Artest has also been in LA recently, and loves LA.

You can't be serious. Artest was a chucker when he had to be. Under PJ, with the likes of Gasol on his team, and Bryant (someone he admires) leading them as the alpha dog. That crap would be held in check. Ariza is inferior to Artest in every category of the game. The defense would be bolstered like no other.

Artest is asking for 12 million a year, unless the Rockets do a sign-and-trade with the Lakers (and I don't see why on earth they would want to help them out) the Lakers can't get Artest. It's just like that wet dream Spurs (I think) fans had when Maggette was a FA, and people were saying he was going to sign for MLE.

If either Ariza or Odom prove to be too expensive for the Lakers, one backup option could be Houston forward Ron Artest, a player Kupchak has targeted in the past.

Agent David Bauman said Tuesday afternoon that the Lakers, Cleveland Cavs and Orlando Magic were three teams he expected to join Houston in pursuit of Artest.

"Ron's tight with Kobe," Bauman said. "From a basketball perspective, the Lakers make perfect sense. Ron is a winner. His best fit is when he's on a winning team. He shoots the three, posts up smaller guys, and defensively he's a beast. Certainly those are skills a contending team would find attractive."

Bauman would not discuss salary demands for Artest, but few teams have the cap room to pay more than the mid-level exception, expected to be valued at slightly less than $6 million.

Artest has said his first choice would be to re-sign with Houston, a fact that Bauman said hasn't changed despite Yao Ming's foot injury being more serious than first believed.

"He's hopeful Yao is going to be healthy," Bauman said. "Even if Yao misses some time, Ron's confident Yao will be back on the court. It's not affecting his decision one way or the other."

He apparently wants $12 million. If that's the case, I don't think the Lakers have enough money to sign him through free agency [like EVERYBODY else in this topic has already said]. You can 'target' him, but it doesn't mean anything else will fall through. Will Artest likely take 3-4 million a YEAR less than he would in Houston? Doubt it, but there's always a 'slight' chance, just as there is a 'slight' chance LeBron takes less with wherever he signs, or Chris Bosh, or anybody.

You sure thats a good fit? Ariza while individually may not be the player that Artest is, but he sure plays his role perfectly. He gambles and gets big steals that sometimes turn the game around. I don't remember Artest doing things like that for years and years. Yeah Artest could be a better fit, if that guy would learn to play his role. As in, 110% on defense, and don't worry about your offense. You're a gifted player, your points will come. But no, he has a 2 cent brain

I never said anybody will sign Artest for 12 mil, I said he WANTED 12 mil. Personally I'll just offer him a contract of 9 million and nothing more. But I think the 12 million price tag is just the agent's way of overshooting in the first meeting then negotiating a fairer price. Plus, we could always entice Artest with a chinese shoe contract.

I have never heard of any Laker player getting something off Hollywood. Do you have any examples? I know for a fact that Battier, Hayes, Bonzi Wells all got shoe contracts in china, heck I think even Adelman got one.

LO has his own clothing line..Elton brand was a producer & did all his work in LA. BD got a contract with jenny craig....Luke has his own restaurant

Artest wants to be a rapper/ artist...and the maximum exposure you can get is in LA...

Actually i believe the maximum exposure would be playing next to two of the three or four biggest stars in the league at this moment (note I didn't say best). Playing next to Shaq/Bron is going to bring in uncharted revenue for any player that wants to play in Cleveland.

I'm sure there's international exposure for scrubs in Cleveland of all places :oldlol:

Webber has a restaurant in Sac. Why doesn't Artest go there? Bowen has a upscale salon & spa as well as a high-end boutique in San Antonio. Maybe he should come to SA.

Last year someone said they saw Elton Brand at a gas station and they told him that the Clippers had signed Baron Davis and everyone laughed at him and look it actually happened, I learned to not doubt anyone.

Dude........ Maybe you had a source. Couldn't you WAIT? Your credibility is being flushed down the toilet at every single thing you write on this site.

You should have starting saying "Inside source of my say Artest signed with the Lakers along with Odom"... You talk like it is official, it is not, your source might be wrong, a guy might have lied to you and you believed...

Ron Artest want to be a rapper so he want to move to LA because of that? Are you KIDDING ME?
I don't think you have a grasp of how these stuff works, I think you're either too naive or too young, probably both.

If Artest doesn't end up on the Lakers, say bye-bye to the original poster's reputation. Not like he had much of a reputation in the first place with a username like that. :lol

Id rather have Ariza. He's low maintenance and much younger. He's pretty good and still have upside. Though getting artest is not that bad. He provides toughness, something LA need. oh well, lets wait and see

If the Lakers are unable to sign Odom or Ariza, they might pursue Houston forward Ron Artest, who made $7.4 million last season but became more attractive to the Rockets almost overnight amid reports that center Yao Ming might miss next season because of a broken foot. (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers-kobe-bryant1-2009jul01,0,5024600.story)

This is the closest I have found on all the whole wide internetz.

If I am the Lakers, this is a way in which they could get some negotiating leverege over Ariza and his agent, David Lee. If the rumor is out there, I am sure they don't mind it flying aroudn out. (not that I beleive the original post)

You guys are at the luxury tax threshold without having signed Odom or Ariza who will both want bigger salaries than they had. Are the Lakers the Yankees now?

As long as Ariza or Odom don't get offers of over 9 million then Dr Buss will likely pay it.

Not going to read thru this thread of replies. Was this a guess or an actual inside source? Because not for nothing? My friend is a big Lakers fan and said after L.A won the championship they will keep Odom and go after Artest who said he would take less money to play for the Lakers. I told him he was nuts because Artest taking less? Nah. He'll demand just enough where Lakers cant afford him. Well look at what happened.

Was this the same thing?
Was this just a guess that came true?
Or do you know someone?

Again, not reading this entire thread to find the answers. And not here to slam you for calling it. Just curious.

I have been here for on this forum for 3 or more years i guess....I never created threads like this. My friend told me about this cause the lakers were concern about who will be guarding Melo/PP/ Lebron.....

so this came from my friend....
