this week's episode was possibly my favourite of the season so far; some great cameos from jeff tambor, mark wahlberg and tom brady and generally some good dialogue.
i figure we need a thread in which we can discuss the season as we progresses, so here it is.
some initial talking points:
- sloane.
- why is e with that ghoul-looking broad instead of sloane? it's clear they are both still hung up on each other. each time the ghoul - in all honestly, she's not that bad, she's just taking away from sloane screen time - smiles, i cringe.
- turtle to university? i can see some amusing drama/college girl scenes in there for sure, but how are they going to sustain this plot?
- they need to dead the ari/andrew klein subplot. please.
- this week's ep was a fun, tangential, industry-type ep. love that ish!
thoughts everyone?

Best episode of the season so far by far. Still not much plot developing in this season, but it's getting there hopefully

yeah. to me, this is by far the weakest season so far. :ohwell: i've only REALLY thoroughly enjoyed two episodes: this week's, and the one in which ari gives turtle mad career advice (episode three maybe?) hopefully it picks up
The episode was so short. I was like that's it? Ya that girl E is with definitely seems like a stage 5 clinger. I just find his character to be so pathetic.

I liked the golf episode too.
Yeah Sloan is way hotter than the skinny girl but she seems like real high maintenance. I'm sure we'll see Sloan meet the skinny girl and put E in a bad spot soon. Seems like its all setting up to that.
Turtle with Meadow is out of control with her buying him ****. That car was ridiculous. Seeing them together always reminds me of how fake the show is :ohwell:

arrrgh I f*cking hate Ashley (or whatever Eric's new girl's name is). I can't stand looking at her. Little freak show. Eat something munchkin. I have a problem with Eric in general in the show. I can't relate and I find myself disliking him most of the time. The show is too much about his p*ssy ass relationship struggles. I can't stand sloan either, although i think she's a decent representation of what some girls are like out here. God I hate girls who want to talk about "the business" all the time.
The show/writing is so bad, it's such a guilty pleasure.
Not enough Vinnie Chase this season.
Totally agree with playtet about the Klein story- I understand it's hard for these guys to write compelling B story but I just don't like it or him. Most of Ari's story has become really formulaic. Ari's wife sucks. She's never understanding and it seems like there's some very simple conversations that could solve her problems.
I'm in a movie with Jeffrey Tambor called "Meeting Spencer" it's real indy/low-budg and just finished filming, but I'm guessing it's out late 09. He's funny in the show.
Marky Mark was great, Brady was a stiff.
I like Turtle's story right now, it's just all over the place though, the episodes are really short (21 minutes?) and they just race through sh*t and set up mini cliff hangers.
anyways, re-reading my post and it sounds like i'm trashing the show, which I guess I am a little, but it's one of the only shows i schedule into my viewing life, being a movie guy myself I love the escapist hollywood fantasy.
edit- my friend that worked on the show says Jerry Ferrara is by far the coolest of the guys, for what it's worth

most definitely. while e is acting like a biatch over the whole sloan thing, i can kinda see his point of view. a chick tells you she can't be friends with you because she cares too much - such a copout - sporadically pops up in your life, secures you a job AND new place? something isn't right there.
however, she is easily the most smoking chick on the show IMO (i love meadow too, though). so much better than the ghoul he's currently going out with.

I just heard on the radio today that he almost got into a fist fight with Chris Kattan from SNL recently...apparently he was slamming doors and yelling...
then they said that apparently Piven is a total head case in real life, kinda like a more mental version of Ari Gold...

I personally like the Sopranos a bit more than the Wire, but the Wire never got the props, respect, accolades it deserved... I'm not one to play the race card, but I'm 100% convinced the fact that the cast was primarily Black was the reason it never got the hype and awards the Sopranos did.

Completely agree. Anyways, E quickly became my least favourite character. He gets angry at Sloan at that formal party they were at, then goes home and bangs that ugly girl. Then he starts mixing and meshing between the two and he clearly can't let Sloan go. His neighbor is fine, I would obviousy bang her but lets get real, you need Sloan. Stop being annoying and choose one. His stories are the worst IMO.

from wiki:
Despite the critical acclaim, The Wire has received poor Nielsen Ratings, which Simon attributes to the complexity of the plot, a poor time slot, heavy use of esoteric slang, particularly among the gangster characters and a predominantly black cast.[2] Critics felt the show was testing the attention span of its audience and felt that it was mistimed in the wake of the launch of the successful crime drama The Shield on FX.[259] However, anticipation for a release of the first season on DVD was high at Entertainment Weekly.[260]

sloan is a dime. smoking. gorgeous. sexy. innocent. she is wifey material. this other chick has mangled teeth, is too skinny and is clingy. (she still gets a 7 from me, though.)
i've said this before - lamar also said the same thing in this thread - but they need to avoid relationship dramas and stick to what makes the show unique and entertaining: the industry stuff, the sex, the drugs, the girls. i love the tangential eps like this week's, too.

it's a VERY smart show that unfolds over the course of a season rather than an episode. they didn't dumb it down for the masses, which is why they didn't get the best ratings. don't let that turn you off though, prime. it IS f*cking amazing, and i don't say that about a lot of tv shows.

