Do you shoot like Gannon Baker? (If you don't know how he shoots, watch the first few seconds of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMKt5e8tqJQ&feature=PlayList&p=242F45F99EFB6CA5&index=25\) clip.)

Do you shoot like Ray Allen? (shoot with all 5 fingers)
http://blog.masslive.com/parquetpride/2008/05/medium_Ray-Allen.jpg

Like Kobe?
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s98LW1lYkx4/Sb5lz8P7vsI/AAAAAAAAABU/KnJsFXeCajI/s400/Kobe%2BJumpshot.jpg

Like Derek Fisher?
http://blogs.pe.com/prosports/Derek%20Fisher.jpg

Like Nowitzki?
http://www.nancarrow-webdesk.com/warehouse/storage2/2008-w16/img.199783_t.jpg

Or are you a one eyed shooter, like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDVXmaEXWOI&feature=related)?

EDIT: Also, do you hold your form until the ball hits the rim, or do you put your hands down right after you release?

I try to keep my index finger behind the ball when I raise it up. Then on my release, I think about having my index finger pointed right at the middle of the rim.

Sort of a cross between Arenas and TMac. I have a bad habit of kind of kicking out my right leg a bit when I shoot, and I occasionally use a kind of line drive delivery if I'm tired.

Ewww I hate Marions shot, if it goes in though I guess it doesn't matter.

IDK whos shot mine looks like. I know it's ugly though. My friends/team mates don't say anything because it goes in though, but I always hear it from the other teams. Kinda benefits me because they leave me open then when I drop 3-4 in a row they panic.

I elevate a lot on anything within 10 ft usually because it's in traffic or on someone. On an open look @ the elbow or beyond the arc I don't elevate so much. I guess my shot looks like boozers? I hate his form too

By text book, do you mean ball in front of the shoulder of your shooting arm (to the side of your head), elbow pointed straight. Follow through coming primarily from the thumb, index and middle finger? I think that's as text book as it gets. I try to follow those, but for some reason I feel my form is not so :hammerhead:

Same except my release point is way above the top of my head and I usually jump about a foot for my jump shots. It takes me at least second to shoot a successful three-pointer (from getting the ball off my dribble to actually releasing it). I am not a very fast shooter.

I dont know a NBA player who shoots like you, you hold the ball in front of your head. And your release is kind of weird, sloppy. *no offense* Your feet are pointed outside once your start shooting the ball. Pause it at 00:30 and you'll see.

Your elbow is also pointed to the outside, which means that your jumper isnt consistent. This is hard to explain, but I will try. If you start the shot, your (right because you are right handed) must be touching your hip. This is called the shot-pocked.
This way you make sure the shot is going to be the same over and over again. If you dont do this, your elbow will be in weird positions once you shoot, this leads to inconsistency.

Thank God, I found a video. WATCH IT - IT WILL HELP YOU A LOT - WATCH BOTH OF EM.

I dont say I can shoot equally well with either hand, but i am able to hit catch and shoot midrange jumpers with my right hand. Off the dribble is tougher. An advantage is that i am a good finisher with either hand and my right handed hook shot is butter.

I am a lefty.

lets just say if my left hand was slightly injured i would be able to still be effective on the court. but not as much, obviously.

But being able to shoot 3's with either hand would be awesome :applause:

true, he doesnt have perfect form himself. He also doesnt elevate on jumpshots.

But I still think this is a great video, and he knows a lot about shooting. It's his confidence that stands out.

I learned a lot from watching it for the first time.

.

then this will be a huge problem with me i walk with my feet pointed out :lol

its just natural to me after 22 years its gonna be hard for me to correct that problem

NY-Knicks
07-11-2009, 06:40 PM
I do not see that you shoot with two hands.
And the feet is tough to adjust, i know.

i had problems with my shot. in the beginning i placed my guide hand on the front part of the ball, which was basically blocking the shot, it limited my range. once i adapted i shot just like you, the elbow wasnt consistent, i now shot the ball from the right side of my face (weird i know), which made it tough to really aim for the hoop.

Now I do not do any of those things. My feet sometimes have to be adjusted too.

Your problem is that you are sloppy, and you are inconsistent. I hope for you that this can change even after 22 years :oldlol:

What bothers me is my shot is awlays changing trying to find that perfect one but rightnow the shot I have is working pretty okay with me but it's not your prototypical shot. I shoot it from the other side of my body on a pretty quick release than when it gets to my chest and shoulder I do the textbook release. use the same form every single time. This creates consistency, which is the most important thing as a shooter. You need to be consistent, that is not possible if you shoot different every single day.

My shot now i only look at it every once in a while to make sure the forms the same. Ive heards its like a lefty ray allen or a manu ginobli with lift. To get good form u can stick with on ur jumpshot what i did was break it down into three parts. The first part practice ur jumping motion leaving the ball down where u would catch it at and leave ur arms still (This makes sure ur legs are providing the lift and ur arms arent effected). Then practice bringin the ball up to where u would shoot it at faster and faster. These drills u can do with a medicine ball if u have one. Then practice shooting with just ur arms and with ur feet planted work ur way as far back as ur form will allow u. Then u can shoot where ur comfortable in ur regular jumpshot and once ur knocking down shoots there keep moving back as far as u can keeping ur form. Right now i can shoot threes just off my arms and i can shoot 28 footers and 3s feel effortless. And on ur left hand theres nothing really specific u can do just keep working on it
