I heard that his balls slammed into both of Bron's eyes. So hard that, now each eye is a half inch further back in his head.

Sadly, his court vision will be permanently messed up.

But the thing is, i'm not even a Kobe fan.. but damn this is just pathetic of Bron. He makes immensely more money than the guy, is wildly popular, and is at worst considered the 2nd best player in the league (the best by most), and yet his ego wouldn't allow him to let the guy have his 15 seconds of fame on youtube. Pathetic.

Jesus, it's not like he ****ing murdered someone. The only significant effect that the leaking of the video could have would be the hyping of Jordan. It's not like people are going to stop supporting LeBron James, the best player in the NBA, because he got dunked on during a pick-up game.

Actually, I pretty much agree with you. Just because he got dunked on, it's not like his fans will just suddenly take a huge dump on him. Sure, the people who saw it may have gone "OMFG!!! DID YOU F***ING SEE THAT?!? THAT WAS OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG", but damn, that happens! I don't think anyone goes "Oh! Erick Dampier got dunked on by Earl Boykins. His career is over." whenever it happens. Well, it's partly due to the fact that we can see that in almost every Dallas game, but still.

Yet when Lebron hits trick shots and its caught on camera? A huge deal is made about it. Dispite the fact numerous NBA players have done it, just never recorded it. :confusedshrug:

How often does a youngster dunk on a professional basketball player that is considered one of the games biggest freaks of nature in NBA history? If it wasnt a big deal why would the video footage be hidden to the public? I bet if Bron hit a shot from the bleachers while sitting down? A big deal would be made. Yup. In fact I remember Jordan got blocked by a counselor at one of his camps, then i think the guy actually scored on him right afterwards. you have to consider that these superstars aren't exactly going full force at these camps and probably assume that the invites wont take advantage of that fact against the guy that signs their checks. It's sad that the PR people had to take the tape, they probably made this a bigger deal that it should have been. But then people on the internet will literally take anything and turn it in to some kind of dis on the player. Just look at the constant stream of players in sexual positions we get from knuckleheads on this site.

Anyways. random pic.

The only reason this is a story is because Nike/LeBron overreacted and took the tapes. Nobody would have thought less of Bron just because he got dunked on. When Lebron dunks on someone we have threads, .gifs, photos and then rank it among season dunks.

When Lebron gets dunked on, well we get the lectures of "people get dunked on all the time. no big deal.".

I find it amusing. haha

Its impossible for Nike to confiscate "ALL" tapes, lol. What about the digitally recorded stuff? If this happened. There is some footage.

How did they do it? Did they make people surrender their cell phone footage too? Did they check people at the door for video cameras or their digi cams?

I'm not even disputing that LeBron got dunked on. I'm just wondering about this tape claim. That sounds fishy.

Definately a possibility or the Nike confiscated all tapes claim was a "joke" that grew legs as being real to someone.

Found something cool related to this on the i-net
-"I'm wondering if LeBron reacted like Wilt Chamberlain did when a similar thing happened to him in the legendary Ruckers summer league---

"People still talk about the time I (Connie Hawkins) went up and hook-dunked over Wilt Chamberlain in the Rucker," he said, "but that was only the start of the story. That hook-dunk over Wilt got him mad, then Jackie Jackson really got Wilt mad. Jackie was one of the great leapers. I've seen him leap and snatch a quarter off the top of the backboard.

"After my hook-dunk, Jackie told me to let Wilt take that fadeaway one-hander that banked high off the backboard, and when Wilt put the ball up there, Jackie leaped and trapped it, pinning it against the backboard.

"Everybody hollered and screamed, but Wilt called time out. Wilt didn't say anything, but when we looked over, we could see him glaring at us. The next 10 times down the court, Wilt said, 'Gimme the ball' and he dunked it every time. Hard. One time he dunked the ball so hard, it bounced up over a 15-foot fence. Wilt didn't like to be shown up."

Poor move on Nike's part though, wtf were they thinking? Give the kid his fame, and move on with it.

Iverson was real. He was hood. The league even tried to stop his interviews when he first got out. He spoke real ghetto. He'll say whatever on his mind. He didn't give a flying f**K. But his popularity got so high that it didn't matter.

LBJ cares about his image, interviews, advertisements. He says things that's good for his advertisements. His ADVERTISEMENTS!!!!! That's why he want that clip taken out. There's a difference on how these two create a negative image of themselves.

I meant to bold "Sounds fishy" which is why i said definately a possibility. Maybe someone response/reaction was "Nike just took all the tapes to that!" said in jest yet was taken serious by someone. And here we are in a thread slamming Nike/Bron for "tapes" we cant see. Maybe nothing was recorded to begin with? :confusedshrug:

Another thing is it could have been restricted as far as taping went? Like we may assume other folks were recording but maybe it was limited?