Who else watches Weeds? And Deadwood doesn't get it's due, it along with The Wire and Sopranos are the best things HBO ever did. Sure, Season 3 disappointed, but they had to cut it to 10 episodes after filming had already started and it gave us the best character in television history.

Season 4 was genuinely tedious for me, at least the character interactions this year lend to them understanding Nancy is a horrible person and she deserves to die a lonely death, though you can't kill the protagonist so they've written themselves into a corner. I just watched the newest episode, I was disappointed and you'll see why when you catch it.

Yeah, they've antagonized Nancy's character to an extreme this season. I wish there was more plotline for Shane and Silus, but the show seems content to revolve around Nancy and Andy for now. I'll keep watching it for hopes that it will improve, but don't have that much confidence that it will

I don't know if you saw last week but Shane *omgspoiler!* got shot at the end and they developed that rather weirdly this episode. I'm probably wrong, but a scene between him and Silas from this week made, along with the rest of his behavior from this episode, me think he's having some dark thoughts.
It's just, I dunno, it's like they don't develop any sort of cause and effect when developing the general plotlines of one season to the next, sometimes even episode to episode, and the longer it goes on the more amateurish it seems. I mean I'll keep watching, have been for 5 seasons now, but it's just disappointing.

Jeremy Piven (Ari) also seems pretty cool from what I've seen of him.
From what I've read and been about encounters with him, he's actually an enormous douche. Once time in Aspen or Vail, can't remember which, he ran up a $500 bill and left an Entourage DVD as the tip. F*ck that guy, what an a-hole. Adrien Grenier I've heard is a mega douche as well.
This show is pretty awful now too, it's so formulaic and predictable, yet I tune in every Sunday night to see what the boys are up to. I guess I'm formulaic and predictable myself.

Jesus this show is atrocious, it's a bunch of 30 somethings who act like their in high school. How many E-relationship sub-plots can one sitcom write? Every season is the same sh*t with Eric finding some new girl, falling in love, getting made fun of by his friends, and then breaking up with said girl. Sloan still? Really? That was like 3 seasons ago, let's move on and COME UP WITH A NEW STORY LINE. Eric's new job has loads of potential but they'd rather have us watch him and Sloan play teenage love games.
Have Vince and Ari even spoken to each other this season??!!?
Remember when this show was about making movies, smoking weed, f*cking hot girls, and spending insane amounts of money on cars and mansions, all while hanging out with your friends? I barely do. Apparently these hack writers have though.

What a pointless 1/2 hr every Sunday this show has become. Absolutely no storyline, just the same recycled filler bullsh*t week-in, week-out. It seems every character has become a caricature of themselves and the ones that are given some room to grow (Turtle and Lloyd) are the most uninteresting of the entire show.

Randy: That was like 3 seasons ago, let's move on and COME UP WITH A NEW STORY LINE.
Remember when this show was about making movies, smoking weed, f*cking hot girls, and spending insane amounts of money on cars and mansions, all while hanging out with your friends? I barely do. Apparently these hack writers have though.

Just because you had 4 great seasons doesn't mean I'm going to continue watching, I'm only watching now praying that I'll get a golden Ari moment/line. Nothing yet, I'll just wait a bit until I completely forget Entourage and rewatch the first couple seasons again.

What the **** were the writers thinking. So Vince apparently did great in Scorsese's great gatsby-so why don't they show any of the perks he'd get from this? He's not talking to any big directors, he's not being talked about as a more serious actor, heck all he's done all season is bang a new hot chick every episode and walk around smiling all the time-no development in Vince's career at all. That stalker plotline dragged on for like 5 episodes and it turned out it was all a sorority prank-and a real wierd one at that, the initiation is to steal Jamie Lynn Siegler's boyfriend's underwear? WTF!? Total copout by the writers. Nothing happened THIS ENTIRE SEASON except we find out after 9 episodes that-*GASP* E is still pussywhipped for Sloan.
What was the point of Andrew Klein? I thought he would give Ari a buddy to kick it with, or he would do so well that he would begin to rival Ari as the top agent-but all he did was cheat on his wife? WHO CARES. It is also way out of character for Ari to care so much that Andrew was cheating on his wife. The Ari from the past 5 seasons wouldn't give a rats ass.
NOTHING HAPPENED THIS WHOLE DAMN SEASON. I love the first 4 seasons even season 5 was ok, but this show just needs to die, either that or become a spinoff renamed "E's Relationships and Vince Smiling All the Time" as long as it doesn't continue to soil the good name that is the legacy of Entourage.
Johnny Drama is the only part of this show that is still good.

