None of this stuff really matters but here's the deal. Neither Kobe nor Jordan are 6'6". They're high 6'4" to about 6'5". Magic is about 6'5". That dude never sniffed 6'9". That's just part of his "legend". None of it matters because he was still one of the best and Jordan is the best and Kobe is great regardless of his height. Dwight Howard isn't 6'10". He's 6'9" something. I know that because I'm friends with Jameer and he told me that Turkoglu was a legit 6'10" and Howard wasn't. With Howard it's pretty obvious when he plays against taller players. Magic was taller than most point guards of his day so people just believed that crap. Hakeem and Mourning were only 6'10" and Barkley was just under 6'5". I've met Barkely several times and played winter league basketball with a guy that played on the Sixers for four years with Barkely. Again, the most important thing is that the real height of any of these players is unimportant. They were/are all good regardless.

pretty much^^^^^

The heights we commonly see on their cards and websites are all messed up. They re either in shoes or not in shoes.

I tell you what though, it makes me feel a little better though. If Kobe is only 6'4....I'm not giving up too many inches to him and probably have the same armspan. Oooooh how I would love to swat the dudes shot just ONCE

No, he's about 6'5". When he had Howard Stern on his TV show years ago they were the same height and Stern is is 6'5". It was funny because Drew Carrey was on the show and they were taking questions and Drew Carrey asked Magic why he was listed at 6'9" but was the same height as Howard. Magic didn't reply and they cut to commercial.

6'4 and 3/4 is basically 6'5 without shoes. Once you put your sneaks on, you are legit 6'6.

Magic appears to be at least 2 inches taller than Kobe, so in shoes he has to be between 6'8 and 6'9 during his playing days. Yes, height get exaggerated, but to make Magic 6'5 is probably going a bit too far.

Kobe is actually 6-5 but It doesn't really matter how tall magic is, if your half a foot taller than other point guards, no need to be any taller. and if hes 6-7 or 6-9 hes still at least half a foot taller than everyone.

EVERY basketball player ON THE PLANET is listed by his size with shoes on. i am 6'1 1/4 and i was listed at 6'2. With my shoes on, i am still 6'2. i tell people i am 6'2. thats just how its done.

In pics, we dont know who is slumping, on tippy toes, shifted their weight, slightly closer or further from the camera, etc.

You can adjust your height quite a bit based on those things i justnoted.

Anyone crying "magic was only 6'5" is a MORON.

Standing reach and wingspan are probably a better indicator than actual height. Ralph Sampson, who was listed at 7-4 (and as other's have pointed out here was probably 7-2) had very short arms. Bill Russell, at 6-10, reportedly had a taller standing reach than 7-2 Kareem.

Of course, then you can add the element of athleticism. A 6-5 player with a vertical of 44" will probably reach higher levels than a 6-10 player with a 34" vertical. Here again, though, you have to factor in wingspan, and standing reach, though.

The problem is some players had their measures done with shoes and others with shoes off. So it gives an erroneus

Barkley was 6`4 3/4 and with shoes on around 6`5 3/4-6`6
Magic was not 6`9 but around 6`7 1/2 to 6`7 3/4 same height as Pippen but way bulkier. That is what sometimes makes you look taller.

Bird was closer to 6`9 1/2 than 6`9
Karl Malone was just about 6`9 (little less maybe but over 6`8 3/4)

Tim Duncan is 6`11 1/2 as i always said watching him play. So he should be listed at 7`0 but he isn`t

Kevin Garnett is 7`0 1/4 around there but he doesn`t like to admit it. Actually that makes his old time game more impressive.

Just watch the games. So u can compare the players when they go by each other its easy to determine height.

Pau Gasol is close to 7`2 atleast. Bynum is a legit 7`0 ft dude.

Howard is 6`9 3/4 (yes and Bill Russell was 6`10 not 6`9..."That`s just to make his rebounding vs Wilt more special...but hey height isn`t everything to the game...it helps but its not a total factor)

Like these there are many....

All NBA Players lie about their height (or so I've been told). Kobe is typically listed as 6'7'' & people are said to shrink as they get older so it is possible that Magic may have lost an inch or so with old age.
6'7? The boy's 6'5" and 6'6" with shoes...

i think these threads where players, standing from different angles, spots, posture are used to judge. you can literally pull 12 pictures together and go "look, kobes shorter than so and so here", "so and so is shorter than so and so here" and then come to the conclusion by the 12th picture that kobe is 5'11. :oldlol:

During the Michael Jackson Memorial, Magic was standing next to a 6'4" Kobe Bryant and didn't look more than an inch taller than him. I thought he was 6'9"?

Pic or it didn't happen

Yao doesnt look an inch taller than Boykins, he must be 5'5''

this is a photoshop you nimrod. Either that or Boykins has a freak extra arm sticking out of his right hip and that extra arm has the exact same shape and texture, except scaled down, of his right arm.

Decided to do some fact checking after reading this thread and all the various height claims for different players.

