There was a thread on this a while back but I couldn't find it, so I made another one b/c it starts this Saturday on Showtime!!!!!!!!! I'm so pumped for this!!!!!!!
Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor
Record: 28-3-1, 17 KO's
Age: 31
Height: 6'0"
Reach: 74.5"
Strengths: Very athletic, very fast hands, faced the most elite competition, good pop in his punches, great jab when used, great chin early in the fight.
Weaknesses: Cardio, bad balance, doesn't follow gameplan, keeps hands too low, fights with his heart instead of brain.
Andre "Son of God" Ward
Record: 20-0-0, 13 KO's
Age: 25
Height: 6'1"
Reach: 73"
Strengths: Undefeated, very fast hands and feet, highly skilled, rangy, works off the jab, good feints, mixes up punches.
Weaknesses: Hasn't faced a lot of elite competition, no power, untested chin, slow to develop in the pros, doesn't like to fight inside/clinch.
Mikkel "Viking Warrior" Kessler
Record: 42-1-0, 32 KO's
Age: 30
Height: 6'1"
Reach: 73"
Strengths: Good power, great chin, good hand speed, very tough, aggressive, physically imposing, doubles up the jab, well rounded, killer uppercut.
Weaknesses: Somewhat predictable, robotic at times, doesn't like fighting while backing up.
Andre "The Matrix" Dirrell
Record: 18-0-0, 13 KO's
Age: 27
Height: 6'2"
Reach: 75"
Strengths: Undefeated, good power, very athletic, very fast hands and feet, southpaw, good jab, good size,
Weaknesses: Hasn't faced a lot of elite competition, can be pressured, less effective in close distances, suspect chin.
Carl Froch
Record: 25-0-0, 20 KO's
Age: 32
Height: 6'1"
Reach: 74.5"
Strengths: Very tough, great chin, good pressure fighter, cuts off ring well, a bit unorthodox, good power through whole fight, very game.
Weaknesses: Keeps hands too low, lacks athleticism, show-boating can get him in trouble against elite competition.
Arthur "King" Abraham
Record: 30-0-0, 24 KO's
Age: 29
Height: 5'10"
Reach: 72"
Strengths: Undefeated, great chin, good speed, good power, very tough, good defense, good at tempting fighters to open up for counters.
Weaknesses: Not busy enough, lays on the ropes sometimes, on the shorter side, less reach.
Jermain Taylor vs. Arthur Abraham = Jermain Taylor UD 12

Can't wait for this tourney to start!

Kessler
Dirrell

All of these fighters are fairly young and are in/entering their primes!!! If Ward or Dirrell win, they are the future of boxing. If Kessler wins, he proves what everyone already thought, that he is the #1 supermiddle in the world. If Froch or Arthur win, they will gain a lot of US fans. If Taylor wins, it will be his official comeback party. If they lose but put up a good fight, they will stil gain exposure and fans!!!
This is the best ever for the fans!!!! Thank you UFC for the competition, this wouldn't be possible without you!!!!! There are 4 undefeated fighters in this tourney!!!
They should do this with the welterweights too...I bet you anything Mayweather would find a way out of it if it happened.

The Mayweather hatred never goes away. This tournament is nothing more than a marketing tactic to draw some interest the division that has been relatively weak for years. They did the same thing years ago with the Middleweights when Hopkins, Trinidad, William Joppy among others fought one another (Hopkins knocked out Trinidad in the final).
As for Mayweather, why would he be willing to participate in some cheap tournament going against fighers who we all know are far inferior to him to begin with? What does he gain from that?

I'm a HUGE Mayweather fan, I'm just saying...
It wasn't really the same b/c it was only Hopkins, Eastman, Trinidad, and Joppy, and it wasn't set up before hand, this sh*t is solidified...and 2 out of those 3 fights(Hopkins/Tito, Tito/Joppy) were amazing.
In order to be the best, you have to keep proving it. Going against a shot Gatti, Mitchell, then an old a$$ DLH, a Hatton that moved up to fight him, then Marquez who jumped 2 weight divisions right away.....ehhhhhhhh...kind of weak when he could have fought Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, PAUL WILLIAMS, Winky, Clottey...ya dig? Throw in Berto and you have the GREAT EIGHT WELTERWEIGHT tourney, it would be so bad a$$...

