Apparently someone flipped out a guess and shot a bunch of people. Having a father-in-law in the army I believe Fort Hood is where they send troops to psychiatric treatment. Can't be sure about that though.

Sorry, not much details were given out. Was just reported like 1 minute before I posted it.

Basically 7 people were shot, 12 wounded, the person shooting on the base was wearing army fatigues. Not sure why it happened yet.

Three shooters being reported now, one in custody so far.

oh the horror
11-05-2009, 04:31 PM
It would be interesting to learn how someone was able to get off shooting and killing 7, injuring 12, without being taken down in a military base sooner than that.

oh the horror

I used to live there when I was a kid and my dad was in the army. It was a big infantry/artillery base back then.

The scary thing for me is that they are saying there is two others in custody, which leads me to believe this isn't just some guy going crazy, and it was more than likely a planned event.

yeah. thats a conspiracy, not just one lone nut job.

however, if they really planned this, they didnt plan it very well.

also, his rank was a major...that takes 10-15 years to reach...

well, its one of the the biggest military installations in the world. I know a good number of people who work/worked on the property. Even have a friend doing research there right now. thankfully she wasnt on base today.

why in the world would you think this way? Its like ann coulter "not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are muslim".

we are going to have a huge amount of military mental health issues with this generation (much like Vietnam).

The % of Muslims with problems within the military have accounted for too many problems. This needs to be addressed. We can't let the same scourge that has afflicted the UK affect the USA.

I just read this...

2 pistols, 200 rounds fired...that's about 10-20 magazine changes...4.5 inch Mil-Spec barrels...a base full of combat-hardened troops...44 people either killed or wounded...and 5 hours later, after having been confirmed DEAD 5 hours ago...the shooter is still alive. Do you smell a big pile of BS? I do.

Is the shooter alive?

He is injured, shot 4 times, but alive as is the civilian security woman who shot him. I have a hard time believing he did this kinda of damage with a couple of handguns. There had to be a rifle or shotgun involved, you would think unless he had people trapped like in Virginia tech.

Hopefully they execute this guy swiftly. Although his cousin says he was a good Muslim and American.

Of course, Islam is a religion of peace

A swift execution sounds good

I kind of doubt it. It takes quite some time to get up to that rank, not even accounting for the time you have to spend in school. All things considered, and I'm not trying to be insensitive, he could have done much worse were that the case.
yeah i agree. i was speculating that before i found out he was a major. i thought he was some grunt. its looking more like he was just nutty and had a grudge against american soldiers. kinda ironic because reports say he was about to be promoted again.

He was not going to be promoted again. The reason he transferred out of Walter Reed after 6 years there and was set to deploy to Iraq was b/c he had received a poor evaluation. And there was an officer on the news saying that he had only received 2 honors in his 10+ years in the military and those were got just for having a pulse during war time as an officer. In fact the commenting officer said his lack of achievements for an officer that that long in the military was "amazing".

Interesting. He shouldn't have even been an O in the first place. That's one thing I've always hated about the military; you can have a degree in basket weaving and they'll hand you the keys to a jet.

Especially a degree in medicine/mental health. The military will promote doctors in short order based just on longevity since their services are so coveted. From what I have heard this guy was a full on psychiatrist at Walter Reed, he was a doctor.

[IMG]PTSD is no joke. the US military needs to take PTSD more seriously.
I couldn't agree more. This is what is affecting our soldiers the most when the come back from deployments, but it looked at the least.

I have a feeling this is more than just PTSD...I have a feeling he had a few screws loose to begin with...most people with PTSD are just very depressed or suicidal, they don't have a random need to take others out with them.

this is why people shouldnt have guns. Ever wonder why there arent mass homicides here in Asia? Not because we dont have psychos, its because its hard to ****ing kill 10 people with a ****ing kitchen knife.
My heart goes out to the families.

Yer man, the army'd do well good without guns.

Please inform us of your master plan to eradicate guns from the planet - it must be a good one :applause: .

FYI without guns you'd likely still be paying tribute to the lord of the manor in the hope he'll protect your weak ass existence.
