Where are you from?

Money problems, I'm sure they will be back next year, the NBL has finally gone through a much needed restructure and it's just a matter of time and money.

With the new FIBA rules and less teams for now, the talent pool isn't as spread and most teams are stacking up, I hope it's the turn around the league needed to take it back to being a viable sports league in Australia, hopefully our blog can keep you updated and entertained.

I was hoping that ONE would sign the NBL rather then Fox Spots since I don't have Foxtel anymore, but that was not to be.

Yeah, that sucks given that ONE played a decent amount of NBA and College basketball finals. But given that the NBL needed the money from what I assume is an exclusive TV deal with Fox I think it has to be this way.

There were mutterings of teams broadcasting games locally but I think the TV deal could negate that.

Big_Dogg
08-12-2009, 08:34 PM
The good news is the deal with Fox is only for one year, if the teams from Sydney and Brisbane allegedly come back into the league then it may give more bargaining power to get a better TV deal.

I wish I could watch NBL, but it's not on free to air :( ... And I was never really familiar with any of the players, apart from Andrew Gaze (and a few others) , I saw him at Melb Airport once :P.

I feel like an idiot, when I was reading the link I was like Cantbuya Basket ? :S is that an Aboriginal word? I will read it when I have some time lol :P

I'll be off shiftwork in October which means I won't be working nights, so I plan on going to games whenever possible. I briefly flirted with the idea of getting season tickets, but decided against it.

GO TIGES!
Pity about Anstey though.

Big_Dogg
09-10-2009, 02:51 AM
That's going to really hurt the Tigers chances, and with the loss of Barlow, Ebi Ere and Stephen Hoare, who is going to step up for you guys, you know Wortho will give you numbers but will he have anough of a supporting cast to get the W's, if they can't, even when Anstey comes back are they going to be too far behind to catch up?

That's my concern with the Tigers anyway.

Diddy,

he already said he was..

Let me just say i'm freaking pissed that the Wildcats signed Schenscher.

Further to the Melbourne Tigers chat. I would go as far as saying that they aren't as deep as they were last year, they lost some key players and now with Anstey gone for at least half a season they need to start looking at an import. I know they talked about being an 'all aussie' team but its getting to that stage now.
Ben Knight would be a nice addition to them coming off the bench, kinda like how Stephen Hoare did last season.

Hey, glad to see there are other NBL fans here.
I don't agree that The Breakers will win it all this year, I think the Wildcats are a very good chance. Although its disappointing that Paul Rogers got injured I feel as though the 10 free player points will give them an import who can dominate the paint with Red and Redhage.

El Kabong
10-13-2009, 05:07 PM
They had Rogers on 10 points? Didn't think he'd be that high, he's not on the national team anymore is he?

B-Easy8
10-13-2009, 10:48 PM
They had him on 8 but they had 2 remaining so hopefully we can get a dominant import.

Big_Dogg
10-13-2009, 11:58 PM
Oh believe me, I too think the Cats will win it, but in realistic terms the Breakers on paper deserved their number 1 team status at the beginning of the year.

It will be a sad day if Rogers has to retire, but we do need an athletic 4/5 combo type guy who can rebound and block shots, I actually wish we still had Isiah Victor but I'm sure if Rogers goes we will get someone who fills the needs.

Glad you guys read the blog, hope you enjoy it and subscribe.

B-Easy8
10-14-2009, 08:42 AM
Yeah it will be sad to see Rogers go but I would rather have an athletic four man than can dominate the boards, get blocks and get easy baskets under the ring, similar to Rolan Roberts.

The Cats dominating the 36ers was topped off perfectly when williamson faked out ng for a 3 and ng crashed into the boxes hard meanwhile williamson drained the 3 and everyone laughed at ng. Very good night.

Who was the NBL's Most Exciting Import EVER?

Since I grew up in the 1990s in Australia, the first player that comes to my mind has got to be Leon "NEON" Trimmingham.

For those of you Aussie basketball fans out there who saw him play would agree with me that this guy could jump out of the building and throw down some of the most menacing dunks EVER.

Individually, he tore up the league and in his first season, he racked up AMAZING numbers: 28 ppg 55 fg%, 11 rppg, 3 bpg!

Being a former Sydney Kings fan, the other import would be Kendrick Johnson and his "West Coast Streetball Style". Though I wasn't a fan of his "Streetball" flair, which did not fit into Brett Brown's fundamental, defensive team oriented basketball style, Johnson still amazed the crowd. I still remember the little fella (only standing at 6'1" 180 lbs) taking a rebound then going coast to coast against the Victoria Titans and then SOARING for a left handed (he was right handed) dunk over Brett Wheeler (6'11" 255 lbs) and The Bear - Tony Ronaldson (6'8" 265 lbs). PURELY AMAZING!

However, in this discussion, we can't leave out James "SHOWTIME" Smith. The guy was so exciting that at the end of his first season, the NBL magazine show decided to give him a full highlight show of all his dunks, blocks, alley oops and other mind blowing moves to the basket. This was another guy who could jump out of the building.

Being a Kings fan I thought you would have called the D-Train the best import ever, he has to be one of my all time favourites and as a Wildcats fan, that's a really tough thing to say, but Neon Leon was bad ass and dude had mad hops.

Saskibaloia
01-18-2010, 01:44 AM
I would agree that the "D-Train" was one of the best imports in the history of the NBL but I wouldn't put him as the most "exciting" import ever. He was exciting no doubt about that but whether or not he was on the same level of excitment as James "ShowTime" Smith or Leon "Neon" Trimmingham is debateable.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that, LT was pure showtime excitement.

My cousin is very good friends with James, she still speaks to him every now and then.

The very first basketball game I went to was the very first game Leon Trimmingham played for the 36ers. I was so stoked to go see him play.

Leonard Copeland is another guy you could throw into the mix too.