Taylor should implement the Hit and Run Tactics. He's a very skilled boxer, he should never go to toe with a guy like Abraham because his stamina is still questionable.
Taylor should use his boxing skills and experience to win by decision.

They are currently discussing a future fight between Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez next year in the 140 lbs division.
If Ricky trains harder, and hires a new trainer next year he is going to beat Marquez because JMM wouldn't beat any elite boxers in the Junior Welterweight and Welterweight Division.
JMM should unify the crown in the Lightweight Division. I rather see him fight Edwin Valero, and Nate Campbell in 2010.

I would love to see all of those matches, but Marquez's clock is ticking, he's like what, 36 now? I don't know if Hatton is going to fight any time soon, he has gained sooooooo much weight..

I agree. He will gain nothing from a tournament like this. That is why he needs to fight Shane or the winner of Pac/Cotto. Problem is I don't think he wants to fight Shane, there could be money problems with Pac and Floyd already turned down Cotto in which Cotto called him a "chicken" and said "he knows he doesn't want to fight me."

You say he has nothing to gain from a tournament like that but you want him to fight 3 of the 7 other fighters I suggested earlier?
The 3 you want Mayweather to fight:
Shane: Cotto beat him. Winky permanently dented his face 2x. Both Cotto and Winky would be in the tourny.
Cotto: Margarito made him say "no mas". Clottey busted him up badly. Both would be in the tourny.
Pac: Smaller than everyone else that would be in the tourny.
The rest of the fighters:
Margarito: Floyd turned down 8 mill to fight him before Floyd was making the super bucks. Crippled Cotto.
Winky: Draw with Jermain Taylor, embarrassed Trinidad & Mosley, DLH ducked him, went up and lost a decision to Bernard Hopkins.
Williams: Everyone is afraid of him, thats why he had to go up to middleweight to get a fight with Pavlik. Beat Winky.
Clottey: He can't be hurt. Lost a close decision to Margarito. Beat Zab and Diego Corrales. Lost a split decision(which many think he won) to Cotto and busted his face open in the process.
Berto: He isn't ready for Floyd, but he shows a lot of promise.
Good video and article.

Any predictions for tomorrow?
Kessler is too strong and technically sound. He's my favorite to win it all, I think he takes tomorrow's match via a late stoppage or unanimous decision.
I have no idea why this tournament isn't getting more hype, I'm sure it would do much better on HBO (who should copy the idea for other weight classes).
I think everyone's still too caught up in the Pac-Cotto fight and now the Pac-Mayweather fight.
Kessler should take it but Ward's speed could pose some problems.

I've been following this closely, nice bump. I can't wait for this fight. Kessler is one of my favorite fighters right now, I'd like to see him lay it to Ward. It should be a good fight. Kessler - 167
Ward - 166.5
Mikkel Kessler is one of the best fighters in the Super Middleweight Division, and He's a more experience boxer than Andre Ward.
Ward is the underdog in this fight, but I am rooting for him cause he's one of the most exciting young boxers today.

Exactly, it comes down to Ward's chin IMO. If he can take the punches, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a UD. He held up well against Miranda. Otherwise, I'd take Kessler with a late TKO.

First time I'm seeing Kessler fight and I'm scratching my head after reading how "great" and how he was Goliath for this tournament.
Sucks that the two cuts on Kessler are due to head clashes, albeit, I don't think it would make a huge difference at this point. All thats left to determine is if King Arthur will have sole possession of first place or if he'll share it with one of these two (Ward is dominating but Kessler can still somehow KO Ward. I'm never going to say a match is over after the Froch-Taylor bout)
Edit: As I pressed enter, the fight has ended. Ward & King Arthur are tied for first place now.

Seriously, I don't know how he's been considered such a dominant champ. I just assumed he was, so I thought he'd take it, but he had absoloutely no answer for Ward's speed.