Dwight Howard really did measure out at 6'9 without shoes (6'10 and quarter with) pre-draft in '04. I guess I must have forgotten about that. Always assumed he was a legit 6'11.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=2004&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Didn't see his name come up in this thread, but I know his height is much debated. Tracy McGrady measured at 6'6 and a half without shoes in '97 (no with shoe height listed, 6'8 is safe to assume). From the same draft, something I found interesting: Billups a legit 6'3 without shoes.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1997&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Mutombo measured 7'1 and quarter without shoes in '91. LJ was 6'5 and a half without shoes.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1991&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

My boy Oliver Miller was a svelte 318 pre-draft in '92. :oldlol: 22% body fat. Also, some guy named Shaq measured 7'1 without shoes.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1992&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Shawn Bradley was a legit 7'5 and a half sans shoes in '93. That's a whole lotta Mormon right there. But only stacked high, not wide. 248 pounds. Damn, I've high like 243 at my highest and I'm only 5'9.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1993&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Grant Hill 6'8 without shoes in '94. Interesting.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1994&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Garnett was 6'11 without shoes in '95. Steve Nash - 6'1 without shoes (I see a lot of 6'3 but I guess that's okay with shoes).

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1995&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Rashard Lewis weighing 190 coming into the league. Yikes.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1998&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Elton Brand was 6'8 and a quarter without shoes. I've seen a lot of people say he was closer to 6'7 or high 6'6.

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?page=&year=1999&source=All&sort2=ASC&draft=100&pos=0&sort=

Shane Battier was 6'8 and a quarter without shoes. 6'9 and a half with. Wow. That's surprising.

NBA players heights are not exaggerated they list their height with shoes rounded up kobe is 6'4 3/4 so he is 6'5 3/4 listing 6'6 thats legit dwade is 6'3 3/4 without shoes 6'4 3/4 with shoes so his listed heights 6'5 lebron is 6'7 1/2 i think so he is listed at 6'9 someone that confuses me is elton brand he is 6'9 1/2 with shoes thats half and inch shorter than dwight i don't know why people would call him undersized. Brand should be listed at 6'10 heres another interesting one Bosh is 7 feet he is 6'11 1/2 with shoes.
So magic is 6'6 3/4 without shoes 6'7 3/4 with shoes he would be listed as 6'8 but like some other people said he could of lost height due to age so yea i would say he is 6'9. You don't need picture check there draft combine numbers

Both Bosh and KG like to pretend they're not seven footers, because they think they will be considered better players if they're thought of as being under 7', even though they are 7 footers. It's to avoid having to play center since they aren't that good at it.

When there's at least 5-8 all time centers clearly better than them, they wanna be called PFs since they might crack the top 5 then. Well Bosh won't, not even top 10, in KG's case though he will. If he was a C he'd be lucky to be top 10 ever.

If Bosh is 7' then Gasol is 7'2". Gasol towered over him in that funny interview Bosh did with him. Gasol also has about an inch on KG.

I hope the NBA would measure their players height in the off season.

Some young NBA players are still growing because their growth plates are still open.

For Example.

David Noel was measured at 6'4.5" in the NBA Pre Draft Camp, but he was measured at 6'5" (without shoes) in the PBA.

Kobe is 6-4 1/2 barefoot according to his mugshot. So 6-6 in shoes.

Magic was listed by FIBA at 6-7 3/4 in shoes. So he was really 6-8 and not 6-9. Just another NBA exaggeration.

If you look at him next to Bird in almost all images he is shorter than Bird is.

Total bull shit. I have seen that clip. First, Stern was wearing boots and Magic was wearing dress shoes. Second, Stern's hair was sticking way up and Magic is bald. Third, they were not "eye to eye" as Stern claimed. Magic was a good inch taller than him, at least.

So if Stern is 6-5 barefoot as he claims, then Magic is at least 6-7 barefoot.

I am 6'4", barefoot. I have stood next to Barkley a couple of times, and he is, is 6'6"+ in shoes, seeming to be around 6'7". People now exaggerate how tall he isn't.

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/graphics/packageart/mugshots/barkleymug.jpg

Yep, Barkley is 6-7 barefoot according to his mug shot. Those are very accurate, much more than any NBA draft measurement or listing, because they have to get them right.

Anyone that has been arrested before knows that they measure you straight against the wall and they deduct your shoes and hair in the measurement, so the height they get is your actual height.

It's all just PR by the NBA to make you go oooo and ahhhh, everyone knows that height is over the top. shaq 7'1?!? more like 6'10. Also kobe is about 6'4 at most and wade is 6'2. I reckon Nate robinson is about 5'5 which would make mugsy bogues about 4'11.

Last night local Dallas sports guys were on TV and one of them said that Brandon Bass is not 6'8 as listed but really 6'6.

NBA players have false heights listed ALL the time.

Hell, ALL major athletic team sports seem to. In high school, my playing size magically gained two inches and thirty pounds on gameday.

The military sometimes does the opposite. When I joined the military they deducted 6 inches and 70 pounds from me in order to make "uniform statistics". That just goes to show you how much bull shit there is in stats and that's what people like to use to prove things.

TRUE 6`6 (1.98 mt) was:

Dan Majerlie and Mark Aguirre

Jordan and Barkley where both 6`4 3/4, so is Bryant: round up 6`5

Magic was 6`7 1/2 but he had a bulcky upper body and torso so looked taller

Magic`s height was hyped up because he played and ball handled like a 6`1 dude.

Barkley`s was lifted to 6`6 because they wanted to size him up for the NBA: most didn`t believe he could play PF at 6`4 3/4.
