The Greek national team played their first two exhibition games of the summer. Schortsanitis scored 15 points in the first game and 23 points in the second game.

He is now said to be by Greek national team trainers to be at 6-10 and 300 pounds in weight. He has lost another 50 pounds since earlier this summer when he was trying to play with the Clippers summer league team.

He is now 53 pounds LIGHTER than when he helped Greece beat Team USA and only 13 pounds heavier than when the Clippers drafted him. His body fat is said to be at 8%.

Wasnt Greek Big Baby supposed to be joining the Clippers where he would provide an impact off the bench this season?

Good maybe he'll actually get some playing time for Olympiacos.

It'll be hard to come by with Bourousis, Kleiza, and Vujcic in the front court.

He's better than Glyniadakis so that should get him 10 mins a game.

He's been on a special diet and training program from a Swiss clinic. And yes they are tested, and unlike NBA athletes that includes all substances that the EU and FIBA bans, not just what the NBA selects.

Being better than Sofo the last 3 years isn't saying much considering he couldn't give you more than 5 productive minutes at a time. Glyniadakis is extremely mediocre.

You know that Sofo playing to his ability at 300-320 lbs. is clearly a better player than Glyniadakis was or will ever be.

I was very impressed by the play of Kostas Papanikolaou today, this kid's gonna be a player.

Glyniadakis is the most underrated player in Europe. He's very, very good these days. This last season he was fantastic.

Supposedly Papanikoloau cannot be on the team though. FIBA rules prevent it. Anyway so far Greece has mainly just played their third string unit. We will see what Sofo does against real competition.

How about his 4 points and 4 fouls in 14 minutes against Croatia or his 4 fouls in 14 minutes against Macedonia.? He's also a poor rebounder for a guy his size, his stamina is still lacking and he's a foul magnet for both drawing and committing. He's got a long way to go before being able to make any kind of impact in the NBA.

Clearly you have not watched him play once this summer. He's way better than any center the Clippers have. Still he would only play 15-16 minutes because of stamina.

Spot on. You also forgot Chris Kaman and if we retain Novak, I'm certain he'd get more playing time due to his sharp shooting (Sofo and Smith provide something around the same thing, don't they?)

How is he better then Kaman or Camby? And if he were to come over, he'd play PF, not CE. He's what, 6'8/6'9 and overweight.

I'd pretty much written Sofo off after he got up to 400lbs but after watching him during EuroBasket i've hope again.

The guy is a force down there. No one can handle him single coverage in the post. He is quick, strong and has excellent footwork.

I think he could be a "change of pace" big brought in 10-15m a game to get post buckets when there's a scoring drought.

And that is how you know when not to take someone seriously in any sort of basketball conversation. Kaman was the 6th overall pick in one of the best drafts of all time, had a season of 15/13 and averages 10/8 for his career.

Camby was the 2nd pick in another loaded draft, career numbers of 11/10 with 2.6 blocks and 5 seasons of 3+ blocks per, 6 seasons of 11+ rebounds (including 13.1) to go with a DPOY, 2 Defensive First Teams, 2 Defensive Second Teams and numerous college awards.

Yet, Sofo is 10 times what Camby or Kaman can dream of being?

Greek League all-star game: March 14, 2010

Olympiacos Piraeus big man Sofoklis Schortsanitis was the clear star and MVP of the 18th Greek League all-star game after recording 42 points on near-perfect shooting to lead Team Greece to an impressive 147-114 victory over the Rest of the World in Heraklion, Crete. Both the winners and Schortsanitis set records for the most points scored in the history of the event. Schortsanitis bagged 42 points on 16-for-16 two-point shooting, 3-of-5 three-point shooting and 1 of 2 free throws to earn the MVP trophy.

I'm not sure. It gets reported lately as anywhere from 315-345. However, it is said that his body fat percentage is only 8% and that he can play full steam for 25 minutes. So even if it is 345 he is in pretty good shape basketball wise.

Not great shape, obviously it could be better, but people greatly exaggerate and basically totally make up that he is in terrible shape and can only play 10 minutes a game, or that he is all fat. His weight is said to be fluctuating now mainly from muscle mass gains.

When he went down to 300 he dropped the fat, but he also dropped some muscle. So he has been gaining some of that muscle back and thus his weight went back up a bit. He has been keeping the fat off for a good 9 months or so now.

I'm guessing it's along the lines of "You stupid Americans believe media and Rubio is number 1. You are stupid and tell lies. Idiot. NBA is easy and lies to all of you"

do it for those that aren't.

here is the box score:

As you can see Sofo scored 42 points in 21 minutes. Josh Childress by comparison managed a whole 8 points in 20 minutes. Yet this forum is full of idiots that swear that Sofo can't even play in the NBA and that "at best he would be a third string player".

There is no point in wasting time discussing things with such idiots like that.

What does Josh Childress have to with this?

