Ray Allen is not too fond of Bruce Bowen.
Ray Allen is 33 years old and in the last year of his contract. He just wants to win.

If Bowen goes anywhere its b/c of his rep and thats it. He was completely worthless last year. He may as well be Devean George now.

he's surely lost a step, i mean he's 38.

i don't know that i'd say he's completely worthless though. the spurs coaching staff opted to go with offense over defense last year so bowen saw very little playing time (as he's limited offensively) and finley saw big time minutes.

what i did see though, when bowen did see time on the court, is that he's still a talent.

one of the high points i remember from last season was bowen getting out there and locking up j j barrea. i don't think barrea's that great a player, but he is quick as ****. and for bowen to be able to get out there, just a mere few months ago, and chase that guy around says something about what he can still do.

Bowen is going to retire IMO. I've read that he doesn't want to play basketball just to play basketball. Meaning he's been in San Antonio for like 6-7 years, I don't see him putting on another jersey for the vet min, when he's already gotten his championships, gotten his millions.

Didnt he have a falling out with Popovich over coming off the bench?

I think Bowen gives it 1 last shot for a Championship Contender, specifically Boston, Cleveland or OKC. Play 1 last season, before transitioning into an assistant coach the following season.

He is going to retire and live in San Antonio. He has said many times that S.A is his home. He wants to live there. He may come play in S.A for one more year, but I doubt. It doesn't matter though, he is going to retire a happy man.

He has his Championships, his Defensive Reputation and sucess, his career is finished and he had a good one.

At this point, even with BB being 50 he still has value to a team. A guy who knows where to be on the floor on D and does not make mistakes can get a job if he will play cheep. It is not just rep. His rep IS that he has lost a step. Teams know this. I bet he is not done.

It's time for Bowen to retire as his rep can't make up for his lack of skillz at age 38.

The spurs are definitely going to pick him up. Mark my words. Bowen loves SA too much and he means too much to the organization for him not to go back. Everyone in SA wants him back from the owner to the fans. Bowen made a name for himself and won multiple rings in SA and he can see that they have obviously gotten better. He will go back to SA.

I wouldn't mind him on the Clippers. We need a SF who can play defense and who can play without the ball and Bowen is exactly that. I'd even start him over Al Thornton so that Al can bring offense off the bench and have Bowen as a glue guy in the starting lineup.

Kaman/ Jordan
Griffin/ Camby
Bowen/ Thornton
Gordon/ R. Davis
B. Davis/ Telfair

This team could work.

But yeah, he's headin' back to San Antonio. Hopefully for him, he'll have a better season, because he was trash last season.

did you just compare bowen to devean george??? I hope he comes back to the spurs and we have a healthy ginoibili for you worthless no title fruit bags

bowen will have his jersey retired with ginobili duncan and parker.

devean george? are you ****ing kidding me?? god damn

Bowen is definitely going to have his jersey retired in the AT&T Center.

two-time runner up for DPOY (05,06 I believe lost to Wallace both times)
5x all-defensive first team
3x all-defensive second team
3x champion
500 consecutive games played between 2002 and 2008 (300+ starts)

assuming their contracts were the same, I'd take him over d. george 10/10 times. Averages more minutes, plays more games, and is the better defender... even at 38.

I also agree that it's retirement or going back to the spurs for Bowen. He's grounded in San Antonio, with family, business, and his foundation. I've heard other teams are interested (Orlando) but I don't think he takes it.

That's what I was thinking. I think that by trading these three guys (Fab, Thomas, Bruce) we are sending a message across that the last two seasons, we haven't been able to get the job done and we are turning another page in our franchises history. The team at this point is trying to get younger and more athletic which we have done with for the most part with our signings so far this summer, but also adding some veterans to replace the ones we lost. Even if he did come back to the Spurs, he would have to challenge RJ and Finley for playing time at the 3 spot. At this point, I'm thinking 70% chance he heads to retirement/ another team for the vets minimum.

Malik Hairston too. he's definitely a part of the youth movement. was signed the first day of free agency, played 15 games with the spurs last season. could be a cheaper, more athletic, Bowen replacement. he can slash, has potential to be a good defender, and has range like Bowen. had a good showing in the summer league, with 13.4 ppg/.53 FG% in 5 games. For the spurs D-League team he was putting up 23/6/4 on good percentages (41 mpg, 30 gms)... On the Spurs he'll be just another role player, but possibly one that pushes Bowen out of the rotation.