Lol, Just imagine how funny it would be if it got leaked and it wasnt even over Lebron, but Lebron was a couple feet away from him when he dunked it.

But what would make that more funny, the fact that we overhyped it, or the fact that Lebron made them take away a video of someone with some weak ass dunk with him nearby?

I seen this earlier... I think its hysterical for a number of reasons

1. lebron gets more press coverage than obama
2.its not the first time a star gets banged on and the tape disappears...jj hickson yammed on dwayne wade this past season and a few plays later wade blocked hicksons dunk attempt.....guess which one is on youtube?
3.if you not a cavs fan how do you know all this stuff? Do u google stuff?
4.it could not have taken place in akron...he was in idaho with dan gilbert at some big elite gathering
Yeah Wade confiscated all the tapes and recordings made of that match :hammerhead:

Not even remotely similar.

It was during his Skills Academy which I believe is organized by Nike.

They probably made people sign agreements regarding what they're allowed to film, who they can interview etc.

Since nothing they film is broadcasted live on TV it's easy for them to stop the video before it hits youtube.

One of those who had his material pried away was freelancer Ryan Miller, who said Nike Basketball Senior Director Lynn Merritt snagged his tape seemingly at the behest of King James himself. Talking to Gary Parrish at CBS Sports, Miller states:
"He just said, 'We have to take your tape.' They took it from other guys, too. LeBron called Lynn over and told him something. That's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.'"

Soon after, Miller was forced to part with his prized footage even though he had been filming at the Academy all day without incident. The cameraman added, "There's nothing I can think of besides LeBron just not wanting it online."

Another non-story that is only making headlines because it is LeBron. It sounds greatly exaggerated, all the way around. I have a hard time believing that LeBron had a hand in confiscating any and all recordings of the event. Everyone gets dunked on and it wouldn't be the first time for LeBron.

If Nike decided to confiscate all of the recordings because they felt it was embarrassing to LeBron, they did him a great disservice, because I highly doubt it was as bad as people imagine it to be after all of the hype that it has received.

Again, though... Don't believe everything you read. How do we even know that there were cameras at this thing? It sounds awfully vague and contrived. I don't doubt LeBron was dunked on. I do have my doubts that there is some sort of conspiracy to have all evidence destroyed.

LeBron has gotten a lot of bad press lately. This relative non-issue was one of the headlines on ESPN.com today and it was a topic discussed on PTI, Around the Horn, etc. I don't know how the myth that LeBron is catered to by the media can persist when tiny events like this one that the reporting of which may or may not be accurate are driven into the ground by the same networks that apparently worship said player.

Like I've said before... The only thing that the American media likes more than building up a hero is tearing them down. You are starting to see the beginnings of this with LeBron. They are literally crawling all over him, waiting for him to make minor slip ups so that they can pounce.

Sad part is most people are indiffernt to Lebron...He evokes no emotion and this is a bad thing for the game. Soon Kobe will be gone and "this" is all we will be left with....its actually quite sad. With all the commercials, all the shoes, all the press he still isnt dominating by far the dominating NBA personality...

The reason this is big is b/c he has a history of acting like a spoiled *****...He does many little spoiled ***** attention whoring moves...That is who is and people are starting to see it. But unlike Kobe he doesnt inspire with his game and skill...its either you dont like him or your indifferent to him...Even today when Kobe is pretty much a jumpshooter kids are out there trying to be like Kobe and ignoring Lebron...

NBA is in bad hands because no one likes watching Lebron's ugly game and non-existent personality....People are starting to get sick of the constant..."My legacy" talk doing post game conferences etc...Stop worrying about crafting you legacy and get in the damn post win a championship.

But unlike Kobe he doesnt inspire with his game and skill...its either you dont like him or your indifferent to him...Even today when Kobe is pretty much a jumpshooter kids are out there trying to be like Kobe and ignoring Lebron...
...and this has what to do with my post? I mean... I appreciate your thoughts on why exactly you hate all things LeBron, but why quote my post on how the media operates to let these thoughts loose?

I could respond in kind and make a list of the reasons why Kobe is hated by a lot of people, but I don't see what it has to do with the conversation at hand.

Kids emulate Kobe because he has a prettier jumper than LeBron... OK... :confusedshrug:

Deeply hurt? I didn't say there was a conspiracy against LeBron. Pease re-read my post. In fact, I said the opposite... The purported conspiracy is some pro-LeBron confiscation and destruction of any and all evidence of a single play. That is the conspiracy being discussed... Yet people seem to buy into it as though it is absolute fact because some random attendee said so.

I honestly do not care if this was the worst facial in the history of basketball. It isn't going to hurt my view of LeBron as a player in the least, so who cares?

