be unique? This is about Kobe, and your insecurities.

I have no problem with Kobe having a similar jumpshot style to jordan, or a similar dunk to Jordan, but when the game is over, and you have time to think about your actions and what your doing, it isn't cool to blantantly copy another guys signature celebration, shall we dig up that Kobe's jersey number is 24? I suppose that is a coincidence too? What happened to Kobe being Kobe?

I cannot read Kobe's mind, but everyone that I have talked to, both Lakers fans and not, have said to me, that celebration was exactly the same as Jordan's...Fanboy or not, you can't argue with the truth, Lakers fans suck as usual, except for a selected few...

Of course it will come to mind of a Jordan fan, why wouldn't it? Most of Jordan's highlights are viewed more than any other player, is it not obvious Kobe trying to be like Mike?

Well, it's called showing emotion for something you've worked hard all year long. Not sure if you've heard of it.

Way to read between the lines.

I said no such thing.

And I quote: "considering his teammates didn't make the fuss about it that Kobe did."

Are you insinuating that none of the other Lakers were "making a fuss" about having just won a championship?

it really is hilarious that you guys think that kobe is actually copying jordan with celebrations. i mean, it's freakin hilarious. howling hilarious. get a grip guys. he's not 10 years old anymore practicing in front of his mirror like you guys are. he's a seasoned superstar who can do whatever the f he wants. you idiots who obsess about trying to poke holes in a multimillionaire all-time great based on freakin celebrations need to get a grip. yes, jumping up and down is a jordan trademark. he owns that move. unfortunately he owns the fistpump, the fingers, the table, the hug, the cry, the fall on the floor, and the bunny hop as well. kobe's gotta sort through the trademark list and find his own. move on, please. stop thinking you got something on the guy. that little inner laugh should be towards yourself, not the guy you're watching on tv.

Come on man, that's the least of things that irritate me about Kobe. The Kobe hate really goes to far sometimes. It's just a game. His team won the championship, it's just bitterness to keep this going.

You know what... The Laker fans are keeping this going... they know it's an easy win (that's how ridiculous this is) so they're forcing others to keep digging and making these ridiculous assumptions about Bryant's celebration. No doubt this is going to be used as one of those classic "These are what the haters are like" threads. :oldlol:

A lot of players try to be like Mike... Kobe isn't even the closest to Jordan in terms of resemblance of playstyle. Guys like LBJ, J-Rich, Kevin Martin all wear 23 as a tribute to Jordan. Out of all the players in the league, Wade is probably the most Jordan-esque.

this is what i think: he has the rings, the money, the skills, everything so who cares if anybody says anything about him. it doesn't matter, we're just saying it, it's not gonna make a difference.

How are the Laker fans keeping this going?
Look at all the OP of each thread. Look see who started them and then come back and tell us if us Laker fans are keeping these bullsh*t threads going.

Really all this is mindless chatter...the fact me and you are posting in here is also contributing to all this Kobe hate BS. I'm bout to bounce for a few becuase these boards are becoming mindless.

After days of carefully reviewing this thread, it is clear that Kobe DID in fact, HAVE to jump like a little girl. He had to.

atleast kobe has a reason to jump to. Tmac on the other hand, don't know if he can jump again already. he's been injured for awhile and didn't see him in the playoffs :D just kidding
