Remember when TV shows would shake things up and broadcast an episode that tackles some serious matter? It seems as if those particular episodes stand out more than the rest.
What are some memorable episodes from TV shows that come to mind?
Fresh Prince - When Carlton was popping pills at the prom. It went from being silly and hysterical and then bam! it hits you in the face with something heartbreaking like this.
Different Strokes - When Arnold and his buck-toothed buddy almost get molested by the Maytag Man. Creepy
When Dr Cox loses his kid on Scrubs.

Fresh Prince - Dad abandoned. Isn't this the episode that evolve Will Smith from a one trick pony to a multi-talented actor?
Good Times - James died.
All in The Family - Edith attempted rape, draft dodger episode. All in The Family is one of the best sitcom ever.

now for the real issues... courtesy of seinfeld and larry david.
The Contest... the seinfeld cast tackles *********ion (ie jerkin it), and just how hard it is to refrain. Always master your domain.
The Hamptons... bringing the problem of "shrinkage" to the forefront of America. Women now understand our plights.
The English Patient... further showing everybody how boring that movie really was. And, you don't hire Dominicans to roll crepes. Ever.
The Marine Biologist... don't shoot golf balls into the ocean. Sincerely, whales.
The Implant.... who gives a sh!t if her **** are real. tell yourself this, when the urge to find out arises.
The Junior Mint... always remember your GF's name from the beginning or it will get tricky.
The Switch... first, if you have a chance at a threesome, take it. second, no one in the western world has ever switched his GF for her roommate.
I can go on and on and on.... and those aren't even the half of it....

On Diff'rent Strokes. The episode where Arnold gets high on crack and kills Mr. Drummond with a baseball bat. Classic.

It's not my favorite, but the Home Improvement "Cancer" episode should probably at least receive a mention.

Family Matters "Gun" episode where Laura gets jumped for her jacket and buys a gun to defend herself was my favorite but for all the wrong reasons. It was the cheesiest, funniest, lamest "special" episode ive ever seen

this entered my mind when I read the thread title.
It wasn't the Maytag Man though, it was Gordon Jump, aka Arthur Carleson from WKRP in Cincinnati (awesome show).
Another classic is when Tom Hanks plays Alex P Keaton's uncle (uncle Ned I think) on Family Ties and much to Alex's dismay is caught drinking vanilla extract in the kitchen because he is an alkie.

Or the one when that local gang burned their aunt's diner down and beat the crap out of Eddie.
Remember that episode of the Cosby Show when Denise and younger sister got into a fight over a sweater? The episode must have originally aired around MLK's birthday because they felt the need end the show with the obligatory "I have a dream" speech, and of course they kiss and make up as the rest of the family gaze intently at the TV. :oldlol:

another one that ended like that was when rudy was talking about being the president of the world and making all the bad people stop then she goes to bed and the show fades away with cliff and claire flipping through news channels and every single one is about war and death/murder

Yo, I dig that epizode of 'Boy Meets World' where T-panga and Cor-e feelz like they in love and all that, and CorE wants tpang to stay with him cuz she ran away from home. And the parentz had like this seriouz talk bout how grown up love is like in a whole different place. It was like super lov-e dov-e in a wet eyez way, but dont tell the homies, word.

A very special Hangin' with Mr. Cooper just came on.
The episode when Earvin likes a chick and the chick happens to have a brother who's in a gang. He pulls a gun out on Earvin at the school, gets expelled. I guess he loses his shit, because he gets into it with a rival gang later that night. And that gang does a drive bye at his house, but kills his sister instead.