Schortsanitis bagged 42 points on 16-for-16 two-point shooting, 3-of-5 three-point shooting and 1 of 2 free throws to earn the MVP trophy.

This intrigues me.

but not everyone is saying that.

you were saying that he'd be 10 times better than camby or kaman, so the same could be said about you.

also, that is one box score, from an all star game.

is it an exhibition, like the u.s. version?

you haven't done much to back up your statements.

He never does. Like a parrot says "Why waste time backing up my statement to idiots with no bball knowledge? No thanks.". Yet the clown will waste his time on this board posting. Makes sense. Much like listening to Ron Harper in an interview.

Shaq was a wunder kind. Lets see this guy hold up for 82 games of a NBA schedule before we call him Shaq after about 20 games we might be calling him Oliver Miller

You are one of the least knowledgeable of all fans here about the game in Europe. According to you every Euroleague player is a horrible awful scrub, and that same player becomes "good" the instant he signs an NBA contract.

Please spare me your basketball "knowledge". Oliver Miller............:lol :oldlol:

I never said they get good when they sign an NBA contract I say the hype gets earned when they produce in the best league in the world. As far as my knowledge about Euro basketball I need to know about as much of Euro basketball as I do a church league in Iowa.

I've never stated anything about the Euro league just that the players that come to the NBA play a soft brand of basketball. Which to appeal to a wider viewership the NBA has accomadated

Here you go with your hype again Lakas!

You know this guy is nothing but a creation of the Greek media! He will be a bust if he ever get's his fat ass across the Atlantic! Seriously, the Sofo hype machine is just sad and desperate at this point, he gets nothing but hype from EVERYBODY in Greece! He has no talent and has not proven anything, only gets love from Greek delusional fans who rides this guys nuts hard! In Greece you think he's a basketball talent only because he's black! He's not even the best player in Greece for his position.

The attention he gets from Greece is amazing. "Best center in Europe", "Most talented big man to ever come out of Greece". He's not even the best center on his team in Greece and can't get more than 2 rebounds per game in Euroleague play and yet you think this creation of Greek media can play anywhere else. He's lucky to even practice with Olympiakos. Pfff the Greek propaganda machine never ends with this Schortsanevergonnamakeit!

People always want to call big fat guys Shaq something.... but they are not similar at all. Shaq was a 7'2 (in shoes) 330 pound monster with a 9'5 reach (7'6 wingspan) and could jump like a guard (36" vertical jump)... We will probably never see someone like that again in our lifetimes.

These other guys are just big... and the similarities generally end there.

Hello Everybody ,

im Greek and i've been followin Sofo from the first time he stepped foot on a A1 basketball court back when he was playin for Iraklis Salonika.
i really LOVE watchin him Play
I know pretty much everything there is to know about the guy's game..

Lakas Fan Yo seems to be a die hard fan of sofo too but he is kinda exaggeratin about his abilities and potential.
On the other hand , Zen Master and a few other posters around here talk without havent even seen the guy play and its really unfair for him and for themselves who might look like fools if he actually makes it in the L..

The comment about Sofo being 10 times the player Camby and Kaman is or ever goin to be is just a joke . really
Sorry man but u re way over ur head ...

A few aspects on Big Sofo's Game:

-He's got amazing quickness for a guy his size. I mean jaw-dropping
-Great Footwork
-Very Soft touch around the basket. Can definitely score with a variety of moves . Power OR Finesse moves.
-CANNOT finish with his left hand (never uses it actually)
-CANNOT score off the Dribble
-Mediocre Free throw shooter (over the last 2 season improved from 40 to 60%)
-Unknown ability from Mid-Long-Range (never was allowed to shoot)
-Can defend the pick&roll really effectively- great at the hedge-out motion
-Really good at defensive rotations . Deffo can hold his own
- He was a Bad Rebounder but improved alot over the Last couple of seasons.
I think he can b average in the NBA due to the difference in style of play and court measurements.
-Average Passer for a big man. Especially, when being double or even triple teamed. Work in progress
-His average wingspan (i think its around 6-9) doesnt help him much when it comes to blockin shots. He is an above average blocker after contact (impact really) with opponents though
-He is NOT a Foul Prone anymore. He is greatly improved in this area-controllin his huge body. Most of the Fouls he recieved in Europe were mostly from flopping opponents. Im sure that wont b the case in the NBA
-As much as stamina goes i think he can play for about 20-25' a game

To sum it up, Sofoklis is a Special Player that is capable of the best and the worst. That really depends on how the new Clippers head coach will use him.
I really believe he CAN be a good player in the NBA BUT i cant bet any money on that.

Best Case Scenario : he can become a 15-7 type of CENTER
Worst Case Scenario: meaner Oliver Miller

I hope i enlightened u
and hey,
STOP HATING

Wow, thats a lot of weight lost. Would like to see him be an impact player for the Clips so them let go of Camby or Kaman for some more young talent. We'll see if this is legit.
