I don't get it. Could someone tell me why she's famous? (except for having released a sex tape of course...)

Socialite? Her dad was on the defense team in the OJ Simpson case? Her step-dad is Bruce Jenner, USA Olympic athlete? It is like asking why Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are famous. Pretty much, their parents!

They are famous because teeny-boppers will swallow anything you throw at them. Same reason talentless bubble gum pop "bands" sell their "music". Same reason why the reality tv nonsense continues unabated.

I fail to see what purpose Kardashian, Hilton, Richie, Lohan, etc., serve.

Lohan doesn't belong in that group. The others are newly famous cuz of their parents/looks but Lindsay's been famous for a looooong time. Back when she did Parent Trap in the 90s. She was actually one of the more popular/respected kid actresses for a long time before she became this big papparazi subject but then she got caught up with the wrong crowd and suddenly people decided she can't act anymore (she's actually a pretty good actress when she tries)
