View Full Version : Does anyone not like Alice In Chains?

pete's montreux
06-30-2009, 06:41 PM
Me and some guy at my work the other day were throwing bands at each other, saying whether we liked them or not. I threw out AIC, and he gave me one of those looks like any normal person would make if you said you liked Sum 41 or some really horrible band.

He gives me the look and goes, "Are you f*cking serious, dude? Alice In Chains?", and started laughing at me.

AIC, really? Who doesn't like them? I think they're one of the few bands that don't have a bad song.

We think so much alike it frightens me sometimes.

OK... I can tell you are serious with this post and I don't have time to argue it, but I completely disagree. I believe Cream lasted for about three years. How can you compare that to a band that released an epic album nearly every year for a decade?

Cream simply doesn't have the legacy to compare to Zeppelin. The others named don't have the chops, but I'll debate that later when I have more time.

Yes, this was a serious post. Longevity is an easy cop out at times.

I mean I'd argue Derek and the Dominos were better, but you'd say they only put out one album. Doesn't change the fact that that one album was better than anything Lexington ever put out.

:confusedshrug:

That's completely subjective and unproveable. My argument would be that Zeppelin does not have the awesomeness or the potential to be sexy that Hannah Montana does. I would even venture to say that Hannah's real identity, non-singing Miley Cyrus, is > LXZ. Plus, did Zep ever have their own TV show?

That's what I thought.

Are the two of you purposely trying to send me over the edge? Seriously... I am thinking about calling off work so I can continue with this discussion.

I'll be back on later to thoroughly diffuse any and all attempts to try and deface Zep's awesomeness.

AIC was on my long list of bands that I wanted to try to get into but just didn't really give a damn about them at the time, until I bought Dirt, which pretty much single-handily allowed me to tolerate and even enjoy grunge.

Soundgarden > Pearl Jam > Alice In Chains > Nirvana

This whole thread is pretty confusing, but this makes sense, I'd swap Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, and STP is in there with AIC. I've never liked much of the Nirvana stuff other than the unplugged album.

I've also told this story a few times, but when AIC was first out with Man in the Box, I went to see them open for a triple headline of Anthrax, Megadeath, and Slayer. They were roundly booed off the stage and had things violently thrown at them.

My friend went to this concert
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny_JZ6SKcns#t=29

It was filmed for a ABC concert special. The line up was

Alice in Chains
Fishbone
LL Cool J

This was before Lollapalooza and was based on the same idea of different musical tribes coming together.

LL Cool J came out and saw a bunch white kids moshing and crowd surfing (Back when it was still new!) and did a three songs and then GTFO.

I found somebody posting about the show

Anyone out here have a copy of the of the Fishbone performance on ABC's In Concert from 1991?
A while back someone had mentioned having a VHS copy of the show and hadn't converted it yet.
I was at this show, and my VCR ****ed up, so I never got to see.
Would LOVE to.

It was such a Kickass night. Alice in Chains, 3rd Bass, Fishbone, and LL Cool J.
LL tried to follow Fishbone.--after the show was advertised and sold out as a Fishbone show.
It was hilarious, Fishbone tore it up, lifetime top of there game, then LL limped out for two shitty tunes, his mic fritzed out, and he stormed off the stage, never to return again.
His 10 piece band just kind of stood there not knowing what to do. Then they kind of wandered off after about 5 minutes. Priceless.

I'd love the whole show, but hey, I'll settle for any of it.

Hold it...I know this is a responding to a response to a troll post, but if you're talking about instrumental/songwriting chops, then King Crimson is better than Zeppelin everywhere except the drummer, and lyrics. And depending on what era King Crimson we're talking about, it's pretty close there as well.