Actually, regardless of how bad it is, it likely would not live up to people's expectations now that it has gotten the amount of press that it has. That was my point. I don't doubt that it was a nasty posterization, but how many basketball facials do you see garnering 8-page threads and top headlines on ESPN.com?

It better be akin to VC jumping over that 7-footer or it will not live up to the hype. That is the point.

Again... You missed the point. I'm not saying that LeBron hasn't done things to open the door to criticism. I'm saying that if networks (most notably ESPN) were as biased toward LeBron and so afraid to say anything negative about the guy (as many like to argue), then this story would not be as discussed as it has been in the last 24 hours or so. They are lighting the fire under this discussion.

Also, there is no doubt that the media is crawling all over LeBron. How many times have you seen athletes criticized for their choice of t-shirts? It just doesn't happen all that often... Check that... I can't remember it ever happening before.

How so? because Nike had to confiscate a tape because they weren't suppose to be filming in the first place? Lebron is actually pretty mature for someone his age and the success he has had. Any law trouble like a lot of young athletes these days?

Right... This is what I am thinking. So, there aren't supposed to be tapes of the camp... Maybe someone had a recorder setup and they were told it wasn't allowed. This turned into a big conspiracy theory about LeBron and Nike working in unison to destroy all evidence of a play... It just sounds far-fetched and your explanation seems more likely.

Then again, a lot of people obviously want to believe that there is some wide-ranging conspiracy, so it doesn't matter what people say.

LeBron would be best off, at this point, by forcing the release of the tape. It might initially gain some laughs, but people would soon forget about it. With the way it is now, people's imaginations are running wild, which makes it seem much worse than it probably was.

What conspiracy? Where is the video then? Nike themselves stated that there were video cameras filming, even though apparently they weren't supposed to be; which I also doubt.

"Nike has been operating basketball camps for the benefit of young athletes for decades and has long-standing policies as to what events are open and closed to media coverage. Unfortunately, for the first time in four years, two journalists did not respect our no videotaping policy at an after-hours pickup game following the LeBron James Skills Academy," said Nike spokesman Derek Kent on Wednesday.

From what I have heard the dunk happened in the beginning of the game. Even if the rules are broken, the timing and the events surrounding the confiscation are what bother people. It's disingenuous to paint this incident as just being a matter of following the rules, ignoring the circumstances that led up to it. It's like a ref tripping and falling over and seeing a bench player laugh at him, see's that his toe is on the court and calls a T on him. You can quote rules all day long if you want, still doesn't make it any less a douche move.

Are you honestly saying that the dunk had nothing to do with the confiscation? Or are you justifying the act because there were rules set in place beforehand, and the motivation to do so is to be ignored?

Sad part is most people are indiffernt to Lebron

Yeah, that explains why the highest rated non-National TV playoff game in league history was a Cleveland game from this year's ECF.

He evokes no emotion

Yet every little thing he does is talked about everywhere. Be it the media or the message boards. Doesn't matter if it's an on-court story or something off-court. If it's LeBron, it's going to be talked about everywhere. The guy is the biggest, most talked about star in the league today. If he wasn't, nobody would give a sh!t about what jersey he had on or who dunked on him. Besides, a Kobe fanboy should be the last person saying LeBron doesn't evoke emotion. Nobody is more emotional about LeBron than LA fans. I'm telling you, LA fans around the net celebrated Cleveland's playoff exit more than LA winning the actual championship. It's downright amazing the effect LeBron has on LA fans. They are going nuts even over this latest story. I would've thought Kobe winning a championship would've made 'em a bit more secure. Guess I was wrong.

Soon Kobe will be gone and "this" is all we will be left with

What really is there to see from their perspective? I don't think anyone thinks that Nike doesn't have a motivation to take the tapes. Image protection is important for them. If their star athlete asks that tapes be confiscated they better hop to it.

In your view they never wanted anyone to tape, just didn't notice the two guys taping, LeBron just happened to notice them taping right after he was dunked on and called over the Nike guy to take the tapes? How is that an objective view of the events?

haha I wish I knew someone at this camp...Jeff needs to start interviewing people so the LEGEND can grow...

Maybe they can do a reenactment of the event...

The only way I could see this helping LeBron is if for his next Nike commercial they show the actual dunk followed by LeBron saying Where Amazing Happens. Then give the tape back to the journalists.

maybe it wasen't strictly forced, like security guard is going to come and kick you out, but I'm sure there was a rule in place. Since its James camp he probably told them to get rid of the cameras.

I for one find it totally believable that they had a no after hours taping rule in place. It's like a insider only event not for everyone's eyes. But either way I think the issue is moot, it still doesn't make it cool for LeBron to ask for the tapes to be confiscated after he was embarrassed.

