Got the idea from the Fantastic 4 thread.
My personal favorite is Two Face. His background and the reason he became the way he is, the way he relies on chance. His character is just awesome.
And please, don't base it off the movies, because as we all know, the movies until Nolan took over were pretty bad, well except the Tim Burton ones.

Not the retarded muscle head depicted in that abomination 'Batman and Robin'. Bane was really intelligent, cunning, and ****ing broke Batman's back.
And of course...

Azrael aka Jean Paul Valley as Batman (when Batman came back to get his cowl forcefully becuase Azrael had gone insane becoming Batman and started killing villians)

I loved his alternate custom after he became good again and his own comic came to life...

Bane (especially after we got beat by Azrael and came off the super-soldier serum Venom)

One of the creepiest Batman villains. I think it's feasible to see him as a side-villain in Batman 3 (if it gets made).

Same to you, I had that Knightfall series when I was younger. Azrael was a bad dude, especially how he handled Bane. That was quality

It wasn't as bad as Batman & Robin, but it still was really bad. Made me feel like I was watching 1960s Batman

Yep. I still have Azrael #1, Robin #1 from around the time that happened. Including the whole Knightfall and Knight's End series.

It definitely is getting made. Rumors said filming might begin this year in the summer (although I doubt it). Also Johnny Depp has been rumored as the Riddler, which I think is an awesome pick for the character. The rumored title of the film is "The Caped Crusader"

I do have to say I'm surprised no one has said the Riddler yet.
He's my 2nd favorite. Really hoping Johnny Depp is cast as him in the next movie b/c it would finally be a Riddler done right.
Jim Carey was good, but he made Riddler seem gay.

Ras Al Ghul is as much a cartoonish super-villian as anyone else.
and the Joker is not cartoonish at all. He is one sick, sadistic son-of-a-b*tch.

The Joker is just lame. I would have killed him a long time ago, and moved the hell on. Ras has a higher calling. He is a patriot in the cause of The Earth itself. He should be applauded for his cause.

They all have a pretty realistic story as to how they came to be, of course with the exception of R'as al Ghul. Every Batman character could realistically exist in the real world and that is part of what makes Batman so great

You severely underestimate the Joker.
but I think Dasher is only saying these things to piss people off, because clearly you know a good deal of comics and you know what the Joker is capable of.

I don't understand; wouldn't Batman himself be considered cartoonish? If your criteria for a good villain is based on realism, why do you allow a pass for the main protagonist?

if he wants realism, he shouldnt be looking towards superhero comics. what was he expecting, the great gatsby?

yeah, the 90's redesigned alot of classic costumes to fit the "edgy" and "extreme" attitude of those days. glad they are over.
