Mutombo - One of the greatest defenders ever, 2nd in blocked shots, didn't have to score to change games, gave millions of dollars to his home country, he's funny and caring, plus he played for 20 seasons and was almost 43 years old when he retired for God's sakes.

I can't say enough good things. He's just the man.

All time- Allen Iverson

I'm still a highschool kid, and watching him is what got me hooked into basketball.

Now- Dwayne Wade

Carries his whole team on his back, very entertaining to watch, can put up breathtaking numbers fast.

Honorable mentions to Lebron and Kobe.

Fine.

Steve Nash is one of the greatest playmakers and passers ever. He ran one of the most exciting Run N Gun systems ever. He is one of my basketball heroes and I learned lots from him, except defense :lol.

He is still the best playmaker in the NBA, and he is walking talking proof that stats dont tell the whole story.

All-time: Isiah Thomas. I was born in Detroit in '83, so I grew up watching him. Fearless competitor, could dominate in scoring when he wanted to, one of the best handlers ever, excellent court vision. He is the best little man I have ever watched.

Current: I guess I'd have to say DWade. Dude will just give up his body on every play. Will try to dunk on ANYONE. Can distribute the ball, best player I have ever seen to split a trap off a pick and roll. AND HE DOMINATES GAMES.

His shot is so smooth, his off-ball movement is 1st-rate and he is mad clutch down the stretch. His form, while not textbook is nonetheless perfect for him because of the sheer fluidity and aesthetics of his shot, as well as a quick release.

All-time - Michael Jordan

One thing that separates him from all the great players in the NBA were his intangibles and his tangibles as well. He was a shooting guard with the efficiency, you would see a big man averaging. Could dominate games with or without the ball, could move without the ball and figure ways to score, and he didn't need to always create his shot to score like most players are today.

Currently - In a toss up at the moment. :violin:

I like his dunks/crossover more than his shot at first, him and Vince Carter was in NBA top 10 every weak back in the day, then i find out he is also a hell of a shooter.

Here's my really big caption.

Basketball Mythbusters, English voice narrating:

When the Los Angeles Lakers' loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2008 Finals, Shaquille O'Neal infamously attacked Kobe with his singularly pivotal phrase, "Kobe tell me how my ass tastes". This gem of a line has been copied by numerous basketball fans, both casual and hardcore, so that they can promptly whip it out at a most opportune time, such as Spudgay musing "Ray Allen, tell me how my ass tastes. However the origin of this statement has actually been discovered to come from Allen Iverson in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals. After destroying Tyrone Lue in his game-sealing clutch baseline pullup jumper off a hard crossover, he quickly quipped towards the befuddled role player:
http://reclinergm.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/iverson.jpg
"Tyrone tell me how my ass tastes"

Which was very appropriate for the situation.

For me, it would have to be Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The easy answer is LeBron James, but big Z has handled himself with grace and professionalism his whole career. Man went through ALOT. He has feet problems that probably would've ended the careers of many others, but he just kept battling back and the end result was an extended run of durability. Off the court, he had to deal with the trauma of his wife having a stillborn pregnancy, and has also battled insomnia.

Plus, I really like his game. He is smart, knows his limitations, and is a good leader for this organization.

As for currently, either Deron Williams or Brandon Roy. Both have very beautiful games.

I actually have 3 favourite players. And of course I have an all time fav just like everyone else.

LeBron - the closest thing we will ever see to a perfectly engineered person (without actually engineering that person). His combination of height, weight, strength, stamina and speed is just amazing to say the least. He is a great character guy despite the "duck gate" and handshake incidents and is truly a class act. Great leader one of the best in the game, best player statistically and has the potential to go down as the greatest player to ever lace up.

Wade - Is a phenominal player to watch and I really respect his game. He is the most explosive player at his size and is the second best player in the league IMO. His jump shot is money, and he can change directions on a dime.

Derrick Rose - I see him as a Dwade light. He has that type of potential IMO and his handle and passing ability will only get better.

Honourable mentions go out to Gilbert Arenas, Mo Williams, and Delonte West.

My all time player is a tie between James, Jordan and Magic

Honourable mentions to Wilt.

All-Time: Hakeem the Dream - Can't believe no one's said him yet..

http://www.reportajes-jmserrano.com/hakeem_olajuwon/1.jpg

One of the best blockers ever, So dominant, after watching his games.. I would always try to do the dream shake.. only to fail and look supremely stupid of course.. But anyways.. Some more reasons include.. He massively blocked Jordan, and Hakeem on Robinson - Need I say more?

