Flash would actually be really easy using motion tweens. Powerbasketball.com used to have some two made just for ball, IDK if that site even still exists

maybe you should have asked James Jones about it, I guess you missed that boat though

seriously, just use Photoshop, make a base layer of a court and draw on it, shouldn't be hard. Or get a flow chart program like Omnigraffe or something

i seen hippos
10-24-2006, 11:15 PM
i don't have photoshop and flash seems confusing. maybe it's just the term "tweener".

kwajo
10-24-2006, 11:17 PM
well I don't know about you, but Tweeners are way hotter than teens. I try to sex one every day before breakfast for good measure

Are you actually a coach or do you just think you've come up with a good set play?

i seen hippos

how do you upload the play to here?

i'll have to get help uploading it tomorrow.

Of course that link doesn't work, it's a hyperlink pointing to your local hard drive. Try uploading it to a free picture hosting site, I wanna see this play.

i tried to upload it through PixPond.com, but it says it can't upload HTML files or something like that.

Put it on filefront, or a similar website so we could download the file.

i can get to the page with this one, but it has red x's. maybe i'll just show a sequence of the plays (images) instead of showing animations. don't know if that will make a difference.

Yeah, post the images. We'll still be able to get a sense for what's happening during the play.

i tried it and it works. only images though. you have to go through the few steps to dl the file though. no big deal.

just so you know, player3 passes the ball before he sets the screen for player1 in sequence #3.

Once you create the play with the playbook program I linked you to backup the play. It will be saved as an ebp file.

Then just upload it through yousendit or something so I can download it and check it out.

This play requires a Brad Miller kind of center, right? Wouldn't it be easier to just let your 2 go to the hoop after the 4 sets that baseline screen?

i seen hippos
10-25-2006, 06:31 PM
do you mean a centre that can pass? as a raptors fan i was using what i think their starting lineup will eventually be.

pg- ford
sg- parker
sf- peterson
pf- bosh
c- bargnani

just so you can get an idea of what i was thinking.

as for the 2/4 screen, it gives more options for the 5. he can pass to a potentially open guard for an 18 footer or give it to the pf. the pf would roll of the screen to the basket.

Ghost_Delay
10-25-2006, 06:43 PM

Sure wasn't thinking about Jerome James lol. Good to know which team would be using the play. European big men do move out to the perimeter a lot more & we know Bargnani has got range. The only way the Raps are going to be succesful is by having a lot of player movement, so that could work.

ya. i hope DA KO king can get this two work with animations though. just looks better.

I used to think KO King and hippo were the same person. Two people with a hippo problem?

Anyway, why are you designing a play? I could give you some of my free flowing plays, but then I'd be like Fonzy in the WaterBoy and you'd be that fat grey coach that steals the book. I don't want that.

But if you are coaching a team, the best plays you can use (at any level) are "Motion" and it's man yvariations, or my personal fav: "Princeton" which I have about 10 modified versions.

We set up slightly different depending on the opposition.

i seen hippos

this play is perfect for a team that likes to shoot and has quick bigs and a quick pg.

i already mentioned the 3 passes the ball before he sets the screen. i'm too lazy to fix it.

Da KO King

Not bad. Especially for a first go round. I'll give my opinions real quick. O's are offense and X's are defenders.

Floor spacing looks like it would be a problem though. I'm guessing the O1 & O5 action to start the play is a pick and roll. O4 being at the foul line clogs the O5's area to work with.

In fact if X4 is quick or the screen action is slow to develope he can actually jump the ball handler. Also the pass from O1 to O3 back to O1 seems like wasted time. Why not just have to screen and re-screen with O5?

Like I said its damn good for a first go round. A few tweaks and it looks like it might actually work on a court.

I came across a really good 4 Out Open Post Motion offense recently. I'll try re-create it through the playbook and post it here. It would work really well because it suits the five players you listed to a tee.

i seen hippos
10-25-2006, 07:42 PM
did you work the motion one or did you look at the stills?

and 3 doesn't pass back to 1. he passes to 5.

thanks for the help and opinions though. really good point on the 4 clogging space.
i also feel that the 3 screening for the 1 is pretty useless and that i'm making the 1 run around too much.

Ghost_Delay

TJ Ford running around a lot will make the opposing team dizzy => Raps ftw.

I ran it with the animation. With some tweaking it looks like a decent set play. Unfortunately the tweaking would need to be done versus live opponents.

I should have that Open post offense I talked about uploaded either tonite or tomorrow morning. It's a total offensive system so it took more time to get done.

Now that I'm looking at it as in depth as I am the Raptors and Phoenix Suns are the only teams that could get away with using this offense.

Almost wish I has Sam Mitchell's phone number. Of course I'd wait until after they playe the Knics a few times. :D

thats probably the longest play i've ever seen, that would take like 15secs to execute and set up and once one person ****s up its over

Da KO King
10-27-2006, 05:45 PM
It's long to run to completion but you have to consider that the first action, the ballscreen 5 sets for 1, might get a high percentage look for either 1 or 5.

thenextgreatbigman
10-27-2006, 05:48 PM
the big man would get robbed in the middle before the 1,2 gets to cut, screen and pop. you can't have the ball in a big mans hands on the line for that long, just let him take one dribble and get inside

Da KO King
10-27-2006, 05:51 PM
I'm unsure about what you are talking about. I'm at work and can't look at the play right this second.

You also have to consider that the play was designed for the Raptors which mean the bigs in the play will likely be Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani.

thenextgreatbigman
10-27-2006, 05:55 PM
my coach tried to make me play the high post last year and it was pretty hard, with all these cutters the big man ends up with 2-3 guys around him, you have like 2 secs with the ball and you either hit the cutter (cutting from wing to wing) or take the ball inside yourself. No way i could stand there and wait for the guys to run circles around the court

bosh might get away with it but he'd probably end up shooting the FT line jumpshot ala dirk instead of passing it

thenextgreatbigman
10-27-2006, 06:15 PM
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9660/basecutjr3.gif

that would work for the raps, bargnani(4) could get the jumpshot or they can hit the cutter(3) for an easy dunk.

i seen hippos
10-27-2006, 06:21 PM
the big definitely has the option of just shooting the ball. if the 1 forces the 5's defender to help out his defender, then there can be an open shot for the 5.

and i don't think the play would take that long. the only players running a lot would be the 1 (ford) and the 4 (bosh). guys that can run all day.

I just seen what you are talking about. That's one of the tweaks that would have to be made because the spacing on the floor makes that last sequence of the play slower to develope.

OK, I'm finally done re-creating that Open Post offense.

http://download.yousendit.com/EA4C5EF716A9E591 It's in the EBP format so you have to view it through the playbook program.

Those of you that haven't downloaded it might want to. Or you could just harrass Hippos until he makes it into a Flash file.

10-27-2006, 09:57 PM
that was well done. inspired me to do one tonight i think. lol

suprised i didn't see any play where the 5 releases to the basket though. you'd think he'd find himself in many situations where he can exploit his defender whether through help D or screens. with the floor so wide open, this should be available.