Kessler let me down, didn't want to fight inside or throw his right. Ward was sloppy as hell in the middle rounds leaving himself wide open but Mikkel did nothing.
Congrats to Andre on winning his first championship. If he hooks up with a Freddie Roach or Nazim Richardson calibre trainer, he could go straight to the top of the P4P list someday. :applause:

I don't see anything real interesting for the next stage besides Kessler vs Froch.
King Arthur vs Andre Dirrell
Kessler vs Carl Froch

I'll definitely be rooting for Kessler against Froch. I hope Froch gets KTFO! Dirrell vs. Arthur should be interesting with Dirrell's speed against Arthur's ridiculous power.

Arthur Abraham is one of the best pressure fighters today. This is gonna be Dirrell's fight plan/strategy against King Arthur.

I'm hoping Dirrell can pull this off. I think his length and speed will give Abraham a lot of trouble. Not to mention that Dirrell is an exceptional counter puncher. This is going to be a nice match-up. Dirrell got robbed against Froch.
Dirrell should try Pac's strategy against Clottey. Clottey's defensive shell is really similar to Abraham's and Abraham doesn't throw too many punches either.
Dirrell should just throw tons of punches to prevent Abraham from getting off and when he does open up, Dirrell can maybe use his speed to counter him.
If you saw the Taylor-Abraham fight, you saw that when Taylor was throwing lot of jabs, Abraham stayed in his shell.

Dirrell just completely exposed Abraham. I knew he would. It was just a stylistic nightmare for Abraham. That dirty punch should disqualify him from the whole tournament. Abraham is a piece of shit that shouldn't even be in a boxing ring. Got beat like a bitch and then acted like a bitch about it.

Lol he is still going to win the tournament, Dirrell was just a mismatch for him and he got way too overconfident.
Dirrell was winning that fight Abraham was doing much better in the latter rounds it's unfortunate the fight had to end that way. I knew Dirrell was going to give Abraham problems styles make fights. And yet if you study all of Dirrell fights the guy has a major problem with his balance maybe he have vertigo or something because he falls or slip in every fight. I think I'm going to stop watching the super six tournament every fight ends in controversy.

You're not giving Dirrell a shot? He just put on a clinic against an undefeated fighter. I'd say he's the favorite right now. The fight against Froch was obviously a hometown gift to Froch, Dirrell clearly won that fight. He has a real shot at winning it all if he recovers well from the dirty punch.
Abraham lost all of my respect tonight. I'm pretty shocked, he completely fell apart tonight because he was losing...talk about pride issues. I couldn't believe that he was as desperate to whine about low blows when they were clearly body shots. Then the intentional dirty punch when Dirrell slipped to the ground was just completely ridiculous. I'm rooting for Abraham to fail for the rest of his career. There's no room in boxing for dirt bags like this guy. I bet it's not fun for him when he doesn't have german refs catering to him.

Didn't see the Dirrell-Abraham fight because I was at the HBO twinbill (Great fights in Guzman-Funeka II and Maidana-Cayo), but that definitely shakes things up...
I've been hearing a lot of rumors about Ward that I hope aren't true, people saying his leg injury isn't legit and that he's having issues with his promoter, thinking of pulling out of the tournament altogether...
Next up in Kessler-Froch...I was thinking Kessler but really feel Froch has the momentum going into this one and that Kessler has slipped a bit, going with Froch

Man, these British commentators are the biggest homers. Of course they all pick Froch to win and then call the American Super 6 boxers good actors after the Dirrell-Abraham fight.
What a joke. Abraham acted like a punching bag until the 12th. This was just like Pac-Clottey.

Good showing from Ward. Froch was just weird tonight. What's next for Ward? Dirrell(his mandatory)? Martinez moves up? Bute? Hopkins/Dawson/Pascal or others at light heavy? I wish Calzaghe was still around. That would be a cool fight.
This tourney has changed the careers of so many fighters. Kessler's aura is gone, Taylor pretty much got his career ended, Ward grew up, Froch made it all the way to the finals, Abraham got exposed, mixed feelings about Dirrell, Greene is done.