Current: Kobe Bryant

http://www.celebrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/kobe-bryant-traded-5-31-07.jpg

Can't help it.. I am what I am and that's a Laker fan.. Love him even more because he is a Laker.. His game is so silky smooth along with that jumpshot of his.. His ability to score amazes me time and time around.. and now that he's not as cocky and egotastic as he was before, makes him even more of a favorite.

Second: Melo

I'm a sucker for smooth jumpshots :oldlol:

I enjoyed watching KB for the longest. His offensive game is so diverse, and there's always somthing to incorporate from his game to my own. On top of that, his determination to get back to the top, skill set, and demeanor made him a favorite of mine. I also got his autograph back in '99 when I was around seven. The amazing amount of hate he generates still 'till this day makes me vouch for him that much more.

All Time - Scottie Pippen

http://ibbab.free.fr/Joueurs/Pippen/images/pippen001_jpg.jpg

I started watching basketball after seeing pictures of Pip dunking on people :oldlol: I followed the Bulls and although Jordan was the man on those teams, Pip was my favorite player because of his moves and his 'signature' dunk (nothing special really, he just went up strong with the ball palmed in his right right but did it with style and grace). He was a great all around player and everybody was a Jordan fan back then so I had to be original and root for somebody else :lol

Current - Rasheed Wallace

http://portland.daveknows.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/rasheed1.jpg

I didnt recognize how good Sheed was untill Pip got traded to the Blazers and I started following that team (I've been a Blazer fan ever since). They were awesome and Sheed was a beast that attacked the rim constantly (unlike now). He was cool to watch and although some hated his personally and on court demeanor, I loved it. He showed energy and fierocity :applause: He has declined a lot over the years but I'm still a fan of his game, guess it's a sentimental thing :confusedshrug: anyone that has forgotten how sick he used to be, watch this vid. hey mike, i'm not trying to attack you, but I think it's really weird that a 19 year old kid's favorite player is Wilt. I like Wilt too but I've never seen him play outside of old footage and I'm always totally befuddled by people on this board who give superlaitve to and defend guys they never saw play.

anyways, my favorite player is Lamar Odom, I first heard about him doing damage at rhode island and I'm pretty sure the first time I saw him play was the A-10 tournament where he hit this ridiculous buzzer beating 3-point game winner against temple. 6'10" long lean new-era prototype forward with point guard skills who seems to really enjoy the game. Always smiling, gives funny interviews and some of the best sound in behind the scenes footage of anyone I've ever seen. Best outlet passer in the league and one of the better and more under rated 5 on 5 guys out there, does this board realize he CAME OFF THE BENCH and ended up with the 2nd highest +/- in the league behind Lebron? I love watching "the Goods" play.

edit- he went to the same showing of No Country For Old Men as we did a couple years ago, we were walking out of the theater and i just saw this huge guy in my peripheral, he did this cocky little fade away jumpshot with his napkin into the trash can in front of me, if i had to do over again i would have swatted his sh*t.

1. Brandon Roy, I first started off really hating him because he was pushing UCONN too the brink of elimination in the 2005 NCAA tournament but than when he got too the league I really liked his style of play and plus he wore my favorite number.

http://blog.mlive.com/kzgazette/2008/04/large_pistons.jpg
2. Rodney Stuckey, A Pistons fan he is my favorite player on the team because he's the only one I see sticking around for the next 5-10 years so I hope he only continues to be better.

3. Rajon Rondo, I liked already when he first got into the league but than this years playoffs after seeing him go toe to toe with Derrick Rose I was cheering for him all the way while he was putting uup CRAZY numbers and became a top 5 fav player for me while all the other Derrick Rose bandwagoners were cheering against me but we know who won that confrontation.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s98LW1lYkx4/Sb5moWjlDHI/AAAAAAAAABk/YOrcYHJ71T8/s400/6griz2.jpg
4. OJ Mayo, Loved the dude from the start seeing him play as a 10th grader I was a pretty much a die hard fan and couldn't wait for him too get to the NBA and now hes in it and still one of my fav players.

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0aLY58Z6CUcQ0/340x.jpg
5. Rudy Gay, Right when he got too UCONN I was cheering for this dude all the way and saw his great ahtletic abilitys which made him a favorite right away.

He is currently my favorite player. I liked him back in Boston but really got to see how good he really was after the trade. IMO he has the best footwork in the league (behind Duncan). I just love watching him go to work in the paint. He is the probably the only reason why I continue to follow the Wolves. After his injury I found them very, very hard to watch.

http://www.operationgadget.com/images/kevin_garnett.jpg
KG is my favorite player of all time. The wolves basically owe their franchise to this man. Best player the Wolves have ever had, and really their only true star. I used to idolize this guy, loved his heart, intensity, and overall will to win. I do feel like his career was wasted on the wolves, and we never really capatalized on how good he really was. It was great how he stuck in their with them throughout the bad years. But he really is the reason why I got into basketball.