At UCLA during the summers there are legendary pick up games that involve players from all levels of basketball that are not open to the public. Sometimes people can sneak in and watch them even though technically they're not supposed to be there. Don't you think it's kind of crappy for an nba player to kick someone out of the gym just because they saw them get embarrassed? It's the rules yeah, but it's a petty thing to do.

I've said it before, I don't think this is that big a deal. But let's not completely whitewash it.

Your trying hard...But you really know the deal...Your like an abused wife post ass wooping from her husband, and received a black eye, but keeps telling her friends that he means no harm by it, and his hand slipped, and he was drunk, and he loves me....

Dude, the camermen said theyt were shooting ALL DAY, but soon after that dunk happend, MJ pulled his Nike man aside and told him to grip the tapes...Soon after that, they weren't allowed to shoot their cams anymore...

aight whatever, I admit LeBron was a chump for stealing the tapes, but I honestly believe Nike doesn't allow filming those after-hour games.

Rules? Policy? He was allowed in the building with the camera. He was allowed to use said camera. The use was tolerated all day during camp. And only afterward, once the dunk happened and Lebron took the guy aside did they ask for the tape. So no, they didn't have rules or policy because they weren't doing anything to enforce it all day long, AND they didn't ask them to stop taping after the camp had concluded.

The only way I can see him spin the whole situation in his favor would be to say that the tapes were never confiscated because of a dunk. And then show everybody what's on the tape and hope that the dunk was super super lame and not even performed on him.

Otherwise he's fu@#ed. :lol

Anyway... This doesn't change the fact that LeBron James is one of the Best Player's In The Game, and will one day IMO, be the Greatest Player To ever grace the NBA hardwood...This doesn't change the fact that LeBron "King" James is coming off of an NBA MVP...This doesn't change the fact that he put up Super Great Number's vs the Orlando Magic during the playoffs...

He's still the future ATM, and he's doing a dam good job at proving to me that the NBA has a Very Bright future...Yes, he's going through the off-court Bone head BS, but so did Kobe and Jordan....

LeBron is just taking his much deserved knock on this topic...Even the most Homered out LeBron Powder Boy will admit that what LeBron did was kinda gay...And I would Kill Kobe the same way im doing LeBron...FACT. Like how I killed Kobe for choking our 04' Championship title away because he wanted all the glory and acted like a f*cking immature brat b!tch...

Yeah, that explains why the highest rated non-National TV playoff game in league history was a Cleveland game from this year's ECF.

The guy is the biggest, most talked about star in the league today.

Yeah, the league's going to miss those single digit TV ratings of the the last 2 NBA Finals :oldlol:

The bold is pure comedy. What's sad is that you excuse Lebron developing a bleeding hole between his legs. When worst comes to worst though, the only *******s acknowledging this bitch move by Lebron/Nike are Kobe fans. Your knees must be sore. Stand up.

On another note, I almost forgot how beautifully the ratings blossomed in the Cavs/Spurs Finals. Wait...

then suddenly on the night Lebron gets dunked on not one but two camera men suddenly break this policy at the same time...

Who cares?

LeBron get's dunked on and is ****ing embarrassed. Not a big deal......anybody here who has played ball here knows how bad it is to get dunked on.....it's probably the worst thing that can happen to you on the court. I don't blame him for not letting that tape get out.

That being said, it's not a life or death situation...he should let the tape leak or something and just laugh it off...still on the best players in the world and the other kid is not lol

we all know lebron is a prima donna (alot of stars are)
we all know nike is trying to insulate him from bad PR (they have failed miserably on that front today)

they should have just pulled the camera men aside asked then how much for the tape, doubled it, paid them off and asked them back to do some more filiming the next day.
end of problem, the camera men go out and blow the cash on a big expensive dinner and go to bed sated and drunk, nike gets the tapes and has a alibi, "hey they do good work we even asked them back for the next day!" and lebron is a happy camper

You just debated yourself...He should have let the cameraman keep it, and it would be leaked out, and it's not LIFE OR DEATH, so he would just laugh at it and still be one of the Best in the Wordl and the Kid, not so much, but a proud day...

Seems more luck than anything. I only know two people who have watched games and both were by luck. One was a student at ucla at the time walking by the gym and I guess they opened a door for ventilation, he just walked in to see what was going on and saw reggie miller and some ucla guys playing a pick up game. The other was on campus as part of a job interview and caught a game with a retired magic and some nba players.

Nah, nah, nah. I'm saying......it is one of the worst feelings ever playing basketball to get dunked on. Thankfully, it has never happened to me but almost. If it was being recorded....the first thing that would come to mind is "damn, I don't want anybody to see that"....why? it's embarrassing as hell lol

At the same time, you gotta realize, it's just a game and you being embarrassed or getting shown up is part of the game. His emotions after getting dunked on are normal...but you still gotta control them and laugh it off or forget it in the end. If you don't, you will continue to feel worse and worse if things like this happen again......Understand?