So here's what's happened this season:
- Turtle had a g/f. She left.
- Eric has girl troubles and dated an alien. He wants Sloan back now. SURPRISE!!!1 DERP!!1!
- Girls stole Turtle's underwear and it took 4 episodes to figure out after a large build up.
- Eric has a new job. This has potential and is sooo under used.
- Johnny is unemployed. Sweet.
- Ari is buying Lloyd's company, the ONLY decent story line all season.
Wow, this season sucks ass. I will not be getting HBO next summer for this uninspired, piece of sh*t show.

- Johnny is unemployed. Sweet. i actually prefer drama when his character hits rock bottom. interested to see where this goes.
- Ari is buying Lloyd's company, the ONLY decent story line all season. on the one hand this is cool, on the other it disappoints me. it means that there is going to be little to no ari/gang interaction

Play by play.
- I think Jamie is ****in somebody else over in New Zealand
- Ari is the GOAT after runnin up in there and firing everybody with a paintball gun. He performed a jihad on the whole building
- Cool of Ari apologizing to Lloyd after Terrance apologized to him. Pay it forward my *****.
- I would white knight Sloan, then wife her
- Matt Damon killed the whole ep. Dude had me dying. "I have an academy and I'M calling YOU back". Told Vince he thought he was a terrible actor. Etc. Etc.
- Lebrons acting is as good as his jumpshot
- To top it off, they ended the ep with one of the greatest jay-z songs ever
Episode was epic. Almost made up for the **** season.

I think the next season will be the last. I see everyone moving on doing their own thing. E and Sloan will probably start a family or whatever. Ari will be busy running both companies.

This season was pretty uneventful and dull as most have agreed. By far the worst season. I did enjoy the finale though. This episode had me consistently amused. Some of the other episodes this season seemed so pointless.
The exchange between Ari and Terrance I felt was one of the more genuine scenes in the show's history. Especially considering their two personalities. By the way, what kinda paintball gun did Ari have? That scene :oldlol:

So, 'E' is purposely acting like a total d0uchebag on this show? Every person that I have ever talked to about this show absolutely despises E. So, the question becomes, is he trying to make his character unlikeable? If so, the guy is an amazing actor. If not, then not so much...
Btw, when he and Sloane were driving through the hills of Malibu (it looked like) last night before he pulled over, I thought for a minute that they were going to get into an accident. I even noticed that neither was wearing a seatbelt, ensuring that both would be ejected through the sunroof to their bloody deaths. I got really excited....
That would have been an excellent choice by the writers, imo.... Maybe the only way to save the show from its mediocrity.

Yeah, the show is pretty lame but I watch because there's always that diamond in the rough episode that's entertaining. And I meant E was the best actor out of 'the guys', which isn't really saying much but I think that's why his storyline gets the most screen time because unlike Vince, he can do more besides star blankly off into space and smile awkwardly.
Don't know where the show will go from here, but I would think it's all winding down- Vince's career is stable and he's back to mega star status making $20 mil/flick, Drama will have his own series, E has his own thing going on professionally and he's starting a family now, Turtle's in school w/ business ambitions and he's got Jaime Lynn, Llyod is finally a real asian (agent:oldlol: ), and Ari is more or less the most powerful man in Hollywood... seems like everyone's story arc is done. As much as I hate it, I still watch. I don't make a point of it like I did in the first few seasons when it was still fresh and a decent show. But, I will still watch it if I see it is on. I'm not sure why... It is a strange compulsion. I spend most of the episodes shaking my head at how regurgitated everything is, how bad the storylines are and how pathetic it is that they have to have 10 cameos every week...
But, I still watch.
Also, the show is making me hate LA more than I already did. As bad as the writing has become, I still feel like the Hollywood scene that they show is pretty accurate and it makes me want to puke.
There was a time during the first couple of seasons that I thought it would be great to have a friend make it big in LA (my buddy was actually the executive producer on the Terminator movie, so it isn't that far fetched), but now, I don't even think I would want it.... Yeah, I think RBA was referring to the 'industry types' and the 'upper crust' superficial society, not the average everyday Los Angeleans (don't know if that's a word :oldlol: )
they call us "Angelenos" on the radio atleast, never heard someone actually say that

I had no idea so many people hated E.
Dunno why some think its stupid he was finally smart enough to have to balls to lock Sloan up. Idiot should have done that several seasons ago.

This season sucked, but the last 2 episodes were good.
Wonder how long till the next season?

Even with the last two episodes picking up, I am still not fooled. Next season will be terrible, for sure. They relied way too heavily for celebrity cameos this season. 50 Cent, LeBron, Tom Brady, etc. The last episode was more Ari centric which was good but that was a terrible scene at the therapist...The first two were just comedic masterpieces and this one just felt forced. Like they were reading people online saying "Hey get Ari to say something funny again!!!" and they thought ok lets just do what worked before...except they don't have that hunger or emotion to make it work anymore.
Maybe I'm over analyzing it but it didn't feel right watching it knowing I was supposed to laugh.