My First fave player when i started watching was john stockton, when he retired it became Kevin Garnett. KG for me does it all. He's a versatile player and plays good defense. He carried bad teams to play offs year after year and finally got a chip when he was placed in a good team.

I always just loved watching Dan Majerle. He was a consistent threat from three, a proven defender, and flat out hustler. He was a favorite of phoenix fans and miami fans. I tried to model my game after him.

Considering how I've only started watching the NBA since the 09 Finals, I haven't watched many players. My favorite players are:

http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww54/dikybiky/Kobe_Bryant_280x390_499657a.jpg

Just the sheer skill and determination to win this guy shows makes me admire him.

And after that is

Despite whatever happens off the court, this guy is undoubtedly the best player in the NBA.

When I first started watching basketball this guy was just too good. So tall and yet so athletic and skilled. Was always completely awed by his play and his ability to make any shot at all. http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3185/tmacu.jpg

I mean, what's their not to like about him? Came to the league underrated, while Carmelo and LeBron were hyped up to death, and he showed the NBA why they shouldn't have counted it out. Led his team to a Championship in just his 3rd year, while winning the Finals MVP in a Michael Jordan fashion.

Works hard on the floor the whole time, drives to the hoop and constantly gets damaged, but gets back up stronger. Great mid-range shooter, great play maker, and arguably the GOAT shotblocker for a shooting guard. We haven't had with a similar playing style like him since the young MJ.

Bird
09-27-2010, 09:54 PM
Retired: Larry Bird - When I first got into basketball, Larry was at the tail end of his career and I hadn't established true favorites yet, but when they would show his highlights I would go nuts. Not to mention, my first basketball nickname was simply Bird (though, it helps I was the only white guy who would play ball at the two rec centers in town at the time).

Currently: Kevin Durant - Followed his career when he was in HS and was hinting at signing at UT, then watched his one year in college and continued when he was drafted. Criminally underrated, his defense will be leaps and bounds ahead of where it was last year and he will truly make the leap to superstardom this year (instead of just being a great teammate and an amazing scorer).

His shot is so smooth, his off-ball movement is 1st-rate and he is mad clutch down the stretch. His form, while not textbook is nonetheless perfect for him because of the sheer fluidity and aesthetics of his shot, as well as a quick release.

All time: Jordan and Magic Johnson.

Current: Dwyane Wade, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah.

Reason: Wade plays the way Jordan used to in some aspects of his game. I grew up with his cousin, and I like the way he gets overlooked because it makes him work harder.

Rose: small but plays bigger than his size. I like his humility and the fact he always tries to improve his game. He's just really fun to watch.

Noah: He gives you everything he has when he's on the court. I hated when the bulls picked him as I didn't like him at Florida. He won me over with his play against the celtics in the playoffs and the cavs.

Why? Because hes the best Jazz player ever. You never knew what you were getting with Malone in the big games, you always knew you'd get the best possible from stockton. His scoring is under rated, as he could really take over games with scoring if he needed to, though it was always his last option. I just liked everything about him, he always took the best option on offense, which I rarely see players do.

Michael Jordan-Singlehandly made me pay attention to the game of basketball and want to play.

Kevin Garnett-Always loved his intensity on the court and respected the fact that he gave 100% every night and came up short most of his career. Never got discouraged.

Ray Allen-One of the best players to watch live. His off ball movement and unstoppable 3's are sooo sick when he gets hot.

Tracy McGrady-Favorite player of the 00's. Made the game look easy and is a thrill to watch.

Allen Iverson-Barely 6'0 going against guys that are way bigger and he still put up stupid numbers.

LeBron James-Most athletic/versatile player I've ever seen play. Even more than MJ. Definitely the most exciting player to watch as the things he does shouldn't be done by someone of his size. It's pretty incredible.

Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Shaquille O'neal, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Hakeem Olajuwon are amongst my favorite.

My favorite player is Derrick Fisher. Used to be Eddie Jones and his reverse layup.

Clutch, tough, smart, and a high character guy. Only bad things I hear about his all get tuned out when he comes up big when it counts.

Never one to make excuses and goes out and busts his tail every night.
People bash him and he just continues to do what he does.
There is a reason he has 5 rings.

But once Fish retires in 3 yrs, Deron Williams or B.Roy are going to take it. Both are very outstanding players and their play should speak for itself as for why.
