View Full Version : Where will Shawn Marion sign?

Shawn Marion has really screwed himself over. Ric Bucher reports he turned down $35 million/5 year from Toronto. I had read Toronto was going to give him $8 million a year for 4 years.

Either way, doesn't matter, because that's gone. To sign Hedo Turkoglu, Toronto has to renounce rights to Marion. That means Marion will not be a Raptor. And that means no Sign and Trade with anyone else.

Now what? Where will he go? Memphis? OKC? Portland? Or will it be MLE time?

Boy, how his stock has fallen........

It really is sad how much he's gone down over these last 2 years. However, I wouldn't give him anything more than what Toronto offered.

MLE to NY or CLE...

You're just happy David Lee is running out of teams :lol

Oh, definitely!!!!! I was going to do a post about that with David Lee's options dwindling, but got lazy. :lol

Hey, I want Lee to stay, but at the right price. Looks like it could happen.

Marion would rejuvenate his NBA Career with the New York Knicks.

Yeah Knicks makes the most sense if they don't sign Kidd.

It's a shame he is always a whiner about his role/money. What a complex

it'd be funny if no team actually tried to sign him now.

wouldnt it?

Marion would rejuvenate his NBA Career with the New York Knicks.

There is no chance....well, very slim chance Marion joins Knicks.

Why? Because Knicks two young pieces for future, Chandler and Gallinari both play that same SF position. They don't want Marion blocking their development. It won't happen.

Chandler is probably better than Marion at this point.

Run n Gun he could play PF

It's just not gonna happen. Knicks have other needs. Need cap space for 2010. They have lots of SF/PF types. It just won't happen.

I have no idea what this guy is thinking. Turing down the deal from Toronto is borderline retarded. I cant imagine he thought his value was any higher than that. There are not many teams left that would need his services. I really dont think he is a great fit in Portland. Maybe he would be fit nicely alongside Chris Paul in NO? Ally oop dunks left and right

When will players learn that that most teams cannot offer above the MLE? If your own team offers you over the MLE, then you have to think long and hard before rejecting it. Because the market is just not big enough unless the year is 2010.

There was a rumor last season the Heat were trying to get him to opt out, and offered the same type of $8M over 4yr deal... but he held out for more claiming he wanted $10M for 5yrs.

I guess his lackluster season still hasn't changed his mind about what he values himself at.

Dang these fools should understand it's hard times out there for everyone. These guys don't want a couple millions. Imagine what ordinary people out there would do for that much.

New York does not want. Being that Toronto just signed Hedo, doubt they'd pick up Marion as well. I think he's headed back to Miami or Phoenix.

I wish he would come back to the Suns. He will always be a Sun to me although the Suns will not be signing him. He burned too many bridges with Sarver and the other goon.

Knicks would be a good fit but I dont know his relationship with Dantoni. He is still a very good player so he could really help out the right team.

If he wants $10 million a year I don't think the Cavaliers will be signing him. The most they can offer is a full MLE I believe.

I'd like to see the Celts chase him with the MLE, provided his ideas on what a great player he is don't make him think he should be a featured offensive player, which appears to be the case.

I'm sure Marion's agent will be pushing Blazers hard. But I don't see it happening. Marion isn't a Pritchard type of guy.

Minnesota, OKC or Memphis could use him, but the question is at what price are they willing to spend.

Blazers play enough of a transition game that Marion would be effective... but they have bigger issues to fix before getting someone like Marion.

They honestly needed someone else who could create shots (either PG or point forward) rather than a defensive stopper & rebounder who has to play off of Roy like the rest of the team.

My concern as a Knicks fan is that Pritchard goes hard after David Lee.

Even though it makes no logical sense, since they have Aldridge, Oden, and Pryzbilla as big men...but Pritchard has a man-crush on David Lee. I wouldn't be surprised if he offers Lee $10 million a year, just to see what will happen and force Knicks to match.

I wish Portland signed Hedo........

I'll be honest, I've read a ton about David Lee and I've seen some of his play, but the most I've seen him play was in the Rookie / Sophomore game in which he scored a ton of points - does anyone think he can play small forward? Offensively? Defensively??

I'd say no. He's not a quick defender. Guys will blow by him at the SF position. He's a natural PF, but Knicks played him at C.

Offensively, he doesn't have the most reliable jumpshot as a SF.

With Hedo going to Toronto hopefully we can get Marion, and as a backup, Anthony Parker

It would make sense for Portland to add Marion, but I just get the feeling Pritchard wouldn't want him.
