In the Samuel L Jackson movie Coach Carter, there is a player at a school called St Francis that Coach Carter's highschool team plays against. On that St. Francis team is a guy named Ty Crane who the announcers say is the next Lebron James and a future NBA number one pick. Coach Carters team is in Richmond California so I assume Ty Crane played in some prep school up in norcal too.

Now I know coach carter is a movie, but at the end it says that it is based on a true story, and it tells about which college all the players on coach carters team played for.

So if Coach Carter is a true story and the people in it are real, which player is the guy Ty Crane supposed to be?

Wait, the movie is supposed to take place in the 98/99 season, but the announcers call him "the next Lebron James"? That doesn't seem to make sense.

Why would they say "next LeBron James" in the 98/99 season?
LeBron was like 12 years old then...

i know, the real story took place in 98/99
the movie is set in 2004

its wierd-i think the script writer just put that so we would realize he was a highschool phenom-even tho lebron wasnt getting media attention back then its for the audience now.

Tyson Chandler that sounds good but would a highschool team from Richmond play a highschool team from Compton? They played once preseason and then once in the state tournament

It was based on a real story at Richmond High School, outside of Coach Carter's son everyone elses name was altered.

Who the hell is Wayne Oliver? Was he as good as Lance Stephenson thinks he is? If so, why is he not already a hall-of-famer?

I googled him, and he didnt have the smarts to go to a D1 school.

But he did play overseas at one point, and he has played in the NBDL, ABA, IBL, and had private workouts with the Warriors.

It says Wayne Oliver played for Richmond High school. In other words, he played for Coach Carter's team. He was the stud player for The good guys. Not the stud NBA prospect player for their in state rival.

Ty Crane, the "next Lebron James" played for their in state rival. And he was a center/power forward. Therefore, Ty Crane must be based on another player. Unless the Ty Crane character is just totally made up, which is entirely possible.

I haven't watched it either. But I'm just saying, Wayne Oliver is not the guy the thread is asking about.

And as I said, Ty Crane may be based on no real player that Coach Carter's team played against.

Fictional character "Ty Crane" in Coach Carter is representative of Chandler

The Next LeBron thing is probably a blooper by the people that made the movie.

i dont think it was chandler, because ty crane hit a winning fadeaway in the state tournament, can't see tyson chandler doing that

good question though

For some reason coming out of highschool all the scouts said Tyson Chandler had an NBA ready jumpshot and his game was most comparable to Kevin Garnett's.

So for sure Ty Crane is Tyson Chandler? Nice, wonder how he feels about that, hes shown in pretty good light actually, congratulating Coach Carters team at the end for playing so well

but would a highschool team from Richmond play a highschool team from Compton? They played once preseason and then once in the state tournamentyes because compton and richmond are both in the state of california. that's why they would play in the state tourney.

preseason is just that, teams match up against whoever they feel like playing. some play more than others some travel some don't

in the movie Ty Crane went to a rich private prep school called St Francis. I better check out which HS Tyson went to.

wtf in real life Tyson went to Dominguez? That's not rich prep school at all its the opposite. Hmm guess its just movie taking liberties, making Coach Carters ghetto richmond match up against rich preppy Ty Crane's St Francis, in reality it was ghetto dominguez vs ghetto richmond, guess that isnt as exciting

cant you find the richmond schedule that year and see what team they played in the championship game? I have not seen the movie

but it seems to be chandler, who was touted as having a good offensive game back then. Man, I remember those chandler/curry bulls teams with great fondness
